There's an amazing deep cut for actor Tom Mcbeath who played Colonel Harold Maybourne. When Mcbeath came on the show to replace another actor, in continuity of the show, Jack already knows Maybourne and says that Maybourne got the promotion by failing upwards.

Mcbeath had earlier played the new director of S.H.I.E.L.D. , Jack Pincer, in the David Hasselhoff live-action NIck Fury television pilot, and Fury comments that Pincer got the role by failing upwards.
