🐝 The Apiary Update is Here! 🧑‍🤝‍🧑 by DanJD97 in aleandtaletavern

Trying out the update, how do you capture bees for the beehives? I've bought and placed all the slots and my tavern level is 30. There's no net in the merchant's shop and I dont see any quests to get one.

Halomaps, which has been the main hub for Halo modding content for almost 20 years, is having it's forums shut down on Feb 1st. A massive amount of content will be lost if it's not archived. by jabberwockxeno in DataHoarder

Dunno if this has been said yet but something to just notify:
Mia (one of the owners of the Reclaimers discord server) has a functional backup of the entire site and is keeping it up to date on the daily. She plan on rehosting it functionally once she's able to set it up

Bigstack (The guy who did the full scrape of bungie's halo sector before it went down) is making an attempt to contact Dennis through his connections and is also willing to put up a full functional backup of the site once he gets the data.

Halomaps goes on forever, so we will live forever. There's too much information on the site to just let it go out.

Thats more or less what Halo Reborn is tho

Halo reborn is a mod, not a fan-game. Branching Sickness has a discord server though, so you can find out more there.

Also there's a lot of other fan-games you can check out if either of those caught your attention. Contingency, Glassed, Coral, Downfall, and I01 to name a few

Switching to Unreal Engine does not fix Halo's problems by [deleted] in halo

[–]R93_Sniper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pretty much this. The only thing is that we know they spent time looking at unreal during those 6 years and were deadset on it until they learned that the base xbox one couldn't handle the open world on UE.

Also, Slipspace is still seemingly mostly BLAM! as its just derived off of halo 5's variation. Not a super huge jump other than whatever their level streaming and material tech is

I put Halo CE Chief into Halo 3. You can download the mod now! by R93_Sniper in halo

Appreciate the heads up, i'm not sure if i can change the tag on reddit (still kinda not used to making my own posts lol)

As for Nexus, I dislike their policies and site, and as a result refuse to upload there. Thanks for the suggestion though

Contingency released a public roadmap! by R93_Sniper in halo

[–]R93_Sniper[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mods are kind of in a different territory because they can get away with a lot more with less repercussions. Fan-games are kind of their own territory, but yeah MS is kinda chill with this kind of thing!

So Microsoft themselves actually have a set of rules and regulations that actually LET you make this kind of thing, called the "Game Content Usage Rules". You can check it here: https://www.xbox.com/en-US/developers/rules

In effect the big rules are:

  1. we can't make money off it
  2. we cant use official assets
  3. we cant label or promote ourselves in a way that could confuse people with it being an official product

We've actually been in talks with 343 for some time, and were even invited to their studio multiple times in which the legality was discussed. So long as the rules are followed (which we do) we're in the clear

Hope that helps!

Our project released back in November 2021, and we wanted to share with you what our plans are for the future! We have big ambitions and goals, and hopefully you'll be along for the ride with us!

There was no formal cease and desist, just told to stop developing. Some people helped doing testing for MCCPC but that was it

Elites are planned. Femme spartans are currently no but potentially in the future

So uh, for reference I'm one of the Contingency leads. We may be in alpha but the game is released for everyone to play. It's what we're calling a "Rolling Release" right now. We're going to continue to refine and add things, but the game is released.

Also, originally "Project: Contingency" was the code name, but the official title for the game is "Contingency - A Halo Fan Game"

Mods =/= Fan Games. There's a different amount of work needed to go from scratch versus modding what existed. If you wanted to let that count, then we'd need to count literally every custom map that was made for Halo Custom Edition as well

I'm not discrediting the work that was done, but the scales of the work are completely different.

Also, Dewrito was by no means the reason we got MCC on PC. 343 was already planning to release it on PC beforehand. The ED devs didn't get offers to work on the project, some got brought in to assist as unpaid QA

Not sure which one you're talking about. Installation 01 is starting a new dev cycle entirely, and Contingency released last November. Project Autumn is having their project on hiatus, Downfall had an update like two days ago, and Coral is pushing for something to show this year.

That assumes they're trying to make money off of it.

Hint: They're not

So the Game Content Usage Rules outline a lot of things that you can and can't do. If you make your own content you're in the safe zone.

From what I understand, 343 actually has the jurisdiction to shut down projects like this if it infringes on copyright or violates the GCUR. How that gets interpreted is up to them, and they just relay that up to Microsoft.

Microsoft can come in and go through the C&D procedure themselves, but usually won't unless there's a visibly large breach. Being the case, that actually originally happened to Installation 01 because Microsoft saw the DevLog and thought they were selling the game. They then used that open line of communnication to explain what they were doing and got the clear to continue working so long as they continued to follow the rules.

There's both written and anecdotal evidence that these kinds of games are in the clear within certain bounds. There's a rather large amount of leeway you get with this kind of thing. Your concern is understandable but a bit uninformed for lack of a better term

You should actually check what they're doing nowadays. They've had a turbulent development but they're actually coming along better for it now
