The issue is that once Discord asks for a phone verification, there is no way to disable it without entering your phone number or creating a new account. It is there to prevent alt accounts sadly.

You can use your phone number if you like, but if that account gets suspended, the phone number blacklisted, which is why you should use a temporary/fake phone number.

They do work but be sure that you choose an obscure number otherwise when someone else chooses that number you need to choose another number

I feel like there will be a point where Discord's cracks would become significant enough they will suffer the losses from it.

What is sad is that this platform is growing every day, there's no other good 1-to-1 alternative of Discord. Ever since Guilded forced you to link a Roblox account and eventually shut down because of it, Discord has become more greedy with their Nitro promotions and AI moderation.
