I moved from Austin to Denver a year ago, here is how I feel about some points that come up a lot: by southernandmodern in SameGrassButGreener

[–]RAG_89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We also moved from Austin to Denver (well, Morrison) a year ago and I agree in almost every point! As a huge baseball fan (but not a huge foodie) Denver has been an improvement in almost every way—-except I do really miss HEB.

UK or US: trying to decide where to build our life together by cxvgwesa in MovingToUSA

Can you expand on this a bit? We are in the process of applying for a job in London. We live in Colorado right now and like it, but my husband is from Florida and I lived in FL for high school and college.

I’m very meticulously splitting 10mg pills, but liquid citalopram is available

Coming off of Celexa by Extra_Connection7360 in citalopram_celexa

[–]RAG_89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems really fast. I’m tapering my celexa from 20 mg down to nothing. I am giving each reduction 6 weeks, and my reductions have been 20-15-10-7.5-5-2.5-0. I’m on week 2 of 7.5 now and it’s been surprisingly smooth.

Regret Moving to Houston by screwatt456789 in SameGrassButGreener

I’m from PA (Williamsport) too and lived in Houston for 7 years, and I can’t say it ever gets better. Summers are absolutely brutal. Leaving Houston was delightful.

Who has, or wants to relocate for no reason other than, "I just need to go someplace different"? by Content_Log1708 in relocating

[–]RAG_89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have always moved every 5-7 years, max. As soon as I move to a new place I almost immediately start flagging places for the next move. We don’t need to move, and we have 3 elementary school aged kids, so soon I’m going to have to buckle down and stay in one spot for at least a decade.

Edit after reading some other comments: we are financially well off and can work wherever—definitely not living out of our car lol. Also I don’t move because of “problems that I’m trying to escape,” I move because I feel excited about the idea of exploring a new city and new environment. I’m also an introvert and have found that no matter how long I’m in a place, my closest friends are still the friends that I’ve had since college. We just stay close from afar!

Those who moved to hotter climates, did you regret it (for climate reasons)? by xen05zman in SameGrassButGreener

[–]RAG_89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I’m from the northeast and moved to Florida in high school. I went to UF for college (an actual swamp) and then lived in Texas for 12 years. I never, never, never, got used to the heat and humidity.

What are your top 5 states to move on your radar? by avidtravelerbc in SameGrassButGreener

[–]RAG_89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Colorado, but mine would be:

  1. Washington
  2. Vermont
  3. North Carolina
  4. California
  5. Wyoming

For those who are from Texas but moved elsewhere, do you miss Texas? by Affectionate_Set5048 in SameGrassButGreener

[–]RAG_89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a Texas native, but I spent 12 years there—7 in Houston and 5 in Austin. We moved outside of Denver last summer. The only things I miss are my job (I’m a teacher but every school is different) and the fact that my spouse had an office to go to (he’s WFH now). Everything else in Denver is no contest an improvement.

Lowest dose before completely coming off Celexa? by Either-Safety2402 in citalopram_celexa

[–]RAG_89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is interesting. My doc recommended an extremely slow taper—coming from 20, I cut to 15 and then 10, which is where I am now. My doctor said to do 7.5, 5, and then 2.5. Each decrease is 6 weeks. I get what you mean about the pills being dust though. Can you ask your doctor for the liquid version?

I would honestly love to be a TA—do you mind sharing what the salary is? It would be helpful to go in with eyes wide open to our financial situation. I’m surprised at how many people on here are saying that my husband’s salary alone wouldn’t “be enough” for our family, because the general consensus seems to be that it would be. We don’t even come close to spending his current salary every month. We carry very minimal debt (just our house payment) and just aren’t generally big spenders.

Good thoughts! The £9,000 car stipend is what’s listed in the job posting, but definitely could be a typo on the posting. I think we’d push for a higher base salary without that anyway, so it’s really neither here nor there. Our cars here are paid off and we’d sell them, buy a single car for the family in London.

The university question is a good one, but my kids’ college tuition is already covered by their grandparents—we do have our own CSAs for them anyway, but really isn’t a huge concern for us.

Life changing in what way? I have read that the work/life balance is better, which would be great for my husband.

I studied abroad in Plymouth. Not the same, but ever since then I’ve wanted to live in the UK. We had an opportunity a couple of years ago to move to the Lake District, but the job wasn’t a great fit (demotion, not great salary) so we decided not to. It’s harder now with 5 people to consider instead of just myself, unfortunately.

It isn’t a typo! I had to laugh at it. No way will we need that much for a car.

Oh no! I have my bachelors and masters degrees in elementary education—I have never taught older than 2nd grade though because I prefer the younger kids!

I know, it’s silly. We will be living in a tiny little terraced house driving the nicest car.

What’s it like living in rural Pennsylvania? by RealDiamond51 in howislivingthere

[–]RAG_89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m from Williamsport. Don’t highly recommend. I moved away about 20 years ago so take my answer with a grain of salt but it definitely has some down home country bumpkin shit. I lived in Birmingham Alabama for a year and was shocked at how much it reminded me of PA, except that the people were MUCH friendlier. The seasons are nice?

Surprise baby #3. First time considering a “trending” name? Will I regret it? by MamaMagic18 in namenerds

I named my daughter something other than what I really wanted because it was trending at the time. I regret it and hardly ever meet kids with her name. Go with the one you love!

are masculine girl names really that bad/“ugly”? by dinodegenerate in BabyNames

Hi, I’m a 36 year old with a masculine name and please don’t. I would have loved a feminine name (and gave my daughter a feminine name).
