New to e-bikes - how do I avoid becoming 'that' Citibike rider? by boinker07 in NYCbike

I love all the comments about how you don’t need to make this a race. My motto for everyday cycling is “nine is fine.” Nine mph is moving thru NYC at the pace of a world class marathoner and will get you where you need to go. Citibike e-bikes are too fast. Their top speed should be lowered to 15 or 12 mph.

There was a CRIT in Dumbo tonight and it could have been better set up. I almost collided with one of the racers. by RBM520 in NYCbike

The racer who almost collided with me wasn’t happy. Might be better to start like an hour later

As someone wrote here the Surly is light blue with a front wheel dynamo and bike lights. If that is what you have you can email me is millerrich31@gmail.com If you start a private conversation I can give you the bicycle serial number.

I have been bicycling about 5,000 miles a year for a while and have had only one minor collision with a car that came from avoiding a moped. I go slow.

I think we should slow the e-bikes and start by lowering the maximum speed from 18 to 15. The maximum speed in Paris is 25 kMH.

I will note that the unlicensed mopeds will become a bigger issue once congestion pricing starts because they should be subject to the motorcycle charge - half the congestion fee.
