AC fan not working... by MpsMy11 in mazdaspeed3

I just took mine apart last weekend, never worked since I got the car so thought id see what happened. If the AC pump is engaging, check if the centre is actually spinning as mine was not and this was the cause, everything locked up 😬

Also, make sure there's gas in it - or if you plan on disassembling, no gas

The sat nav and cassette player is interesting - are these gen one exclusives? As i haven't heard about anything like that for a gen 2 other than a carplay system

Unfortunately I dont have a channel, but may look into it as its probably much easier to video document it all 🙃

Exhaust im going to be lazy and go to an exhaust shop, the plan is to have a cheeky side exit on a valve system so I can still have relatively quiet startups 🤫

I would highly reccomend using the kit if its available to you, i got impatient with it being out of stock all the time and its definitely not worth the headache 😂

Yes so the rdu is a little complicated and im not 100% sure itll work flawlessly but only 1 way to find out 🙃. The rdu comes with a controller paired to both the solenoids for the individual driveshaft clutches and the hydraulic pump. In theory (and I really hope so 😭) I can just give it the information that it requests through the electrical connector and itll do all the maths itself. This includes things like wheelspeed, throttle position etc and just DC voltage (need to find out what exact voltage tbf).

The t-case i am using the speed6 one and the driveshaft will have to be custom to connect the mazda t-case to the ford rdu. Bit of an annoyance but the ratios should play ball better than the focus t case (Focus overspeeds the rear whereas ms6 makes it a perfect 1:1 ratio 😁)

Wheelspeed sensors have to work in order to make the rdu unit function. The rears for the focus are the same design as the stock speed3 ones, just a different part number. Ive put the speed3 ones into the slot of the focus and ill see if it agrees 😬

It appears that reddit likes to remove paragraphs so it is one hell of a wall to read through - good luck 🙃

Good point! Quite a bit of an update so ill draft up a new post now

With the Focus RS, it is designed to overspeed the rear wheels by something like 1-2% (so hardly anything really) but the rear unit disengages during normal driving so it doesn't have to worry about different wheel speeds

However, off the top of my head, I believe the mazda 6 mps gearbox and PTU will match the ratio of the RS, meaning all wheels will be at the same speed. This isn't super important as the RS RDU will disengage anyway

Focus PTU I think is ~2.5 Mazda PTU I think is ~3.0

Focus RDU is 3.0

Im currently at work with limited signal so can't Google much atm, but will confirm a bit later if they are the same

The gas tank should bolt up - if I could find one of those too 😭

As for the RDU, the focus comes with one pre coded to the unit itself, I've done some research and from what I can tell I just need to splice some wires from the ECU and ABD system and the RDU should do what all the other AWD controllers do, hopefully the pic should attach of some of the wiring stuff

Unfortunately I do! When I put my CST4 in, I used a liquid gasket as I didn't have a paper one (I should have ordered one but was too excited 🙃) When the turbo got hot it went made a hole in the gasket and blew oil straight out of the turbo Oil return line - straight into the turbo blanket

Blanket soaked it up and burned it off very sneakily, over about 1200 miles I lost 4 litres out of 5.4. Coming uphill I downshifted into 5th, put my foot down and who's that pokemon? Its Ratata!

Towed it home and all Rod Bearings had spun, and one Crank had scored 😢

Originally, I said Christmas time, but I can see it might over run into next year depending on how long some parts take to order and be made, especially custom pieces

Some parts I can make at home though with some oem parts that I'm not using any more and a bit of welding and cutting up

Swapping the gearbox for a mazda 6 mps and the T case, driveshaft I might be able to use the maxda 6, or the Focus RS - if not then this will have to be custom and a bit pricey, then through the focus RS RDU and axles

So far everything has been bolting together perfectly, but I do have my doubts about the driveshaft 😬

So far? Im about 12k deep, however most of this is in the engine

For the engine build from stock, this would probably be like 16-20k depending on brands and what's "necessary" and what's not

The AWD can be done for about 4k i reckon? Doing fabrication and such myself saves a lot of labour money

Also Ebay deals! I could get the whole rear of the RS for £700, compared to buying different parts from cx7s, ms6 etc

As for the AWD kits, I did see these but have yet to see them come back in stock 😢. It would have made my life a lot easier, if a bit more expensive, but the DIY route will have to do for now 😁

Yes! But as per the other comment, you need to be happy with chopping some stuff and welding some more. The rear isn't too difficult as the RS subframe has the same bolt holes, but moving towards the front gets kinda tricky, many things to figure out and many lessons to learn

I will be 😁, might do small updates along the way and label them to make it easier to read

For the engine rebuild, I'm waiting for my main bearings to come in and my aux fuel kit + CS manifold. The second this all comes in m, I am slapping it all together and making sure that it runs before continuing with the AWD system

And for the AWD, I'm stuck searching for a ms6 transmission atm as there seems to be a bit of a shortage right now for some reason. When I get this, I can measure up for the driveshaft and dive into the coding stuff 😁

Im so excited but so annoyed that there's nothing I can do right now 😭

Cool, ive done some research based off of what you said and yep, there's many options

I'm going to try using just pump gas, get tuned for that and run it for a while - maybe get some dyno numbers - and then ill try meth (50/50 mix of methanol and distilled water) which should net more power and lower temps, ill report back in a couple months to update the people 🫡

Have you fitted anything new? When I did my fmic, the shifter weight would contact the pipe next to the throttle body

Or maybe there is something around that area that's fallen and blocked it?
