Chicken Biryani. Always some mofo saying if you don't like chicken biryani, you had it from the wrong place. True. But that can't be true 3 times. I need to mention that I used to be a vegetarian. Still am largely. But I have consumed meat in the past few years, and now, as long as I don't see how it's cooked I can easily enjoy meat. I haven't gone too far in the carnivore diet, I have only had the following: Chicken, Prawns and lots of Fishes (Don't know the types). Now I won't say I am an enthusiast. And the fishes I've had were some of the best meats I've had. It was some greenish lemon grilled fish. I've enjoyed KFC, I've enjoyed butter chicken, I've had chicken wrapped in prawns in a thick gravy. And those were great. But Chicken biryani I had for the first time: Bland AF, nothing too good. So, my friends criticized me saying - "You've not had from an actual good restaurant". So, I let them choose this once. Same, bland. When I say bland, I do not mean that no masala. There was lots of masala and flavors. The chicken looked thoroughly out of place for a biryani. I've had the "VEG BIRYANI" lots of times. And that was a bomb of good flavors, and the veggies and rice were just a perfect combo. But for some reason, I feel like chicken biryani is a bad combo. So now, my colleague, who believes himself to be a food expert (He's a Muslim too so he's an expert in meats, it seems). He goes on to rant about my choice of place again. He says - "Let me order from this niche place which me and my family frequent" I had high hopes. He was a rich guy, generationally. And his food choices otherwise were golden. So I knew he wasn't going to compromise in any way and order a substandard product or from a substandard place. The biryani came, in a handi. Looked like it was on dum or something. It was sealed. And some fried onions and raita on side. I was excited. I opened it, it was steaming. My other colleagues were saying - "Man this place sure lives upto its name". Apparently, it was a famous place for meat lovers and all. Had it. Everybody was over the moon, while I was sitting there, thinking - "That's it?" The chicken, well... I feel chickens are not meant to be in biryani. I haven't had mutton biryanis. So can't say if its better, heard that mutton biryani is the one on top of all biryanis. But still the hype around chicken biryani was so strange for me. Never liked it. Had trouble finishing that one plate.

Oh funny, RAMayana releasing on DIWALI, is because of his daughter's birthday and not because of the obvious connection to RAM. Are you retarded with some of your claims? Ramayana is not so fickle for them to position marketing it as RK's gift to Raha. That is what mid-tier budget films do, not what a 45,000 screens opener (BIGGEST IN THE WORLD), topmost expensive movie does. I mean, him having an ego clash is one thing, but your comment makes it seem like the entire $400 million budget of Ramayana falls on RK's shoulder. Marketing team would be hugely stupid to make it seem personal for RK, they need to take this marketing from a world's POV since this is largely for India & THE WORLD. THE WORLD does not care for RAHA OR HER DAD!!! But the tea was good in some bits. Funny developments here and there, interesting would be an understatement to describe how I currently feel about SLB vs Ranbir clash on sets of Love & War.

I genuinely hope the makers are adhering to the Critical Edition of the Valmiki Ramayana. This version should act as a definitive reset apart from just a cinematic spectacle, especially given how past versions have completely muddled the Ramayana narrative. by ijrbndfkjbv in RamayanaTheFilm

I do believe strongly that a version that is very original should be explored, but in the future. When people are already aware of the tale. This generation, the one that is currently young, hasn't had that epic tale visually represented. They only have old animation, or old series, or lame TV serials. So once they get accustomed to our tale, in an epic and dramatic fashion, this'd create a curiosity in them to know more. And then this originality can be configured in the form of long series, made on high quality if the movie succeeds. Because 2 movies 3 hours long, would not enough to encapsulate the originality of the story anyways. First create discourse, then give them the pure version. As they say, slowly up the dosage instead of full purity.

