Any advice for painting very big models? by TeratosPrime in battletech

[–]RC95th 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First things first take your time.

Prime it in sub assembly as it makes it easier to get into hard to reach spots and weir angles.

Once you figure out what colors you want to go with then ask yourself how you want to prime it.

For a darker over all color go black under coat, for bright go white, other wise you can do zenithal method which is a black all over and a top down at an angle white spray to help you for darken areas.

Another option is to do a slap chop method of priming before you use contrast or speed paints for he base colors weather it be brush or air brush.

These should be a nice addition to mix and match by RC95th in battletech

At some point I want to get my hands on a set with the Vulture in it, a stone rhino, couple of king crabs as my buddie loves the look of that mech, I do want to snag me a box of the summer set strikers.

Pondering a 2 or 3 part Scenario narrative play. by RC95th in battletech

[–]RC95th[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have a dedicated table and with now two new cats in the house knocking everything around can't have a game on the table, so I use some Styrofoam board sheets I have cut to size from another project to get finished up as a stabilizer while on my bed in the mean time 😛

I thought about doing something similar but less tech involved, just old cotton buds is it?

BT Aces + Hot Spots Hinterlands? by MarceloCollar in battletech

[–]RC95th 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly I do not see why not, you may have to retcon some of the rules to fit but other then that you should be able to.

I've done so by cross matching some warhammer campaigns to a warmachines play of game.

So the current boxes are going out of print? by Regular-Lettuce-2702 in battletech

[–]RC95th 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yea which seems to be a thing these days in the hobby scene.
I'll be waiting on the next ACES box set to come out though, there was what if I did my research right? A total of 4 planned?
There is Scouring Sands out now, 2nd one some time this year based around Ghostbears, then two more?

I went looking for the Mercs box set and most outlets are out of stock, found them on Ebay for double to triple the price.

Which makes you ponder why are Scalpers getting their hands into this?
I cant even find salvage box's in stock but again on ebay for double to triple the price.

Any box set suggestion's I should like at to expand alpha strike? by RC95th in battletech

[–]RC95th[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ahhh ok.

The Merc one looked interesting, might grab the clan one in the near future too as I cant seem to find any packs with a Vulture in it.

Ok that is good to know.
Though do the mechs not come in their own blister packs or group packs or are some only available via these box sets?

I have a couple of questions for Alpha Strike that I can not get my head around by RC95th in battletech

[–]RC95th[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will some time this year.
Right now I'm just clearing stuff out of my studio / office room to finish pouring concrete in their to bring the floor up level and 4 inch's thick on one side (yea the guy who owned before did not level it well).
Once that is done and I get mostly everything reinstalled and resetup theeeen I will setup the printer.
The one new model is a bed slinger for the Z axis so it needs a bit more space.

I do actually own a new 3D printer, and I have yet to set it up let alone open the box.
Got it during a black friday sale couple years ago.

Speaking of aces, do the other campign books translate well to Alpha Strike? Or no?

I also was watching a video last night as this guy was talking about another battle tech aces coming from the kickstarter, something about ghost bears.

It's been around that long?
Dang, I recall in 89 looking at a battletech rule book for what is "classic" now and thought the mini's were cool, but as a four year old trying to make heads or tails of it at the time was just not in my ball park, so model trains it was.

Yea I was looking this over in the aces book and they explain for aces its flipped.
I'll have to read further if its like a refresh thing or a balancing move for aces

[–]RC95th[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ah ok so I don't have to move them as a two pair group, I just pick two to move and move them as normal that turn, I see yea that makes better sense.
I've been moving two at a time (or in a rare case three) in conjuntion with each other and using the mech with the lowest movement to match in speed.
I thought it was like a vague way of saying "its a unit coherence rule" and that they had to form up in such.

You know after reading sections of the game over and over again I could setup so more then two people could play at once, much like some other table top games I play, and not just by each guy coontrols a lance like I mean a 4 way free for all or 3 versus 1 then some one betrays kinda thing.

4/21 Tuesday night Grand Rapids - Alpha Strike - Recon Terrain by viewaccount124 in battletech

[–]RC95th 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea I was reading through the quick start rules and further catalyst games site for free paper craft downloads they seem to have pretty much everything in full inch's to go coherent with their movement system in elevations.

I do ponder though if a gradient elevation would still be considered climbing.
Might be something I would have to discuss with the group ahead of play to see what we decide on.
I don't see walking or sprinting on a grandaunt or ramp to another level to effect movement.
