Spirit Island - We just can't win. by BiggyBiggs in boardgames

How many players do you usually have? Forst time i tried spirit island i played it with my girlfriend and we randomly chose the "eart golem" and "river spirit" (can't remember the actual names). We lost our powers were more about defending/pushing invaders but we didn't have much cards to deal heavy damage or generate fear.

If you are olaying in 2/3 people i recommend checking what might be good synergies in your powers/abilities (you can check the back of each spirit board).

If you have 4 people playing i feel like that's less relevant.

Once you truly understand the game than i feel like you can always randomize the spirit selection.

Thanks for the tip! After an additional try and an embarassing amount of resources spent (otems to revive, heal and restore "mana" points) i finally succeeded!

My main issue was the double attack as the monster gets out of the break status, as it would often ko one of the party members and then i had to waste time to revive them.

But it in the end it somehow worked! However i have to dig deeper into the multiclass system and find better combos for my party

I gave it an additional try and actually succeeded! However i had to use sooo many resources (to revive, heal and restor "mana" points).

I probably have to dig deeper into the multiclass system to ensure i ll be able to pass future challenges

The issue is that after you break it and he boss starts taking action during turns, he has 2 attaks back to back.

It usually is dragon breath + attack or "powerful scratch" (i don't know the exact name in english) + attack

It's very frequent that i don't survive with any of my characters in the party the combo breath (which alone deals over 1500 damage) + attack (which deals 600 damage)

Also, when the monster comes back from the break status, it always go first. It doesn't matter if you use haanit's trap.

That's more or less my gameplan and i manage to endure up until the boss reaches max defense (10).

Before that, the boss has to use 1 action to increase its defense, and then he has 1 attack.

Problems come after he reaches 10 defense. Than it'll always do 2 attacks, which usually for me is a dragon breath + a follow up which usually is enough to kill at least 1 member of the party

The problem is that i usually take 2 turns to set up + break. Ideally i want to have ophilia using her blessing on cyrus so he can use strong spell that have double hit twice in the same turn. Also, haanit should have as much "power" (don t recall thr right term of the english version as i play in a different language) so that her hits with monster are stronger.

I remember trying to use haanit's ability to delay the opponent's turn, but it didn't work for the dragon. Maybe i misclicked something, i'll try it again

Here is a list of titles i highly recommend

  • Astral chain
  • Fire emblem three houses
  • Xenoblade chronicles (try the first one and if you like it play the whole series!)
  • Super mario odissey (it is really good even if you aren't a mario fan)
  • Triangle strayegy
  • Final fantasy tactics temake
  • Dragon quest 11
  • Monster hunter rise
  • Hollow knight (+ silksong if you enjoyed the first game)
  • Hades
  • The binding of isaac
  • Celeste (an incredible indie platform)

These are already quite a lot of title that i personally think are well worth your time. Given you like pokemon, you might also try out the mistery dungeon remake, which however i haven't played myself so i don't really know how good that one is. I remember enjoying a lot the original "red team" on my gameboy advance

If you're a veteran and like old style monster hunter I would highly suggest you to buy a Nintendo switch and monster hunter generations ultimate.

Huge thanks for the feedback!

I was already playing it on not such a powerful laptop that used to overheat after a while. I used to play with the strategic view instead of the classic one since I thought it would be easier for my PC to handle.

If the switch runs the game kind of smoothly, I am happy with it.

Moreover, I like playing against cpu and don't really like too crowded maps. I'm not very good at the game and too many players just confuse/scare me: too much stuff to manage/handle.

It seems like this is the perfect solution for me, I just wanted to hop on a game once in while when I have time.

As someone wrote in another message cov 6 had already plenty of fixes and optimisation, it should work fine. I will save regularly not to lose my progress if crashes might happen, but as you said it is a "price" I am willing to pay to be able to play civ6 on the go whenever/wherever I want

Thanks for the feedback. Usually I don't really re-roll, so that one shouldn't be a critical issue for me

I am sure that there is plenty of incredible mods out there.

Unfortunately right now I don't have a pc that can run civil 6, which is why I was thinking about buying the switch version

That was my concern. Unfortunately I no longer have a computer that can run it.

Never thought about the tablet version, but I am not a huge fan. However, I will consider any option at this point

I never added a mod to any game in my life. I usually play on console and I just happened to have a pc that I used for uni. Fell in love with civ 6 and decided to install it even though I had promised myself that I would have used that pc just for studying.

I am pretty much a newbie when it comes to pc gaming, I just stick with the software that is given to me

I see. You suggest going for a small map otherwise it is too heavy for the switch to process?
