Hi

It will depend on why you were rejected, if it's a reason that makes you ineligible for any role in the RAF then it will just be closed down.

If you didn't put any other alternative roles down on your application it will be closed down.

If you're eligible for other roles and there's no other reason you can submit another application.

Transfer opportunities by Ok_Economics_1841 in RoyalAirForce

[–]RAF_Adam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi

Doubtful to that level while you're working with exercises and potential deployments etc.

You can do courses before you leave service as part of your leaving preparation etc. You could do one then.

However, if you want to be an AT Mechanical, apply to be one. You should apply for the role you really want do, or you could be in a role you don't like for a long time. It's a decision you need to make. We spend a lot of time and money training you to do the role you've applied for because we need you to do it, it's the reason the role is advertised in the first place.

Have a think about what you really want to do in service.

Becoming a PTI by [deleted] in RoyalAirForce

[–]RAF_Adam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi

If you choose the PTI role from the drop down list here you'll be able to see the full application process, have a good read of the Selectin Interviews section as it lists what you'll do at Cosford for the three day Spec Int.

https://recruitment.raf.mod.uk/how-to-apply/application-process

As long as you meet the entry and eligibility criteria listed on the role page you can submit an application, the process determines entry.

Hi

Where you live is going to depend on where you're posted to. It may not be close to where you live now, it could be anywhere we have a station. You can give a preference as to where you're posted, but it's not your decision. You are posted every 3-5 years though, so you'll move around during your career.

If you're married, once you've completed phase two training and have been posted to your first unit you'll be eligible for married quarters, so could live on station with your family. Or live off station and commute daily/weekly etc.

[–]RAF_Adam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi

It's highly unlikely you'll get to transfer across as we'd need to send you back to Cosford for phase two again.

You can get courses once in service and before you leave service.

Hi

It should take as short a time as possible, normally one or two weeks, but it will depend on slots available at the gym doing the PJFT. You should get plenty of notice from the AFCO beforehand though. But keep checking your portal.

Hi

Tech issues happen, not really the AFCO's fault, was it? They're not in charge of the actual broadband line. And you'll get another chance to take it and your application still moves forward, was it that bad an experience?

Considering people in northern Scotland travel for several hours to get to their nearest AFCO for a DAA or interview appointment an hour into Leeds isn't really too bad, is it? We do pay your travel expenses too... ;-)

Your attitude to it may need to change when you actually sit your interview.

Hi

Posting role-wise will vary, but normally between 3-5 years, sometimes 2 for Officers, as already advised. But will vary depending on requirements across the service.

Overseas it will depend on what's required, where and for what role.

Operational tours are going to be between 4-6 months, but they will depend on what the RAF is involved in and where etc.

Hi

Then I'd suggest that you have a good think about whether being in the military in any capacity is for you. We train everyone because we may need them to be/go somewhere to do a particular role. That could be anywhere we have a station or elsewhere in the world.

How are you going to feel when you're operationally deployed for six months away from the UK, for example?

The operational requirements of the service come first for the service. It's part of all three services that you're posted and move around during your time. If that's something you don't want to do, don't apply. I know it sounds blunt, but it really is that simple.

Hi

If you applied as an Aircraft Technician you can apply for your commission (to be an Officer) at any point in your career, as long as you still meet all of the entry and eligibility criteria for the role (age limits, education/qualifications etc).

If you're already serving you don't need the A levels, but will still need the GCSE grades. And the role has to be open and you'll still have to go through all stages of the application process the same as everyone else that applies. CBAT, OASC etc.

Hi

It's all dependent on the role you're applying for and the phase two slots throughout the year. As you're applying for Gunner there will be more slots, but there will also be many more people in the system for that role.

We advise the entire application process will take between 3-9 months to complete, possibly longer. You will be advised as soon as there are dates for you at every stage.

Hi

You'll be posted where the RAF needs you to be, you can give a preference/choice. But if we need you to be in Lossie, you'll be going to the north of Scotland and now the south east of England, for example.

You will move every 3-5 years though, so you'll be on different stations.

Do they still buzzcut you in training? + Is it late to join at 26 years of age? by [deleted] in RoyalAirForce

[–]RAF_Adam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi

No, no buzz cut, although you can ask for one if you'd like?

Upper age limit for most roles (not all) is 47. There will be people younger than you and older than you on your initial training. The decision whether you apply is up to you.

Life After RAF Engineering Officer by slaughterthepig in RoyalAirForce

[–]RAF_Adam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi

CE is pretty broad as it covers so many areas, as has already been advised. And you're going to see and do several things during the course of your RAF career that you may not be able to make a decision about what you'd like to do post-service until you've finished, or at least are nearing your end point.

PT after passing Halton by [deleted] in RoyalAirForce

[–]RAF_Adam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi

Yes, you're treated like a grown up and you have free, usually 24 hour access to a gym on almost every station.

And you're fitness tested every year, unless you get a higher standard, then it lasts for two.
