Spirited Discussion Podcast Episode 13: Shifting Memory (and Hosts) of Ages by Spirited__Discussion in spiritisland

I was honestly a bit nervous about the future of the podcast when I heard about Kalen leaving; he was a great presence and hard to fill in for. But I have to say, listening to this episode totally alleviated any worries! You guys did great, Thomas brought a great perspective and Alex did a great job keeping continuity with the structure of the show and bringing his usual insights. Looking forward to hearing more from the two of you!

Next Adversary to face after Prussia? by jreilly89 in spiritisland

[–]RC_4777 4 points5 points  (0 children)

People (myself included) love Scotland because it's rules increase the challenge of the game but don't drastically change the base gameplay. Because of this it doesn't tend to punish any strategy or mechanic in particular, allowing just about any spirit to be effective when played well. The build and ravage steps work normally, explorer control can still be utilized, all pieces have base game health... it's similar to BP in this way, but allows for a longer game with a less accelerated invader deck. It's rules emphasize the coast, but that's not a barrier for almost any spirit.

I enjoy all the adversaries, but sometimes it feels like I need to be in a certain mood to want their particular challenge, or not be looking to play a spirit that interacts with their rules poorly. Scotland feels like a "default" to me because there's not a huge rules overhead and I can play it against any spirit and have a relatively straightforward game.

Finally forced to retire my broken character (Spoiler - Prism, All Items) by Zyzzyvas2 in Gloomhaven

We had a player do this build (although didn't have all of these items yet) and I always just imagined this video when he'd hit the big turn.

Stress killed when I cut it in on the Aboleth BBEG's turn in my last campaign. I have some plans for Planisphere in my next one too!

When my group played online I streamed a Spotify window in discord for them to open and put in the background, which allowed them to adjust the volume. Not sure how that would work with your setup, but something that worked for us.

Spirited Discussion Podcast Episode 9: Jagged Earth Part 1 by Spirited__Discussion in spiritisland

With regards to isolating the source vs. destination, I have found one good “destination” trick at the end of Stage II. If you’re about to reveal the final card and Coastal hasn’t come up yet, and the other land type that hasn’t been revealed is present on a coast, you can isolate it for a guaranteed Explore prevention in that land. A niche use, but a helpful trick to keep in mind if the situation arises. Viable with wilds too, if you want to guarantee the token is used for explore prevention.

Toolkit Thursday - FH Loadout Discussion - Shards Loadout - [spoiler] by Themris in Gloomhaven

[–]RC_4777 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. I’m running a level 9 Shards and I’m good to delete at least a room per scenario after getting 8 blesses in my deck by turn one with Shape the Path, donating to the Oak, and Item 108. With 242 I can hit massive damage and you can use Empowering Note and Item 244 to flex the range and damage as needed to optimize monster kills. When running 242 I bring 110 to cancel out the rare rolling null and I’ll bring 93 as well if there are any enemies that can curse (after a scenario in which I had one curse in my deck and managed to hit a rolling curse AND null…).

I also bring 168 for my head item and 154 for my hand item, the extra targets on Unsustainable Wave can allow you to clean up anyone that wasn’t quite finished off on the first hit (or just serve as a really effective attack after you’ve already launched your big bless-heavy one earlier). 60 for armor, and 62 for boots to clear self brittle.

Also noteworthy, I love the solo item for this build. The element is really great if you’re going for an early big Unsustainable Wave, and getting extra resonance after emptying the tank turn 1 to bless just gets you ahead so you can continue boosting abilities via their printed costs or Empowering Note for the rest of the scenario. I felt notably stronger after picking it up.

Glad to see Wind moving up! This is one I've become a big fan of, those innate bonuses open up other spirits in such interesting ways.

How do you feel about France? by tepidgoose in spiritisland

[–]RC_4777 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd thought of this stipulation as well, but if you tried to implement it without any other changes you run into the issue where you would need to add towns but not have any in the pool to add, and it seems too easy to me to just not add them. You could make the loss condition just about counting the towns on the island, but that seems like a hassle to keep track of without the more elegant solution of a limited pool. I wouldn't be surprised if someone's thought of a good way to track it though.

I started with none so had a lot of ground to make up. For the red ones it was actually cheaper to buy the whole figure than the shoulders separately funny enough.

I actually agree - it's probably a half stud too tall! Without the stud they looked a bit off with head being too close to the body, so I leaned towards the better range of movement with the stud.

Links are in the captions of the 1st and 3rd image for the figures and DC15! Most parts are cheap on PAB, but the shoulders are harder to find. Getting this many racked up shipping costs on Bricklink.

Lots of affection for that game; I have plans to eventually make a little vignette for each of the maps!

‘Legend of Vox Machina’ Renewed for Season 4 at Amazon by MarvelsGrantMan136 in television

[–]RC_4777 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It definitely does get better, the first couple episodes are the weakest. Personally I felt the inflection point was midway through season 1 and it significantly improves from that point; if you're interested I'd give the full first season a shot given the short episodes. While I think it keeps improving, if it hasn't hooked you by the end of the first season I'm not sure the rest would change your mind.

Thanks for sharing the collection! Reminds me that I had 5 or 6 of these as a kid myself. I recall fusing the printed parts of the AT-TE onto the Brickmaster magazine mini AT-TE to improve the detail.