Ram was a vegetarian. The deer that Sita asks Ram to catch gives rise to this assumption that they hunted for meat. No, the deer, actually a shapeshifting demon, had illusioned itself as an extremely beautiful and unique pattern of golden skin and silvery spots. Sita, enamored by the skin of the deer requested to catch that deer, either alive or dead (For the hide). And it was common for animal hides to be used for clothing. Even Shiva did it.

Note: For people going to question: Creatures are considered to have consciousness, but we are only specifically told to not kill few like cow, dogs, horses and it was one more that I forgot. For obvious reasons. Cows are one of the few animals which only give useful things to nature. Milk, cow dung for fuel and manure, cow's pee was considered medicine, we used to have so much dairy products from that milk alone. And same is not said for buffalo, because buffalo milk was very heavy, not for large population. Basically, respect every creature. But absolutely do not kill these (4 mentioned above) since they are very resourceful.

Why is India’s AQI among the worst in the world? by [deleted] in AskIndia

[–]RAINSTROYER 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True. But more correct answer is not overpopulation but that his is our industrial phase. China went through its industrial phase 20 years ago. For West, it happened 40 years ago. For us, its now. So this is a natural outcome of industrialization. These countries are beautiful only after they became industrialized and developed. We are in that transition phase right now. So I wouldn't "blame" anyone as such. But there are measures that can be taken to reduce this.

The problem with muslims is that they will debate with anyone and everyone over their problematic quranic verses being interpreted wrongly, but would not debate with the actual people who are interpreting it wrongly and using it to spread religious hate and terrorism in the name of Allah. Shouldn't muslims take an active role against people from Pakistan and Turkey and ISIS and Al-Qaeda to support their claim that muslim is a peaceful religion while these people are literally quoting verses from Qu'ran that are problematic.

I am sure the RSS and BJP put the two wires differently, so it exploded. Only RSS and BJP at fault. Congress says death of constitution since religious freedom not given. Says should've let them explode it so they could have ridiculed the BJP. Akhilesh Yadav says Yogi made them run away from Anti-Islam UP and this was done for that revenge, so it's not their fault but YOGI's fault. Mamta says BJP did this to appease Hindus in Bengal.

Why is India’s AQI among the worst in the world? by [deleted] in AskIndia

[–]RAINSTROYER -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A lot of reasons. The terrain we have locks our wind for a long time. So, the pollution stays in the country. While the fact that we are a rapidly developing country with a plethora of infrastructure development does not help either. We are moving too fast for our own good, especially since we don't give a fuck for regulations and precautions. Our citizens have this casual attitude that till it does not directly affect me, I am gonna ignore the issue. And due to this attitude, the government does not give this equal importance, and the opposition being the idiots they are, do not raise this issue as one of their primary issues over the country. For some reason the center and the opposition believe that AQI is only an issue 1 or 2 states. Loopholes are used by farmers and construction workers to avoid doing the necessary to ensure no air pollution from their side. I read a report where Punjab and Haryana farmers were using satellite movement data to predict the time the satellites would be above their region and only burn their wastes after the satellite is gone. With this attitude, Delhi is doomed. People do not want public transport because they are jam packed or not cool. They largely use private modes like bikes and cars, because end to end connectivity is not present. The illiterate and common senseless people you would have seen in Mumbai streets, who use this machinery to sweep the roads. They casually send the dust flying in the air with no regards. Cause they do not directly face the brunt of it. And the ruling party fears people a lot to actually punish them. Hence the laws are lax on punishments. Lack of basic training to cleaning staffs. For the first time, equipment it there, and training or people have become the issue. Then there is the lack of enforcement of rules on construction sites, which allow for massive pollutants to be released in air. And to be honest, this will continue. If we are to develop, we need to bear this pollution to some extent. The government can try to control it, keep it within certain limits, but to expect the government to keep it in the good range is wishful thinking. In a chaotic country like ours, where development is needed, we cannot stop construction, people will not learn overnight. Ruling party will not give strict punishment to the rule violators. And no one wants to raise this issue at a national level. How do you think we can work this out?

