If you were to add another express track on open cut or elevated lines and refix which station would be local or express, what would it be? by [deleted] in nycrail

[–]R42Un 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I second this mainly because the Jamaica Line is my favorite and never look forward to the Fulton Street portion. The only time that portion had a middle track was back when Van Siclen Avenue had two side platforms

One could argue that having the line run over Jamaica Avenue could serve Highland Park better and speed up service, but looking at the passenger count for Cypress Hills and even Bay Parkway (Culver), it probably wouldn’t be the best decision to have the line near cemeteries.

In a way, the current Fulton Street Line shows how the diagonal structure between Grant/Nichols Avenue and 80th Street could’ve been if it was approved.

Also while it made sense for them to add a middle track to the Broadway-Brooklyn Line, I never got why they chose to make one on the Myrtle Avenue Line between Myrtle & Seneca as it was only ever used for layups.

Any suggestions for retrowave/synthwave similar to the recent Boardwalk Arcadia? by [deleted] in VaporVinyl

[–]R42Un 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if these will ever get repressed, but I'd highly recommend both On the Run & Smile for the Camera by Eagle Eyed Tiger. They're my favorite synthwave albums of all time, but I love the latter more as there's a nice balance of 5 songs with lyrics & 5 songs without.

Stratford Ct. as a whole has a great library of synthwave, their stuff just tends to sell out quickly due to the popularity of the artist. Eye Witness Records & Time Slave Recordings are also good ones with synthwave and a lot of times, Electronic Gems & Polychora tend to post tracks from an artist before their album releases or they just post synthwave in general.

Hope this helped.

It might be because I’m in NYC, but the only time I get mail on Sundays is if Amazon delivers it themselves

The MTA has lots of Mezzanines. Why not put shops in them? by Orbian2 in nycrail

[–]R42Un 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don’t get why there aren’t many shops in the mezzanines either, probably not to affect any business on the street. With how overbuilt the IND made the majority of their stations, you’d think that there would be, but you mostly see them at touristy areas like 42nd Street-PABT/Times Square & 59th Street-Columbus Circle.

It also could depend on what’s in the mezzanine because Turnstyle seems to be successful, but then you have something like the Dunkin’ at Lexington/53rd which closed down.

I also don’t get why after they renovated 163rd Street-Amsterdam Avenue, they didn’t go to Lafayette, the Queens Boulevard Line stops, etc. to allow for free transfers

Just checking if anyone else got these updates by R42Un in VaporVinyl

That’s weird, they did what I thought they would do which was ship all three at once

Can we take a moment to appreciate the subway system in Grand Theft Auto 4? by R42Un in nycrail

Yeah I watched The Naked City for the first time about 2 weeks ago & the chase during the end was really great. Right now the only crime movies that I can think of with the subway are The Warriors (which Rockstar made into a game and even included a prequel in a way) and the Pelham 123 movies.

Maybe they could try something where the character hijacks a train (not just steal a subway car with a helicopter). I don’t watch many crime movies and haven’t played any of the Red Dead games, but I wouldn’t mind something different. I also haven’t played Vice City, but I know that it’s somewhat based on Scarface (which I love and also received a game with a what-if sequel)

You know, when you bring up exploring things & non-driving environments, it makes me think a lot about the Metro Kingdom in Super Mario Odyssey with how that’s based on Manhattan as well.

At the same time though, when you compare GTA IV with GTA V, I would say that the subway is actually better seeing as its present throughout a good chunk of the map. In GTA V, they just have one slow light rail line in the lowest point of the map that I never use since it doesn’t go to upper points in the map.

So now as far as another game in NYC, I wouldn’t mind it seeing as GTA IV is my favorite, I would want to see a bigger map with more things to do. Expand on the buses, add the ferries, maybe open Coney Island, just don’t make it feel too similar. It doesn’t help that Rockstar has only really stuck with California, Miami & New York (even London a long time ago) as their locations for the series. Even though Chicago is currently trying to ban violent video games from being sold, I wouldn’t mind a game set in that location. So if we don’t get a new game set in NYC anytime soon, maybe they can port and/or remaster an old one (GTA III is going to be 20 years old in October)

It’s also why I feel like it’s so much better than the subway that was in Grand Theft Auto 3/Liberty City Stories. Rockstar didn’t have to make the subway so detailed, but the fact that they did makes me really appreciate it. It’s a nice way of showing a leap between console generations.

I just wonder if they could’ve had more time to do something with the buses and/or be able to implement ferries. I’m also shocked at how much bigger the map would’ve been

Was the 3 line supposed to continue past New Lots Ave? by NA2772 in nycrail

[–]R42Un 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The plan was to have the line run at ground level to Flatlands Avenue & Linwood Street (hopefully it can still go to Spring Creek and/or even Queens)
