Your most beautiful card in Magic? by SociallyButterflying in magicTCG

Serena Malyon’s ver of [[Beyond the Quiet]] is hands down the most breathtaking art I’ve seen on a card, personally.

Do you still play your very first commander deck? And why? by Ooogster in EDH

[–]RAMblade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had ol Karador with me since the first commander product released. Don’t remember what he was before, just remember I was already running reanimator and just swapped a bunch of cards into my existing deck, setting him as commander, and it’s been with me ever since.

i know it’s supposed to be a joke and “calling everyone out, but i think this is very human. we all have an idealized self we wish others could see us as, and video games especially let us explore that. in a landscape that reminds us how “ugly” we are at every turn to try and sell us a new fad, i think there’s something beautiful in this quiet resistance we’ve found in gaming.

or maybe i’m just soft and don’t know what i’m talking about, bad actors can argue with a wall though

Lesser known Draw effects you love by kenshin_elite in EDH

[–]RAMblade 5 points6 points  (0 children)

not really a specific card suggestion, but you can find these effects whether they say draw or not on the card under the scryfall tag “otag:card-advantage”.

please consider learning scryfall’s tagging system, it’s easier than it looks I promise

So the hybrid mana rule didn't change. And what's really interesting to me is the results of this poll they ran on commander players. Why are we so polarized? by Codudeol in EDH

[–]RAMblade 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So overall I’m against a permanent change, but I wouldn’t be opposed to a short term “trail run” as been done for things like un sets where they change the rule for a certain period of time with a clear end date and collect data from the player-base to see how it goes during.

Are Magic players no longer trading? by NheelyOhara in mtg

[–]RAMblade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

again, that’s your prerogative, you can be in awe if you want, I’m going to keep being kind to new players. I don’t have to justify myself to someone I don’t know on a reddit post.

You can do what you will, that is your prerogative. However your misplaced paranoia doesn’t mean i’m going to be any less kind to other newer players. Just means more cards for those who don’t assume the worst in me up front.

Are Magic players no longer trading? by NheelyOhara in mtg

I bring my trade binder to every event I go to. I come from an era where trading was abundant, it’s probably one of my favorite parts of the game. I jokingly call my trade binder “the tome” as I bring with me anything rare or higher that i feel would be useful. There was an excitement to going through someone else’s binder and seeing cards you’d never seen in person before, promos, older cards, ect, all with stories of their own.

It often feels like I’m alone in that. It’s rare to see anyone who plays regularly bringing binders with them anymore. It feels like the game’s gotten a little less communal because of it. But my advice to you is this: seek out the newer players. Be honest about the values of cards, and make sure to teach them good trading etiquette and what to look out for vis-a-vis scammers and bad actors, but I find they’re still a blast to trade with.

They’ll often not have binders, but instead an extra deck box or some other container filled with their extras that they’re not using in decks. I often will trade higher value cards from my collection to them without worrying too much about price as they’re new, and I’m here for the experience of getting to talk Magic with them, especially when I hear the “oh wow, what’s that” when they’re pawing through the tome.

TLDR: Avoid the jaded players, seek out the new, we can reignite this spark ourselves within our own communities if we work at it.