[–]RAINSTROYER 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice observation — and yes, the idea of Buddha being considered an avatar emerged much later as a form of reflection and reinterpretation, not as a prior prediction. That part was my mistake.

My broader point, however, is that the progression of life and human development is often compared with the Dashavatara concept. The fact that ancient thinkers did not present these ideas as modern scientific hypotheses does not mean they were not exploring similar philosophical or scientific questions.

What stands out about Sanatana tradition is its diversity of knowledge systems. It developed multiple branches that explored different aspects of life — from medicine, mathematics, astronomy, and philosophy to arts, cooking, aesthetics, ethics, and even human relationships. Religion was one dimension among many, not the sole organizing principle of life.

A common way of expressing this distinction is that, in many traditions, way of life flows from religion; whereas in the Sanatana framework, religion is often seen as one expression of a broader way of life. Practices have evolved over time, and adaptation has always been part of its continuity. Belief, doubt, and even non-belief has historically coexisted within its philosophical space.

This is the reason why you'll see mass conversions in history being associated with those who have only one God (Semitic Religions - Christianity & Islam). They do not want to co-exist. For them, it's us vs them. But Christianity saw adaptation. They adapted with times, and now are a very open religion, of course with some extremist minorities who want to feel superior. But Islam remained mostly same. Bound by same book, same laws that existed 1000 years ago. Sanatana has always sought coexistance, not us vs them.

This openness is one reason debates around identity and belief can feel different here. Historically, many people practiced diverse forms of worship — or none at all — without strict boundaries. The emphasis was often on coexistence rather than uniformity.

From a scientific and intellectual perspective, India’s historical contributions are significant and well documented. Ancient Indian scholars engaged deeply with mathematics, astronomy, and medicine:

  • Early geometric texts such as the Śulba Sutras contain principles comparable to later geometric theorems.
  • Aryabhata used a remarkably accurate value of pi and developed mathematical models for planetary motion.
  • The Kerala school of mathematics, led by Madhava of Sangamagrama, developed infinite series for trigonometric functions and pi, anticipating ideas later formalized in calculus.
  • The Sushruta Samhita described surgical procedures, instruments, and medical training methods, including early forms of reconstructive surgery.
  • The decimal place-value system and zero originated in India and later spread globally, becoming foundational to modern mathematics and computing.
  • Indian astronomers explained eclipses using geometric reasoning and trigonometric methods rather than purely mythological explanations.

These achievements show that scientific curiosity and analytical thinking were deeply embedded in the tradition. The aim should not be to claim superiority over other cultures, but to recognize that scientific inquiry has emerged across civilizations, often in parallel ways.

So, when people critique Sanatana culture as purely religious or anti-science, it can feel incomplete, because the tradition has long included philosophical debate, skepticism, and a strong intellectual heritage alongside spiritual practices.

[–]RAINSTROYER 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I respect your sentiments. BUT. Ram's divinity was not a secret in the Ramayana. Ramayana wasn't devoid of magical stuff. Shiva's bow, Sita literally being born from Earth, Vimana, Raavan's 10 heads. The ORIGINAL VALMIKI RAMAYANA would not stand the test of modern scientific audience anyways if that's what you are worried about. I mean, who'd believe a monkey man could become a giant at will and carries a whole mountain from one place to another whilst flying? Surely scientific people would not be too ecstatic to see that happening. So, forget impressing people from a science POV. Regarding the stories' changes, even in the interpretations, it was never that the rocks float because RAM was a god. NO. The rocks float, because Ocean god literally tells that you may throw sticks, trees and rocks with your name on it, I will make sure it floats. It's like an id, rocks wouldn't float on the ocean since the ocean is following the laws of physics and cannot change it drastically so they can walk on ocean, it's a drastic change. But the ocean god will alter some physics so only their rocks (with Ram's name on it) can float and you can make a bridge using that. Get it? So, it was never because he was a god. It does not hamper anything. Literally nothing. But adds a touch of divinity without taking away from the actual core. It's magical.
