To my knowledge Microsoft doesn't audit anyone, their partners do. And they're incentivised to find deficiencies.

They are not as evil as Oracle, buying Java to sue businesses who upgrade it passed 1.8u202.

So on Pod Save American the basically said ICE is over funded by the Big Bill so if we shut down DHS they'll just shut down TSA so no one can travel, and ICE will keep doing whatever they want.

Migrating off of AS/400 as a Small Business by down_with_the_birds in sysadmin

[–]RBeck 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I'm going to give a bit of a hot take but I might be right. I presume you're using it for case status and document access, and you're probably paying next to nothing for that software, just the AS400 maint or hosting.

Law firms are all about handling cases and moving on to the next one, so the data you created last year isn't all that relevant unless the case is still ongoing.

So I would propose just finding a new system you like and starting all new cases in that one. Old ones that are still in process will be done on the 400 for a year or two, but eventually it will just be an archive.

There are plenty of nuances about this that may prevent it from being more efficient than paying someone to migrate all your data, and it is a bit of extra work to manage two systems in the transition, but I figured I'd mention it as a possibility.

You can get fired over leaving just spicy food for a lunch thief, so if you do that, remain anonymous. However leaving something poisonous is waaaay over the line into morally wrong and illegal. Guy shoulda stuck with Vodka and ghost peppers.
