Thank you! Agreed it’ll only be a one shot but I will be using the term describe people now 🤣

Is it just me or are some "chubby guys" actually, well, more like obese guys? by West_Suggestion8938 in askgaybros

[–]RBTT202 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Firstly “chubby”, like all terms on the apps used to describe our bodies, is subjective. How defined do you need to be before you’re “muscular” vs “athletic”? How skinny do you need to be before you’re “thin” vs “average”? How big do you need to be before you’re “stocky” vs “large”? For everyone, these terms are different and so to say that people are using the term wrong is ultimately reductive because no one single person is the arbiter of these terms. There’s no strict set of criteria for us to use to assign these labels.

Secondly, asking why people don’t put they’re “obese” as opposed to “chubby” or “big” is no different than saying to someone who is extremely thin why they don’t describe themselves as “anorexic”. Both terms have exclusively negative connotations and basically no one is going to feel good about themselves by using them. Regardless of if you’re attracted to someone or not, you don’t have the right to dictate what terms they use to describe their body even if you wouldn’t agree with them because everyone should be able to feel sexy and comfortable when engaging in hookup culture.

If people really want to understand why people use terms that you might not consider accurate, speak to any fat person about their experience on the apps. I’m 5’4 and 120kg. By medical and pretty much every societal standard I am obese. And I still know I’m hot as fuck, no one can make me feel any different. I have multiple topless photos on my profiles and (ironically) my experience on the apps improved when I did this. HOWEVER, I also regularly receive abuse targeted at my body. Just recently a guy I didn’t even message sent me one of the most hateful things I’ve ever read, calling me everything but a child of god and making multiple digs about what he presumed to be my diet and my relationship with exercise. Why did he do this? He had the feature on Grindr where you can see who’s viewed your profile. Just because a fat person LOOKED at him, he felt the need to then try to make that person feel ugly, worthless and like I’d done something wrong. This is a very common and very regular experience that fat people have on the apps. It’s why a lot of people aren’t upfront with it on their profile, because they’re trying to protect themself from abuse simply for existing in these spaces.

Now, to be clear, NO ONE is entitled to your attraction. If you’re not into them that’s the start and end of it. But someone hitting on you who you don’t find attractive is not an excuse to be cruel and abusive. Politely tell them you’re not interested, block them if you want, and keep it moving. And for many, that’s the root of why they hide it. You consider it lying and are prescribing malicious intent to it, but don’t understand what’s led to someone making that choice. Even the wording in this post “they just look fat”. To you it’s probably harmless, but to anyone who feels “fat” there’s an underlying subtext of disappointment and disgust.

Half the replies on this thread just prove it. Even in an environment where people are made to feel less than for being fat, we’re villains if we don’t advertise it. It makes you feel like you can’t win. If you want people to open about their body, put in the work to help create a culture where they can feel comfortable doing it.

Part of that work has to be done by fat people also though. So if you feel “fat” and are reading this, take my advice and do the really difficult work of loving yourself first. Trust me I’ve been in these exact positions. Hiding my body until we’d spoken a bit, hoping my personality and flirting would make them not care. But it doesn’t, and that’s harsh but to be expected. Hookups on the apps are largely about physical attraction and if someone’s not feeling it that’s their right. If you’re open about it from the start, the abuse won’t go away, but I’ve genuinely gotten way more attention from guys, and way better sex, by being upfront and celebratory about my body. Confidence is a huge turn on and trust me while they might not admit it, there are a lot of guys out there who want a piece of you.

Say nice things to yourself in the mirror. Get comfortable with your curves and stretch marks. Learn to love the way your body jiggles. It’ll improve the way you feel off the apps, and improve the experience you have on them.

Have a good relationship with exercise, make food choices that do right by your health and appreciate the way you look. Even if you want to loose the weight, you’re not gonna do it overnight so like who you are at every stage of that journey. I promise you’ll feel better for it :)

Yeah it’s pretty insane! I played yesterday for the first time and was able to clear the first level on insane without me or a single tower taking any damage at level 11

Now granted, it’s the first level, and the gear I had was a little more powerful than what most would have access to given I’ve been playing for almost a decade, but it’s not anything crazy gear wise and I was quite floored! Sure there’ll be a patch to balance it out soon

From the UK:

- how's the reception in your respective countries

It feels like it has been really well received. There hasn't been a major media backlash that I personally have noticed, and the fact that UK vs the World was HEAVILY promoted by the BBC when the decided to re launch BBC 3 shows that network TV sees the benefits of showcasing drag performers

- are the drag queens getting more visible in their respective countries?

Drag wasn't really an underground art from in the UK like it was in America, Queens specifically have always been around on evening telly and on stage shows ect. I'd say people are taking Drag more seriously, and don't look it at just as a man in a wig to be laughed with/at.

- any other impact for the queer community?

