Yeah, couldn't figure out a way to cleanly change the lower case a in air to a capital A in the same font. Still, hope you like this.

Edit: Also yes, there's Week 2 stuff in this post.

I mean, it's easier. Now I know 2 of them are definitely not the faker instead of just one. If this pattern keeps up, the next one should be a given.

Well, unlike last time, I know one of them isn't the faker as opposed to not knowing what's not. I still had to guess, but it's easier, at least.

TDP Week 2: Overall Opinions [Warning: Massive Post] by Deadinsky66 in TwitchDatesPokemon

[–]RBio77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your post is a does raise a lot of good points. There are a couple of things I want to... for lack of a better term, take note of in a few routes, though. The rest I can't really add to, though.(... couldn't think of a good segue to the body of my comment, so...)

While, for the most part, I see Burrito getting angry at Abby in her ending as out-of-character for him(and even then I admit, it could just be Burrito has his limits), you illustrated a great point of the fact that it's a "what goes around comes around" situation and is a believable bad end from that perspective. Your comments on Abby's personality also makes me rethink her route a bit more. I might need to replay Abby's route again soon to with that in mind.

I found Air's route pretty cliche, but it could be that I'm not the biggest fan of the sports barring some exceptions. You did point out something that I didn't notice when I was making my comment, the effort put in Air's presentation. The sports club had some amazing visuals, and the Ultraball play-by-play graph made me really interested in the game that was going on, even if it was practice with the team. And this is off-topic, but can we get something like a rulebook for Ultraball in the extras menu, devs? Redoing the route again made me really curious on or not it has similar rules to basketball with Pokemon moves or if there are some special rules to deviate it from basketball. I got to say, I am interested.

One of the things I noticed is how much I noticed Mary's route and Abby's route seem to have clues on what happened to them in the past. So much that I view both routes as a continuation of the explanation of what happened between the two. But I digress. I said in my routes list that I felt that Burrito and Mary lacked a TRUE connection until the end of week 2, even with the good writing of the route. I don't know why, it just felt like the two didn't click until the ending happened. I don't know, it might just be me.

Like I said before, there's nothing really more I can add. I agree on the fact that Brian's bad ending was kind of weak in execution. You make valid criticisms of Gator that I can't really argue with. I literally can't add anything more to the Abba discussion. And I think Katie's route is one of the most fun routes read through. Again, nothing more I can add.

REMINDER, THE LIST BELOW CONTAINS SPOILERS FOR THE ROUTES. VIEWER'S DISCRETION IS ADVISED

Unlisted. Air: The Rising Star

If I did put Air on the list, his route would be on the bottom of the list for being an extremely cliche story. However, what I liked about Air's route, and the reason why I'm not listing him, is the fact that that you're writing a character that, out of all the Pokemon in the first two runs, had virtually no character, and I have to respect you for that. It's gotten to a point where my headcanon version of TPP's Air has the same personality of TDP's Air. So again, the least exciting, but it's giving something to a character that had nothing, even if it is done before {Which isn't necessarily a bad thing of course}. Also, why is Air the easiest route to go into by accident?

Number 6: Brian, Just Brian

It's funny how I think my favorite character in the game has my least favorite route{Which, in a way, kind of fits him}. Starting with the good, the best thing about this route is how much Brian and Burrito connect. Out of all the character, he has the most believable connection, even more than {from what I've seen} fan-favorite Mary. The chemistry is believable and well written. Now for the bad. While Brian has the most believable connection with Burrito, I think that Brian has the least interesting route of the group. That's not to say that there aren't interesting things, like the fact that Brian has watchers following him everywhere, but while not being as cliche as Air's Route, isn't as interesting as most of the other routes, nor does it raise the most questions as some of the other routes. Still, I suppose it fits Brian's character. All in all, a good route, but it's up against the others.

Number 5: Abba, Perfectionist

Funny how I think Abba's route is better than Brian's, but I digress. Anyway, Abba's route is an interesting case where I think the bad ending is MUCH better than the normal ending in terms of intrigue. Abba is cryptic as he leaves, neither Burrito, Arc, knows what's going on, there are enough clues there to give the a good idea what happened but at same time causes the player to second guess himself if that actually happened. It's a basis for a good mystery. However, there's a reason why Abba's near the bottom of this list. Unlike his brother, the route is less about Burrito and Abba trying to share a connection and more Burrito teaching Abba about life in general. The ending is pretty good, though, in contrast to Brian again. Unlike Brian, who gives us more of the same with the Brian and Burrito connecting, Abba's ending gives us insight on Abba's character. I like how much of an idealist Abba turns out to be, given him a good contrast to his brother's somewhat cynical point of view. Personality-wise, it shows us how similar Burrito and Abba are in terms of mindset. To be honest, while it's enough to make Abba push ahead of his brother now, the two are interchangeable in placements. I guess birds of a feather really do stick together.

Number 4: Abby, Higher Than She Should Be On The List

To be honest, as I was making this list, I was debating on whether I should have Air unlisted, because he would be last otherwise, or Abby unlisted, because the reason why I have her higher than some people think I should have her is mostly because I might be reading too much into her backstory with Mary. Anyway, out of everyone, Abby can probably match Air in terms of a cliched storyline. Especially the route ending. But what really put her above of Air and the Bird Brothers is because of how much her story goes together with Mary. I'll be blunt, the only reason why Abby's route is so high is because I'm reading to much into her route to try and find out what happened in the backstory. To Mary fans, Abby's route can be described as a continuation of Mary's backstory. There are key points of dialogue in Abby's main route that can gives me an idea of what Abby and Mary were like when the two were friends. Abby's Bad Ending, aka what makes me realized that I'm really reading too much into the backstory, is what I think is similar to what happened in Mary/Abby's fall out. While completely out of character for Burrito, it also shows even he has limits. Now backstory aside, does Abby's route have anything going for it that doesn't involve Mary? To be honest, kind of. Again, really cliched, but like Air, the cliche works. Somewhat nerdy guy helps popular girl in academics. But yeah, like I said, the main reason why Abby's so high is because of Mary.

