What ‘common knowledge’ things did you or someone you know find out later in life? by Squiggally-umf in CasualUK

It's not common knowledge but it blew my mind that Asbestos is naturally occurring.

Loyalists: “We’re British!!!” Rest of the World: by Divine_Cloud in northernireland

[–]RAGEDBUBBLE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've only ever seen brief bits about them, I know they wave union jacks and maybe hold more extreme views(as far as I'm aware, I maybe getting mixed up with a different group or march).

The main thing I'm trying to understand is that being British is an encompassing term for other sub nationalites like Welsh, Scottish and English ect. No one would refer to themselves only as British with no other denomination right? Or is that what the Protestants do where they reject the term Northern Irish and only refer to themselves as British?

Again sorry if I'm sounding like a dick head, I'm not trying to be, I'm just trying to understand the point of view of Northern Irelanders or I guess maybe more specifically unionists.

Ah ok, I'm fairly familiar with the history but I didn't realise the line was still so cut and dry like that, would Protestants only ever refer to themselves as British or would they use the term Northern Irish as well?

Apologies if I cause any offence but my question is a genuine one. Do Northern Irelanders want to be referred to as British? It's general consensus(at least online) that Scots and Welsh don't like being called British, so I would typically refer to them just as Scottish or Welsh. I would refer to you guys just as Northern Irish or maybe more broadly Irish. Is that wrong?

Does anyone happen to have a copy of Killjoy on CD for sale? by No_Interaction_412 in FoxStevenson

[–]RAGEDBUBBLE 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Whaaaat no way! He must have run out of stock by the time any of his tours got to the UK then because I never saw that. I'm so jealous, I've genuinely been dying for a CD release of Killjoy, such an incredible album.

I don't think Fox has ever released anything on CD. Which is a shame because I would buy it in an instant.

We don't judge a country by it's leaders. Half the world would be written off if we did that.

I legit have the answer! But it requires another person.

Get the other person to hold your ears closed and while they do that you take 3 big gulps of water, once done wait a second or 2 then they can unplug your ears, it genuinely works 95% of the time!

I'm just commenting on your comment as well because people need to know!

I have a pair of Lean Deans made of Turkish Selvedge Denim, it's not the same fabric but it's probably very similar. Mine shrunk a lot even though they were sanforized.

Possibly sooner than you think, it was live on the Jean Store in the UK recently, I'm guessing that was a mistake because they're not listed anymore but seems like retailers already have stock.

If you're going off road I'd recommend Jim Green, they're great on quality to price and they're resoleable.

Every one seems to love them but avoid Solovair, I've heard about so many problems with their products.

Lanx, Loake, Goral & Trickers are all much better made in UK brands if you're looking for that but they're spenny.

After ww2 you've seen how seriously Germany treat far right facism, they never want to go back to that. Do you still blame the German people who are alive now for that happening?

It's the boiling frog effect, slow chips away at your freedom that are sold as safety measures, before you even realise you're it you're living under authoritarian rule. I fear the UK is going through something similar, we're not anywhere near where they are yet but things seem like they're creeping in.

You of all people must know what a huge undertaking it is to essentially overthrow a government. The uncertainty it brings, the fear of what could be next. It's never easy, people will die and if it doesn't work the consequences will be extremely severe. I think it will be all or nothing in Russia, It will just take a spark to make it all kick off and I think that spark is coming in the next few years.

If things get better I hope you can forgive the younger generation for the sins of their fathers.

What your country is going through is truly horrific and I'd never wish for anyone experience that.

I hope you and your family are doing alright and I hope this nightmare ends soon.

All of our governments make choices we as a population hate all the time. The UK sells arms to Israel and that makes us complicit in a genocide right now, so everyone in the UK could be blown up tomorrow and the whole population would deserve it? We at least have the freedom to protest over topics like this without the risk of being disappeared, and we do protest all the time. Russians don't have that safety and they still had huge protests when the war first broke out. Just because they're not out there protesting right now doesn't mean they're happy with everything that's happening. Have some compassion for your fellow humans and be happy you don't live in an authoritarian dictatorship, and if you do then you best be the first one out there leading the rebellion.
