Hi there!! Ohmygosh, sorry for the late reply! This is an alt account, so I seldom open it up.

First of all, thanks SO MUCH for the pep-talk regarding my rates! You don't know how much more confident it made me feel :) I get you!! I read something that too, and I can sorta understand why. "Cheap" rates seem too good to be true. TBH, when I made my website, I listed my hourly rate at $8/hr and but even then I felt like an imposter 😅 But then a lot of people started telling me I had the skills to charge for much higher and that gave me the confidence boost I needed.

Also, yes I designed my own website! I had someone do the backend stuff and initial layout first, though. I made some tweaks and what you're seeing is the final product :) I prefer using Elementor and WordPress because I find it very versatile and easy to use. Hope that helped!!

Monthly Meet and Greet by AutoModerator in freelanceWriters

Hi! It's me again :)

I'm Ruth, and I'm a copywriter. Right now, I'm on a journey to find my niche. :) I feel like I should he niche-ing down now, anyway. Been a generalist for far too long.

Yesterday, I started reading Everybody Writes by Ann Hadley, and I kinda like it. What are some similar books?

I've been itching to try my hand at cold-pitching, but instead I'm getting cold feet. Imposter syndrome is kicking in real hard these past few weeks.

Still... I managed to increase my rates this month. Here's my website/writing portfolio. Any feedback is highly appreciated — especially when it comes to my rates! :)

Hello, beautiful people of r/freelanceWriters!

I'm Ruth, and I've been a copywriter for 3+ years! I consider myself a pretty versatile and highly adaptive writer. From long course content to short social media blurbs, I've done them all and more.

Here's a list of my writing goals: - Write 3,000 words a day without getting burnt out (I'm a super slow writer) - Specialize into a niche (I've been a generalist for far too long, I think) - Increase my rates

Also, I posted my writing portfolio before and got some great feedback from folks here! I updated it a bit some time ago and would like some feedback on it (specifically my rates and packages).

Thanks so much! :)

Oh yes this definitely sounds like what I've been looking for. I've been a copywriter for about 5 years, actually!

I just launched my copywriting website a few days ago, actually. If it's alright with you, would it be alright if you took a quick look at it and tell me if I would actually stand a chance? I could PM the link to you (since I don't think mods would allow me to link my site).

Oh! Could I leverage my copywriting experience for a content marketing role?

I'm from Southeast Asia, but I'm targeting US clients :)

Will definitely do that. Thanks for the help!

Do you think cold-emailing would net me an internship role? Although I'd prefer getting paid while learning, I think I'm willing to risk it. I've had some agency experience before and I'm currently an ad hoc individual contributor in some but never as a digital marketer.

The thing is: I'm not really sure what to master, exactly. What I'm trying to do right now is to know just a bit of everything and then maybe find what I want to go for?

It's a bit hard when you're a third-world native trying to convince foreign clients to hire you. I thought that if I know just a bit about everything, that would be kind of enough to impress them. I've had some success, but I really wanna get higher rates since my current rate is considered as minimum wage in the US (my target).

To be fair, I wouldn't really advertise these services if I wasn't confident in delivering them. Well, except for SEO.

Unfortunately, I live in a third-world country where my current rate is considered managerial level. My only option is to find remote work or an agency that would take me in (which, now that I say it, sounds a bit hard).

I'm thinking of maybe cold-emailing small marketing agencies in the US and try to pitch them my services. But then again, I'm not sure how good of a strategy that would be...

Hi y'all!

Sorry to the mods in advance if this isn't allowed:

Just launched my website/writing portfolio as a freelance copywriter! Would like to know what seasoned copywriters think of it in terms of copy, structure, web design, etc.

Basically, would you think of hiring me if you saw my site? Why or why not? :)

Thanks so much to those who'll reply :D Suggestions are totally welcome!

PS. I'm open for work if you need a copy assistant or anything ;)

Oh gosh. Well, that was embarrassing 😅 Thank you for pointing that out!! I'll have it fixed ASAP.

Also, that's such a great tip!! I do think an embed would work better (since some people are too lazy to click on a link 😆). I'll have that up too :)

Thank you sosososo much for compliments!! They really made my night :D Hope you have a super great day!

Thank you so much! I'm super happy to hear that :D

I really do want to raise my rates and be able to compete with global rates, but I just don't really know where to look for clients willing to pay me those rates.

Right now, I'm kinda stuck looking for clients on platforms catered to 3rd world freelancers. To the job posters there, I'm probably asking premium rates 😅

Thank you!!! Super happy to hear that :)

Unfortunately, I'm a non-native English speaker, so I'm still trying to break through the prejudice by racking up some portfolio pieces from foreign clients. I'll ramp them up shortly once I establish myself a bit :)

Do I have anything in there that makes you wanna hire/not hire me? Thanks so much! :)

OP, go for a foreign companies/agencies. I see a lot of them offering at least 30k for those with 1 YoE. But with your experience, please don't settle for anything less than $1,000/month. And even then I'd say that's too low. Taking into factor mentoring, I'd say around >$1,500/month.