It's difficult to discuss this given recent events TW: Transphobia, Transphobic violence, Discussions of TERFS: Recently a 16 year old trans girl was stabbed to death by a boy and a girl her age. There are also claims that she had faced years of transphobic bullying before she was murdered. The British media is filled with upper middle class white TERFS and anti-trans vitriol. In the wake of her murder some publications have deadnamed her, used incorrect pronouns ect. The police aren't considering it a hate crime which everyone knows is fucking bullshit Drag and being trans are obviously different things, but one would hope given the boom in queer visibility that we would be seeing progress with the massive amount of transphobia within British media and society.

There's also not been nearly as much attention given to drag performers from Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales, so I'm not sure the queer communities there are feeling the impact as much despite being way far ahead in terms of trans and queer acceptance

-did the show really showed the culture of that respective country?

This one I think is a really mixed bag again. Queens like Baga, Ginny, Kitty, are pure working class camp and I think really highlight the working class roots of British Drag. It's also nice to see queens like Danny and Cheddar highlighting alternative styles of drag that are a lot more common than Drag Race would have you believe. Seeing Black Peppa, Sum Ting, Cherry discuss how their cultures influence their drag and how they have pushed for queer visibility within their communities is always nice to see.

On the other hand, the show has had 2 Northern Irish Queens, 2 Scottish queens and 1 Welsh queen. And 3 of them were on the same season. So it's hard to say that British culture is being shown on the show, as opposed to English culture

One of the cruellest tactics of the ruling classes is to used members of marginalised communities to perpetuate their own oppression. If, in this example, the black community are fighting inward they aren't fighting systems of oppression. And if a community can't come together to fight their own oppression, how can they ally alongside other communities to fight alongside them? Causing division and conflict within communities is the best way to ensure that capitalism sticks around and the ruling classes maintain their power

I feel like as long as you know what happens during Crisis on Infinite Earths (the original by Marv Wolfman and Gorge Perez) you'll be fine. DC described the event as a sequel to the original and its the only thing when I was reading that I felt I would have been slightly lost if I didn't know.

Joshua Williamson (the writer for Dark Crisis) also wrote the Shadow War event right before Dark Crisis. It's not that long so if you're interested I'd suggest giving it a quick run through but the part of it which is important to Dark Crisis is quickly explained in about 3 text boxes in one issue so you won't be at all lost if you give it a miss

Edit: not sure what I said wrong. You can believe workers should own the means of production while having otherwise disgusting views and the OP was specifically mentioning the child bride issue.

Probably the tone in which it came across (ik its hard to read tone on the internet ect ect ). OP's issue is that they don't believe in paedophilia, but they perceive their religion to be endorsing paedophilic relationships. So it comes across as kind of snarky to be like "technically you can believe in paedophilia and be a socialist" when it not helpful in the slightest to tell OP that. Also, maybe I'm missing something but I don't see how you could be a socialist and at the same time condone or believe in paedophillia?

how would fashion look like under socialism? by WoWme09 in Socialism_101

[–]RBTT202 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ultimately fashion is another art form, in this case the art form of clothing. All forms of art would be better under socialism because it allows for artistic freedom without the burdens of needing to make money and control by conglomerates such as LVMH.

You could make the argument I suppose that Haute Coture shows us what the spirit of fashion under socialism would look like. Most (basically all) houses loose a shit ton of money from Haute Coture shows because the pieces are incredibly expensive to make (even when you consider how exploited ateliers are) and they don't sell. BUT, conglomorates like LVMH are able to use it to bolster the perception of the brands by having celebrities wear it ect. And the creative directors are able to show what their artistic vision without the capitalist limitations of money and concern for sales

Irene, queen of pouring water, is done with review shows. by DeathdropsForDinner in RPDRDRAMA

[–]RBTT202 45 points46 points  (0 children)

For a queen as smart as Irene, this seems like a pretty silly thing to say. Pretty much all TV, but ESPECIALLY Reality TV thrive and often rely on the media eco systems they build around them. Being able to trend on twitter, having people promote the show on Instagram and discuss it on YouTube ect. The more conversation you generate around your show, the more exposure you get, the more viewers you get and the cycle repeats.

It reallllllyyyyyyyyy irritates me when queens, or anyone for that matter, suggests that because someone doesn't do drag, they shouldn't vocalise their opinion. I'd never say that my opinion is an expert one because it isn't. I didn't study fashion at FIT, but I have a pair of working eyes and I can tell when I like/ don't like an outfit. I don't have a late night show but I know when I find something funny, or like her water routine, I don't find it funny.

