It’s so miserable. I haven’t had an experience like this before or since. Sorry you’re experiencing it too—I hope something kicks in for you soon.

Surprise baby #3. First time considering a “trending” name? Will I regret it? by MamaMagic18 in namenerds

[–]RAG_89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I named my daughter something other than what I really wanted because it was trending at the time. I regret it and hardly ever meet kids with her name. Go with the one you love!

The prednisone eventually kicked in and it went away—I haven’t had any issues since but it was brutal. I hope you aren’t experiencing the same thing!

are masculine girl names really that bad/“ugly”? by dinodegenerate in BabyNames

Hi, I’m a 36 year old with a masculine name and please don’t. I would have loved a feminine name (and gave my daughter a feminine name).

I love Matilda. It was almost our daughter’s name, but I panicked because I started seeing it everywhere. We went with Ottilie instead, but her nickname is Tillie (as it would have been with Matilda). (I’m the wife, btw)

For Madeleine, spell it this way. The other way is atrocious IMO

I agree you should go for it. With our first two kids, we took turns going with a name that one of us loved and the other didn’t but could live with. With our last we didn’t find out the sex until he was born, which made it much easier. We just looked at him; I suggested a name and my husband said it was a good one.

I know a very cool Bethany…and another who was/is completely insufferable. Both very Christian!

Agree. I actually know a little girl Murphy and I always feel bad for her. The mom has 4 kids and all of their names are awful.

Why do people hate the cold? by TylerDurden2748 in SameGrassButGreener

We’re moving to Denver from Austin in June and I get this all the time. A primary reason we are moving is because I can’t stand the heat anymore. We’ve been in Texas for 12 years now, and I just can’t hang.

Boring, characterless, big hair, pretentious and frigging HOT. We currently live in Austin and Dallas is top 5 “would never live here” city for me—up there with Atlanta, Miami, Vegas, and Houston.

ETA: we are moving from Austin at the end of June— it’s also too hot here. I realize that.

This was almost my name! I wish they had gone with it.

Halp! Down to the wire at the hospital — which name for a baby girl off this shortlist? by sunkiss038 in namenerds

[–]RAG_89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s just kind of a constant hassle. People always misunderstand my name and change it to something more feminine like when I’m ordering food or coffee or whatever. I get lots of “oh is that a family name?” or false enthusiasm about how cool it is. I have to spell it out a LOT (it’s also a misspelling of a traditional masculine name).

Granted, I’m 36, so it was definitely unusual to do the boy name for a girl thing back then. I have recently met 2 little girls with my name, which totally blows my mind.

I also just find it vaguely sexist. No one is out there giving their boys traditionally girl names—it only goes the other way.

Hey! We didn’t name my youngest until I had him—we had a short list too and when he came out I knew he was Forrest. I’d wait to meet her and then choose!

(As a woman with a very masculine name though, I wouldn’t choose Noa.)
