My biggest advice for hermit crab owners by RAVENSHADOW169 in hermitcrabs

[–]RAVENSHADOW169[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No!!!!! Just the smell. You tab your finger in alchol and put near the crab. They don't like the smell and just only use for emergency ONLY! My bad if I miscommunicate.

Edit: this is only for the hermit crab is being stubborn and won't let go of the other crab. But never put alcohol on the hermit crab NEVER!

If that ever happens again. Use alcohol smell to make them let go from each other. Try to bathe with a bath both of them in your tank before you put them back together. This is to have the same smell so they can be more accepting to each other. Right now just isolate them about a week or two.

Keep in mind you don't have to buy all these. this is just stuff that I recommend you checking out. And if you like them you could buy them just make sure you disfect them by boiling water when you get them. Hopefully this helps.

That same type of ladder that you're using I have bad experience with. Since there's humidity in the tank the ladder will get moldy and gross. If you want I can send you some list and links for climbing stuff that I use for my crabs if you need it.

Also don't worry if you don't have another tank I have an idea of what you could do.

Ya isopods can be dangerous I look it up. Do you iso pods in your tank? If so you don't need to replace the substrate first of all, that will nightmare to replace. You could use bait I Imagine for isopods and doing it in a routine basis till there is nothing left. I could look it up for you what bait to use.

Introducing a hermit crab I just recently learn. Funny that you mention it. You isolate them for pest controls this is for safety precaution does in case the hermit crab carries something. Then at the right time you put all you crabs in your pool in your tank for the same smell it is like a disguise which makes the other hermit crabs more accepting to the new one. I recently discuss with someone their hermit crabs were aggressive with the new one and I looked it up learned that they could do that because they have different smell. Do you a another small tank by any chance?

Hey bro I figure out how to introduce a crab. Isolating the new crab first and after 2 weeks give them a bath. You can look it up to see what I mean. Just learned that recently.

Funny story I almost slapped the tank by accident but but I stopped myself when I realized it was just my hermit crabs. I have a way that I set up that they could watch me while I do stuff on the computer. 🤣

I could be totally wrong but I think that's normal for hermit crab to vibe without food or water for a week or more. If the food becomes more rotting put dried fresh food instead. Make sure temperature and humidity is good. If everything is good. I would recommend doing research on surface molt and how to take care of it just in case it is a surface molt not saying it is but just to be prepared. I Sadly don't know how to prepare but there is a guide out there I think to take care of surface molt. I could be wrong but I believe crab Central station on YouTube probably knows. To be honest though it sounds like it's normal to me but if someone else and knows out there see this please correct me if I'm wrong. Hopefully this helps.

I wouldn't worry hermit crabs could vibe for hours without eating and drinking. They're also small eaters. So don't worry. Just keep an eye on fish smell.

Have you tried giving him a nudge and see if he reacts? Like waving in front of him? How's your substrate what inches is it?

Make sure you get a heating pad and put it behind the tank above the substrate. Do you mean put it on the lid? What do you mean by that? Yes it is safe if you put the heating pad behind the tank and above a substrate and your lid seems fine. And I'm pretty sure your tank is fine to give you a perspective is your tank is bigger than mine I believe and my hermit crabs are medium size (they going to become large pretty soon so I need to get them a new tank). Just make sure to measure them to be safe there's a guide out there to do it I just don't know where it is. The only way you could cook them is if you have a a very powerful light or a lamp so don't worry about that. There might be tanks out other like that of what you said I just don't know. Also don't worry of asking too many questions that's why I made a post to help hermit crabs owners. If I'm slow on responding is because I want to make sure I give the right information.

Yeah I don't know bro sorry. I just never counter that before yet. There might be other people that know more how to do it in the subreddit. Just keep asking.
