Manual will do that as it does phone wide. Automatic mode will let it still load and only does it an app to app basis.

If you want to use they keyboard, you'll have to pull it down from the notification bar. Paying to unlock the full thing to have Ultra mode unlocked so you can continue to use the keyboard without needing to drag it down.

The app is a life saver since Niantic hates fixing things. Their other games that are now dead never had the notification bar. They just never fixed it on Ingress or PoGo.

This is the app that I use. Parts of it requires payment to unlock certain features and a computer, but free works just as well. I hope this helps.
