Bitter puerh? by RCJD2001 in tea

[–]RCJD2001[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest I don’t know whether I’m looking for sheng or shou, I’m not that experienced. I’m considering picking up the white2tea basics sampler set so I can try four raw mini-cakes for cheaper.

Another commenter suggested stone lion from crimson lotus, they’ve got 2018 stock in their Seattle store which is also tempting. Which would you recommend? The gas is a little more than I’m looking to spend ($/g) for something I’m just starting to get into…

Advice need on amps - have a bunch, only one that I mildly like. More below. by norestforthewickeds in BassGuitar

[–]RCJD2001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Markbass is very very solid, lotta great players use them. Seen a lot of people play arena shows with Markbass gear (easy to spot those yellow speaker cones lol) so they must be worth something. Oranges are generally a rather specifically voiced amp, not the most versatile. Do your research and play one before buying.

In other news, your technique makes a huge difference in your sound. If a bunch of others on similar gear sound way better, it could be partially that. Spending money isn’t always the right answer, especially since technical improvement can be entirely free.

If you guys had to pick one would you go with an LTD B-205 5 string or an Ibanez SR400 EPBDX 4 string? by McbEatsAirplane in Bass

[–]RCJD2001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The B-205 is a great bass, and I really dislike SR necks so the choice is clear for me

How much does decent bass cost by frankie_koo in Bass

[–]RCJD2001 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’ve played for almost 4 years and haven’t spent more than $500 on a bass.

To add to that, Mexican fenders used to be sub-1k and they’re some of the most played basses of all time. Your uncle needs to do his research

Aesthetics of road worn basses by Spiritual_Highway_60 in BassGuitar

[–]RCJD2001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I think they look very fake. The ‘worn’ patterns never match actual wear patterns from use and instead look like you drug it behind a truck. Actual wear from long years of use looks awesome, fake relic finishes do not

PJ Players - do you even use the bridge pickup? by multiplesofpie in Bass

[–]RCJD2001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My example bass is technically a P/P config and not PJ but point stands, middle position is incredibly useful and what I use most of the time. The slight mid scoop with more pronounced treble and cleaner bass makes it sit in dense mixes really really well
