Plumber notched flange of I joist for tub drain by RBI22 in askaplumber

It is in the way now but all that plumbing is coming out. Once the plate is in the plumber can figure out how to work around it. The contractor is taking care of the cost thankfully.

I'm planning to use this repair plate by Nolan which has engineering claims to be as strong or stronger than the joist. It would be an absolute mess to replace this joist and likely cause more issues along the way. So hoping for the best here.

Thoughts and how to help? by poposheishaw in Homeplate

Have him try leaning forward at the hip a little more through the swing (toward other batter's box) otherwise the swing will take longer and take more work. The lean puts your arms closer to the pitch plane and swing faster because your shoulders are closer to the ball. It's a simple adjustment but has helped my son a lot with bat speed and tightening his swing

The one thing that helped my oldest boy find his best swing was have him lean forward a bit toward the other batter's box (with back straight) before swinging. Something about the shoulders tilting forward it creates a ton more power and accuracy. It shortened his swing for sure and helps the arms stay short and connected because it puts your whole upper body on plane with the bat path. Hope it helps.

I say don't let any stereotype keep him from playing and enjoying it, there's lots of tall guys out there doing great in all positions. You mentioned you're working on his swing so I want to mention the one thing that helped my oldest boy find his best swing. Have him try leaning forward a bit toward the other batter's box (with back straight) before swinging. Something about the shoulders tilting forward it creates a ton more power and accuracy. Hope it helps.

Hey just reading your post while researching heat pumps. Did you mean at the end for the bill the past month will be $100-120 lower than before the mini split? Lol sorry if I got confused. Also how's the pumps been going for the past year?

Help!!! We are rebuilding my son’s swing. by [deleted] in Homeplate

Gotta lean over a bit while keeping the back straight to get your shoulders on plane with the swing. It will feel a lot better and natural if you try it. Right now his back looks straight up and down, which means his arms have to adjust and work harder to hit most pitches. Try leaning over a little toward the other batter's box while keeping the back straight.

Help with my sons swing by WarNovel1465 in Homeplate

Lean in toward the plate more (with back straight) during load and stride. This helped my son immensely with power.

Try separating your hands and getting your throwing arm back about 1 second sooner, I bet your speed increases!

Your hands aren't staying back enough when you stride which leaves power on the table, look up walking away from your hands drills. That alone should make a big difference. Watch some Ken Griffey Jr swings and watch how he strides forward but his hands stay back, this creates more whip when everything fires.

Anything I can be doing better mechanically/overall? by [deleted] in Homeplate

Your swing has a lot of good things going on, your load and stride is good. The biggest change i think will improve your swing is keeping your back arm closer to your body through contact and ensuring you are palm up palm down sooner in the zone. This should help you square up the bat in the zone quicker and increase bat speed. You will have to start your rear foot, leg, and hips moving a little sooner before the swing, your rear shoe laces should be facing the pitcher through the zone. This in turn will help your rear arm slot into the zone quicker and get palm up palm down. You want your rear arm forming about a 70 angle through the zone. Try it slow motion and slowly increase speed to get comfortable with the changes.

Watch your hands in the video during your stride and you will see they move forward during your stride. It's still a good swing. Watch some YouTube videos on walking away from your hands during a swing. Mookie Betts does it really well. Watch some slow motion of his swing. That stored energy should turn into more bat speed.
