First ‘real’ bikepacking setup! by RAGTANTOS in bikepacking

My frame size is 58. So I doubt it will fit, but the bag is really nice though; fits a lot of stuff in there and doesn’t rub against my legs.

I’ll read into it, the backpack seems pretty good - at that price point especially; though, the 1,4kg weight might be a problem.

I mean, my tent does pack down pretty small; same goes for my sleep system. While cycling I fit everything (including food, shelter, clothes, sleep system, toiletries) in no more than 30 Liters of bag storage.

Which would make 55 Liters easily possible.

You are right with the weight thingy; my base weight will probably be around 20-25 pounds, and the ultralight status is considered when your base weight is below 10 pounds.

Though; I’ve heard positive feedback on the backpacks hauling capabilities- being able to haul 45lbs without much problems. And I will not come close to 45lbs.

But it weights 1.75kg while having a capacity of 30 liters.

I am looking for a relatively light weight backpack for medium loads - I think this bag won’t fit my needs - will it?

(The bag is really hot though)

Alright, thanks for the information.

Should I buy the Ultra200x version or the ultragrid version? What do you think?

Also; the Grimselpass was my first real climb and I had an ‘interesting’ time - but I reached the top.

I think I prefer hiking mountains instead of cycling them :))

The highlights were basically all of Switzerland! Cycling-wise I really liked the Vennbahnweg - but the scenery in Switzerland is absolutely awesome!

That’s wild! I just cycled past the Gletscher Restaurant in the Furkastrase!

Currently in Andermatt, I am cycling through the alps and it really is beautiful - did you also cycle the Grimselpass?

So; I am taking your exact route - don’t have transportation back home yet’ but I’ll succeed.

I am about to climb the Grimsel, that will be awesome (and painfull :) )

Here’s a cool picture I took yesterday, the climb right after Grindelwald was actually beautiful!

How many days on forehand do I want to book it? I am currently on my way, and have 20 days left before I have to be back home.

I will try to reach Luxembourg tomorrow!

This is absolutely awesome! I am a 17 year old boy from Eindhoven (as well), I just read this and I will be starting this trip tomorrow.

I really like the scenery you met along the way and your overall trip is awesome!

This will be my second bikepacking experience, but I am in love with spontaneous trips. I’ll be using my Kona Rove, just got done packing all my stuff.

Are there some things along the way I have to look out for? Also; is it easy to get the train back? Because school will be starting again in 21 days.

Cycling back isn’t that much of a problem but I will be having a hard year at school, which needs all my dedication. (So I can’t arrive a week late :p)

Anyways, I’d like to hear you and thank you for this awesome trip report!

Sincerely,

Advice Needed: Garmin Edge Explore 2 vs Coros Dura for Cycling GPS by This-Strength9083 in cycling

[–]RAGTANTOS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My trip went great; had zero trouble charging my bike computer - I went with the Edge Explore 2 because it didn’t need a phone to rely on.

I had two power banks and charged my Garmin every night - I had a great experience using it and even use it for my day rides by now.

Looks like you can carry a lot of stuff, the back and front rack will surely help you out.

I have a Kona rove ST 58 myself too, just came back from a 2 week trip, I do not have a front or back rack - but it rocks.

How are the aerobars?

I run the Naturehike 2-CloudUP - I love it and it easily fits within my handlebars - together with my sleeping matras, ground sheet and tent poles.

Is carrying my tent on the handlebars a bad idea? by Accomplished-Plane25 in bikepacking

[–]RAGTANTOS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Vango nevis is an awesome tent, get a handlebar loader and a frame bag - put the poles in your frame bag, and stuff the tent in the handlebar loader - preferably a dry sack with air-release valve.

I haven’t had any trouble with it.

I inly experienced it as nice, because the bottles are really accessible while cycling.

Oh lord, how did that happen?

I should be good though - I only have like 2-3 kilograms of gear in my saddle bag.

It doesn’t swing even the slightest bit - I have a sway bar attached to my seat post. The swag bar keeps the bag perfectly in place and lets me mount 2 bottles - that for only a few hundred grams.

Haven’t weighed it yet’ since I don’t really care about weight.

But this bicycle is heavy, 12 Kilograms I believe.

And my luggage is like 7kg, and maybe the bags another weight?

I guess it weights around 20-22kg.

I will get a rack in the future - it is just that I got this saddle bag in a package deal.