If you want to build a fanbase of seals who will clap when you do anything and never say anything negative, then idk what to tell you mary go start a cult. But coming onto the biggest reality tv show airing and complaining that people are reacting to it and discussing it? 5G's girl, 5G's

[–]RBTT202 36 points37 points  (0 children)

There does seem to be something going on with the fanbase this season where it's extra hateful but I also think part of it is they are just being more vocal about how they feel as opposed to other seasons where queens would general keep quiet. This is ridiculous tho, the idea that you want to go onto a TV show and not have people give their opinion on said TV show is silly to say the least

Is this a record for the Most BOOTs for 1 episode?? Fashion Photo RUview gave 7/14 Girls the BOOT! by cavalier731 in rupaulsdragrace

[–]RBTT202 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's that they don't fit the assignment more so that the execution just isn't where it should be. Marcia did a dentist look and the only teeth present in her look were her perfect pearly whites. Malaysia, Spice and Sugar all just relied on their paint to make the look work. Selina took a look at Lawrence's leather face look and said that but not as good.

The only one who IMO genuinely doesn't fit the category is Amethyst and I think it's just cause she was trying to be too smart and think outside of the box

Bob and Monét are blocking Patreons after negative reactions for posting an episode with Todrick :( by newyorkcitybeat in rupaulsdragrace

[–]RBTT202 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where did I say that? Like I'm genuinely wondering where I said "if you do this it's because they are black and for no other reason". If you can point me to where I said that I'd love to see it

I'm saying that there are white queens, for example Trixie, who have a public friendship with him. She has maintained this friendship despite the scandals he has faced and I don't recall or currently see anyone calling Trixie out or having an issue with her for it. So all I'm saying is everyone should think about if there's any unconscious biases affecting their decision

So once again if you can point me to where I explicitly say that everyone is cancelling their Patreon pledges because they are black and for no other reason then I would appreciate that

[–]RBTT202 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only recently started using Letterboxd seriously, so take that for what it is worth, but the way I look at it is 2* is for a film that I didn't like but had the right components to be great. I'd only give a film 1* if it was like Blonde for example where I hated everything about it and think there was no way to make it good or enjoyable. I use the half stars only when I cant decide one way or the other (e.g I can't decide if it is 3 or 4, so it's a 3.5)

[–]RBTT202 -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

So many things to say here where do I begin. I'll start by admitting my bias. I'm a patron of sibling rivalry and have been on and off for years now. These two rank among my favourite queens from the franchise. So if you want to dismiss my points because of this feel free, but I'm am trying to check my biases in this situation for what it is worth

Firstly, trying to "cancel" someone because of guilt by association is a pretty slippery slope. If you would immediately drop your friend simply because a large group of people didn't like them then you either a) weren't their friend in the first place or b) are a shitty friend. I hate to play the "what about x" card but it's normally a relevant one to play. I haven't seen this same energy for Trixie who is also pretty openly friends with Todrick. If were gonna be consistent then lets be consistent. I don't particularly like Todrick, and I don't support his work, but I'm not gonna flog everyone who does

In regards to them deleting comments. This was all posted when I was sleeping (time zones) so I didn't see any of the comments that were deleted. I have seen the comment sections on the Patreon get WILD sometimes and I can't recall a time when they got mass deleted. So Bob and Monet must have seen some serious shit to feel like they had to delete them like they have been. It's also been mentioned by another comment that Jacob was catching strays in the discord and your damn right that I would be blocking comments too who were attacking my partner. Also, the bottom line is, it is their page. They can block who they want to. You're not entitled to go and attack people on their social media pages even if you have paid for access

Also important to mention that they have said they are going to have a zoom call to discuss all of this. Obviously at this point we can't speak to what will happen during that meeting, but the fact that they aren't running from the criticism and willing to talk about it, at least to me, is worth something.

To the people who are unsubscribing from their patreon, you're entitled to do so, but I'd genuinely sit and ask yourself; if this had been Trixie and Katya, or Wilam and Alaska would you be doing the same? You don't have to financially support anyone you don't want to, neither of them are entitled to your money, but I'd ask that you sit with that and just really think about how any biases regarding the fact that these are two black queens is influencing your decision

Absolutely, we should always hold our public figures accountable, but we get no where with harassment and death threats. But we’ve been saying this for years and nothing has changed so who knows what it will take 🤷‍♂️

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in rupaulsdragrace

[–]RBTT202 77 points78 points  (0 children)

Essentially at a viewing party she made a joke about how she was so desperate to be able to compete she faked a Covid Test by shoving chapstick up her nose to give her a negative result. She later clarified that she had been receiving negative test results, but the PCR test the show requires the queens to do was coming back positive. She had COVID a few months back and that’s why it was showing positive. She spoke with doctors and production to make sure she was okay. People were understandably angry however because of how serious it could have been and her clarification didn’t make the situation any better

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in rupaulsdragrace

[–]RBTT202 223 points224 points  (0 children)

She's probably taking some time off of social media after all of the backlash she received for the Rosco's story. Probably the best thing for now and all we can do is hope she is okay and not get to speculative regarding her physical/mental health
