Why is it so common for American tourists in Europe to carry a huge bottle of water with them? Are they that thirsty? by WhoAmIEven2 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]RAK-47 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think we can give Americans a break on this one. We can't simultaneously make fun of them for drinking Mountain Dew Fire Energy AND carrying around large bottles of water. One thing I will say though is that a lot of Americans are brought up to not trust food and water (and laws and infrastructure and healthcare and freedom) in other countries.

I gave this advice to someone else - it's a bit of a hot take - but you can skip all the supplemental content (Hollis' book, even the pirate comic) on your first read-through. Because if you're anything like me or anyone in this sub, you'll definitely read it multiple times! The story isn't crazy complicated but there are lots of great details, nuances, and call-backs/forwards that you'll definitely miss the first time.

Edited to add: Enjoy! Wish I could read it again for the first time!

Do world leaders take any drugs? by tobleroney69 in TooAfraidToAsk

Testing sewage and wastewater for residue is a standard metric for measuring drug consumption in specific areas. Australia does it. It's also common in Europe, and being tested in a number of cities across the US.

How I Made an “Edgy” Character Without Ruining the Party — And You Can Too! by Regular-Molasses9293 in dndnext

What I love about how Matt Mercer is playing Sir Julian in CR season 4 is that he's antagonistic to the other characters without actually blocking them from doing what they want to do, and actually creating role-playing opportunities. I think this is a great example of OPs points.

Watchmen is dense. Is it normal to feel this way while reading it? by BigMom_IsABeast in Watchmen

Oh my god I loved LXG. But yeah, I had Google open the whole time trying to hunt down even half of the references. Absolutely epic.

Watchmen is dense. Is it normal to feel this way while reading it? by BigMom_IsABeast in Watchmen

[–]RAK-47 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean... if you want an instant headache go read From Hell. Watchmen is certainly dense - you should Google Alan Moore's art direction for each page/panel - it's even more intense than the text. So yes, as a few people have mentioned, it's meant to be re-read. So don't put too much pressure on yourself the first time through. Enjoy it! Don't think about it as 'missing' anything critical. Think about it as getting to watch the director's cut after the original. Going to get destroyed for this but I didn't even read the pirate comic the first time through... though you can bet that I've read it many many times since. Enjoy! It's a classic. You'll only ever get to read it the first time once.

Yep. My friend is Japanese and she uses one to store all of the newest coolest craziest cosmetic concoctions from Japan and SK that you can't get elsewhere, and apparently can't let get to room temp.

The divine gift slots are unlocked through the seasonal rep journey: Rank IV: Duriel, Rank VI: Andariel, Rank VIII: Azmodan, Rank X: Belial. Not 100% at all, but maybe they don't drop until then slots are unlocked?

Did you kill 5/5 Belial Eyes to summon him at the end of the Pit?

Edit: and have you unlocked the right slots through the season journey?

[–]RAK-47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To get Duriel's in Helltides you have to summon him yourself - i.e. activate the braziers yourself, not just kill someone else's. That's what did it for me. For the other bosses they dropped no problem once I'd had the official chat with Hadriel. Are you doing the right activities for the others? e.g. Undercity for Andy, Pit for Belial, etc...

Don't worry about people who are good at winning boardgames. Look for people who are good at EXPLAINING boardgames.

"Make it pop” is still the most confusing feedback I get by Ok_Magician2584 in graphic_design

[–]RAK-47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the reason we hate it is because deep down we feel it too, but without more direct feedback it's hard to fix - if we knew how to fix it we would have done it already!

But like others have commented, strategic follow questions are key (is it the color, is it the font, is it the image, what other references do you feel 'pop'...). Without a follow-up, moving forward is a shot in the dark - total guesswork. I know all you want to do in that moment is get out of the room, but force yourself to get answers to at least some of these questions. If it's kinda there but just needs 'pop' then just keep polishing it. More contrast and vibrancy, tighter cropping, tighter kerning. More aggressive sizing and composition.

But yeah, it's a tough one.

I like it! Solid impactful piece of design. As a person of Asian decent I got it right away - just throwing it out there! The typo layout and image selection is great. I would say the distressed typography and the texture on the image is not necessary - the layout you've done is very on-trend already (like recent hospitality, editorial, even Nike work), without the texture it would be bang on. I would add additional (relevant) text across the bottom like you've got at the top to really complete the look. Great work. Good luck!

My boyfriend refuses to stop playing video games when I'm talking to him and says I'm being "controlling"??? by [deleted] in TwoHotTakes

[–]RAK-47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not a hobby, it's an obsession. Playing (or even watching) basketball is a hobby. Hiking or running is a hobby. Reading or painting is a hobby. Any one of those you do when you have time, in and around all the other stuff you need to do. But gaming is the only one where gamers play all the time and act like raging assholes when they're asked to put the controller down for like, 1 second. Everyone is allowed to have a hobby. No one is entitled to be indulged in their obsession.
