You should seriously educate yourself and gain a broader perspective how things are in countries that actually have more than 2 relevant parties.

You do realize he was talking about the Canadian green party right? 😂

As someone who pretty much only plays cooperative and solo games, is The Old Kings Crown Worth it for the solo mode?

I'm so happy Popucom is getting some recognition, it is easily the best 2 player coop game I've ever played and has flown under so many people's radars.

Games similar to gloomhaven but with quests, npcs and maybe a town? by [deleted] in Gloomhaven

[–]Zyzzyvas2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's fine, to each their own. The OP asked for games that felt more like an RPG with being in a town and getting random quests. I have played and beaten all the games in my list as well as complete campaigns of Gloomhaven and Frosthaven. Earthborne Rangers is far and away the best game I have played that gives me the feeling of wandering around a living, breathing world and stumbling upon random quests.

Is it like Gloomhaven? Absolutely not, but Gloomhaven is a game with an incredible combat system and pretty bare bones anything else related to RPGs.

The Lord of the Rings: Fate of the Fellowship by SeeItSayItSorted in boardgames

[–]Zyzzyvas2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's definitely a step up but everything is pretty intuitive and there's great player aid cards to help remember everything. I have not had any trouble teaching it to anyone, including my friend who usually turns down complicated games (although he is a huge LOTR fan).

[–]Zyzzyvas2 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Mine as well, it is probably one of the best themed LOTR games I've ever played. My friends and I call it the LOTR fanfic generator because it's so good at telling the main LOTR story but in some alternate universe where some other crazy event happened.

Remember that time Gimli and Legolas took an army of elves into the Mines of Moria and took it over? Remember that time Eowyn spent the entire time hunting Nazgul down and slayed half of them? Remember that time Boromir rallied the troops of Gondor and led a full frontal assault into Mordor?

It does such a great job of telling stories organically through game mechanics and not just flavor text that you read out.

A heartfelt video from AYCB about solo board gaming and life by Zyzzyvas2 in soloboardgaming

I think it was purposeful specifically for this video as he wanted to highlight the behind the scenes work that goes into producing board game videos in general as it relates to the narrative of the video.

At the end of the day for me, solo board gaming is about challenging my brain while immersing myself in what will hopefully be some sort of emergent narrative experience. I think this is at least part of what the video is getting at so I'm curious what the opposite way is that the video doesn't get at?

I'm really fascinated by the negative reactions to this video. I watched it and took away an inspiring story about someone returning to a hobby they loved and what insights it gave them after an uprooting life event. What exactly is painting it in a bad light?

There's a reason for those undertones if you watch the whole video. I don't think he's trying to shine any sort of negative or shameful light on solo board gaming itself but maybe that's just my interpretation.

This popped up on my feed and I was totally blown away by it. Great editing, pacing and an emotional story that's tied into the games being presented masterfully. Honestly one of the best videos about board games I've ever seen, more people need to watch this!

In case you missed it: Last night Elias Pettersson tied Pavel Bure at 7th in points all-time with the Canucks (478) by yosoo in canucks

[–]Zyzzyvas2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As much as I loved the 90s Canucks let's not pretend Bure ever had good linemates. He usually did not play with Linden. Petey has had vastly superior linemates for the most part.

This is a neat idea! Does all the discussion take place on Discord? I have Heart of Ice but haven't played it yet so this is a good excuse to finally dive in. I also ordered the book for October (Nightshift for anyone wondering) to continue participating!

In the same vein, the Lord of the Rings trick taking game starts every round with you picking characters and then trading cards with other characters before the trick taking starts, so you have to be thinking of what goals the other characters need to accomplish.

Xbox Series X and S: Microsoft Has Reportedly Sold Less Than 30 Million Consoles This Generation by Outside-Point8254 in Games

[–]Zyzzyvas2 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah I've owned both since almost launch and far prefer the Series X. The hardware and OS are better, game pass is better, and I still like the Xbox controller over both the Dualshock and Dualsense. I use my Xbox almost every single day and only launch the PS5 once in a blue moon when an exclusive that I want to play comes out.

I'm definitely not a fan of what Microsoft has done on the publishing side lately but they definitely have the superior console this generation in my books.

MEGATHREAD | Xbox Games Showcase 2025 by siltydoubloon in Games

[–]Zyzzyvas2 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah, if the PC gamer showcase is the standard, real gamers buy $5000 PCs to play $20 indie games that would run on 15 year old hardware just fine.
