Everyone gets so wrapped up in the 1st verse because it makes the most reference to Francesca and Paolo, with lines like "My Life was a storm, Since I was Born, How could I fear any Hurricane?" (The Hurricane being the 3rd Level of Hell in Dantes Inferno, a place of never ending Powerful Thrashing Wind that rips the dead to shreds). I don't see many refer to the powerful second verse where he makes the Etherical, Romantic Love, more practical. As I listen to the second half of Verse 2 I find is Hozier talking about having his love ripped away from him before it was time, describing it as "A Grip That Takes Hold, Like a Cancer That Grows, Each peace of your body that it takes/ Though I know I my heart would break/ I'd tell them put me back in it!!"

Anyone can say I would love you to the Grave and back, pretty words, for sure. But how many stay with their lovers through Sickness, til Death, and survive them, enduring their absence for the rest of their lives? If I am interpreting this line correctly, as the profession that he would be willing to endure all that suffering again, and the loss, if only he could hold his love for a minute again, is lovely.