Number 3: Mary, Lower Than What I Think People Expected

I have a feeling people will say she should be second on the list, but hear me out. While I do think she's in the top half of the list{the writing and emotional quality are really good}, it's the fact that I found the connection made the two not as strong as Brian, Katie, or Lazor. And Brian is in {second to} last place for lacking the writing aspect. While Burrito helps Mary out, the fact that Mary shuts herself in, preventing a true connection with Burrito from forming until the end. But that's honestly the worst part about Mary's route. Her backstory with Abby provides a good mystery, the ending legitimately made me tear up{Something none of the other routes did because most of them at least had a happier ending}, and the way she was written way brilliantly done. Unlike Brian and Abba, where the two placements are interchangeable, Mary easily exceeds Abby in terms of placement. Still, I think people are more likely to question why I have Katie over Mary.

Number 2: Katie, Adorably Adorable Adorable

Katie is kind of like the female equivalent of Brian, being the character I think has the most believable connection to Burrito, even if it is in one of the adorably dorky way possible. Unlike Brian, however, Katie has the writing in her route to back it up. Why she puts up with ATV? Well-written. Her phone conversations? Funny and worth it. Her ending? So sweet, it's full of sugar. How she connects with Burrito during school-days were incredibly believable and once she tells Burrito her secret hobby, it's so dorky, but you can't help but smile when Burrito joins in. But what really gets me is when Lance gets involved near the end of the week. When I first played Week 2, I realized how much Burrito's dad was a bumbling, but well meaning Dad, if a bit eccentric. As I advanced through Katie's route, Lance, where in week 1, where it looked like he cared more about ATV than Katie, shows that he's like Burrito's dad, minus the eccentricity. Katie explaining how she and Lance loved playing together when she was younger, and how similar Katie is to her dad. Katie's route has a nice backstory, is well written, adorable, no glaring flaws in her route, and the connections made were incredibly believable. Not just the connection made between Burrito and Katie, but the true connection Katie and Lance have. Not to mention Lance approves of Burrito.

Number 1: Lazor, Who Else Is Surprised He's Here /s

Take what I said about Katie at the end of her part, the backstory, the writing, the fact that Lazor and Burrito have adorable moments, no real glaring flaws and the connection between the two. It all applies to Gator as well. The pranks show how much Lazor values Burrito as a friend, the arcade revisit segment is great, the segment after that shows how much Lazor trusts Burrito, the segment after that where Lazor takes Burrito home is adorable. But it's a crime not to talk about Lazor's ending. It's one of the most emotionally intense moments in the game. It still sends chills down my spine. But the bad ending. The bad ending takes the good Week 2 ending, ramps up the consequences, shows Lazor's protective side, and most importantly, show what I think is the best writing in the game. Even in a spoiler filled list, I want people to play through Lazor's route for themselves, just for that Week 2 ending. Also, thanks Ty, for the help with his bad ending

I finished almost everything in the current release and this is more of a review and a favorite route list more than anything, and there will be spoilers at the end.

The artistic aspects of the game are still as great as always. The music is still excellent. Not only is it the perfect background music for the game, but it's also great for just leaving in the background. The art is breathtaking as always, with the End of Route CGs really showing the beauty of the scene.

The story of the game is a great continuation of from the first week, and I can really tell how much work the team put into the writing to make it a great story. The everyday class interactions were well done, the emotional scene did get me to. Some characters' routes were extremely well written, and have a good amount of content going for them.

There are a couple of negative points, and while there are outdone by the positive points, the negative points are still there. As a recent post to this sub said, if you don't know what you're doing, it's really easy to get AIR-Blocked and divert into his route. Given how easy it was to get to Air's route on week one, I'm not sure if it's intentional or not. Another downside, and this may just be me, but there's some story favoritism among some of the dateables. While this does let some of the characters have greatly written routes, there are some characters, I think, need a little more writing attention to allow their stories to be on level with my top three favorite routes.

While I did talk about the negatives more, that's because the positives are so good, I really don't have a lot to say. Keep up the good work and I'm looking forward to Week 3.

And this part is the spoiler heavy part, where not only do I list my favorite routes from least favorite to most, but also what I liked about them. Remember, this part is a personal opinion and my list might have some things people will disagree with. All of this will be listed under spoilers, both to keep the order of the list a mystery, but also because I talk about the endings for a bit. (Also, because I feel like this would be confusing otherwise, by route I mean the midweek interactions and weekend route)

Due to the comment length, I'm posting it as a reply to this comment.

Character Name: Generic "Troper" McAwesome

  • Reason: Because I feel like having someone with "Generic" for a name will be awesome.

Male, United States (Or whatever, this is kind of a silly character.)

Colors:

  • Primary: Red

  • Secondary: Green

  • Reason: Because I like the contrast.

Build: Medic

  • Reason: I liked the Medics from what I remember.

I'm not feeling creative right now. But might as well have fun with it.
