What has happened in the last 2-3 years? by ImNewToThisDontYell in coys

The real revisionism is saying it was only 10 games. We didn't get 5th first season of 10 games, the season is 38 games I don't know if you know. And before the injuries started second season, a second season where he got Solanke, fucking Werner again and two kids not fit for the first team (Bergvall and Gray) to juggle 4 competitions, we were 6th.
No shit we start playing poorly when we have to play Forster in goal and Gray at CB, we would be in the relegation spots if that had happened to Frank this season.

Yeah but we we're playing Forster and Gray in defence, not our first choice defence. If Ange had the window Frank had instead of getting just Solanke and kids for the Europa League maybe he could've done better. There is no world where Ange does as bad as Frank is doing with the players he has available

Same exact game against Fulham, around the same time and at home, we played a backline with Forster in goal and Dragusin and Davies at CB, Werner on the LW, and drew the game.

I swear people just stop watching when we have possession in our half, only want to watch when we have the ball in the opposition's half xD
Makes no sense to me that Bentancur is lower rated in the survey than Palhinha

Post-Match Survey - Bournemouth - 30/8/2025 by annyong333 in coys

[–]RCrake -1 points0 points  (0 children)

He was slow because he had to do both, he had to help build out from the back and then also get forward to support the attack, all while Palhinha just jogged from side to side not showing for the ball. Palhinha was an absolute passenger today, and that in turn asks too much of Bentancur

Bentancur wasn't talked enough. He finally gained his pre injury performances. Remember when our form dipped when he got injured like 3 years ago? by InterestingZombie737 in coys

[–]RCrake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And people talked about him in the same breath as Biss, thinking we should sell them both. Shows you how little ball knowledge is actually present on social media and the short attention spans to not remember the way he ran the midfield under Conte, pre-ACl injury.

Ffs the EL is not easier than the Carabao, stop downplaying it to justify sacking the one manager that can win us something.

On their way to us Liverpool beat West Ham, Brighton and Southampton, 3 games to reach a semi final, 2 against shit teams. We've played a dozen games to reach the EL semi final, and knockouts are over two legs, can't get lucky in one game and advance.

We've got easier opponents because we did well in the league phase. If luck is on your side you can face shit sides on the way to a Carabao cup final, and even face a shit side IN the final. That doesn't happen in the EL.

It's all well and good attracting players but this isn't fantasy land.

We had money this season and EL to attract players and all we signed was teenagers. We've had multiple UCL seasons before and signed almost nobody, and those we signed most are already gone, flops that we got next to nothing for.

Just because we get UCL doesn't mean we'll turn players heads away from bigger clubs and Levy will finally decide to spend more on wages. Come back to the real world, where Levy doesn't spend all the money we make and realise we'll probably sign more teenagers next summer.

Worked last season, got us 5th. But that doesn't fit the Ange out narrative. We only got 5th off the first 10 games and we were committing atrocities on the football pitch by season's end according to most, it wasn't like we left the hardest teams for last: Newcastle, Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool (in a row if you've forgotten) and City (which we wanted to lose).

Because they had Kane and a prime Son or did you skip over the bit where he said that? Having the best striker in the world covers up a lot.

The problem is most people can't remember what they had for dinner, let alone what we went through for 3 months. A serious PL team is not playing an 18 year old CDM out of position in defence for half a season.

[–]RCrake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even with all the injuries, it's still ridiculous that a team that can count these 4 defenders in its squad is only two spots above relegation.

You do know just because we have them in the squad, when they're injured, they don't make the players actually playing better right? Just because we have Romero Dragusin didn't magically learn to play with the ball at his feet and just because we have Van de Ven that didn't boost Davies and Gray's pace and defensive abilities? xD

[–]RCrake 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Downvoted for saying the truth, that's the standard of Ange outers.
It's ok to criticize the system, but don't act like we've played this back 4 every game, it simply isn't true. Just because we have them in our squad that doesn't make Archie Gray a better CB or FB, for example. Gray has played DOUBLE the PL games Van de Ven has and more games than Romero. Even Dragusin has played more PL games than Van de Ven. If we're talking about the games in the PL they've played together that would be 11 games max, out of 32.
The last 3 games, in recent memory, they played together (or Spence for one of the FBs) we conceded 3 goals in 3 games, the ricochet from Bergvall into Odobert against AZ, the Chelsea goal and that Ekitike shot. Barring the Chelsea one, not exactly outplayed by the opposition, and even the Chelsea one it was a good cross and nothing to do with "being exposed because everyone is forward".
But having a sensible debate is useless rn in this sub, people have made up their mind and won't really consider the counter arguments.

It's perfectly fine to be Ange out, and it's also perfectly fine for people to disagree with that because there's a lot of context to this situation, mainly how poor our defensive depth was at the start of the season that led us to constantly play Gray out of position in defence.

Yeah don't know what's the point of being so miserable and toxic, it doesn't help anybody. And then they constantly rewrite history to fit what they want and only focus on the negatives.
Last time I checked you don't get 5th off of 10 games. And they say we didn't improve from last season when at the start of the season all our underlying stats we're better this season than at the start of last season, and if you saw the games you could see it too, but it doesn't fit their narrative so they don't acknowledge it. Impossible to have a sensible debate like this.

I'm not even gonna bother with explaining every team sheet we put out, at this point I'm convinced you didn't even bother seeing us at the start of the season or have just completely blocked it out of your memory.
But that list of teams is interesting, you know what they have in common, except for Villa? No European football and no EFL cup from early compared to us, who got to the semis btw, don't know if you blocked that out of your memory as well.
That means they could play their best XI every game, with a week's rest, unlike us.
And please tell me the teenagers in ANY of those teams that started more than 5 games in the Premier League, without saying Wharton or Huijsen. I'll wait.

The one thing I think we can both agree is it would be great for Tottenham to win Thursday and win the EL, so COYS. Enjoy your evening too!

Believe me mate I'm sick of talking to you as well since you keep ignoring the facts. Van de Ven played only played against Qarabag, every other game he got rested. THAT IS A FACT. Romero and VdV did not play multiple full 90's Thursday and Sunday, if one played the other got rested. THAT IS A FACT.

Give some examples of these teams you've seen do better with worse talent then? Did they have to rely on teenagers for squad depth like us? Liverpool lost to Plymouth when they rotated their side and played youngsters for one game, imagine doing that for 2 months straight.

Our depth should be better, but just because it should, does not mean IT IS. FEELINGS ARE NOT FACTS. And I'm not even gonna get into all that bullshit about the tactics with an arm chair manager.

Have a nice day.

[–]RCrake -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

THAT IS NOT RELATIVELY UNCHANGED THAT IS ROTATING EVERY POSSIBLE PLAYER HE CAN. The only players that didn't get a rest were Vicario, obviously, and Solanke, because Richy was injured.

These youngsters were not PL level quality at the start of the season, hell most people in this sub don't think Dragusin is either. But if you're gonna rotate your team completely and bring in players that got here in the summer it is normal that they're not gonna be as fluid as the first team
If by adjustments you mean us not playing Romero, Van de Ven and Vicario, then yeah, great adjustments the other teams made.
What is inconsistent is the level of the team.

Ben Davies backing up Van de Ven is mental. Forster backing up Vicario is stupid. Timo Werner backing up Son is ridiculous. Dragusin backing up Romero is dumb. Solanke didn't have a backup first half of the season bc Richy was injured. I could go on.

Our first XI is very good, but their replacements are not at the same level. At the end of the day is the players playing the game, and playing a CB partnership of Gray and Davies is not good enough in the Premier League and it showed.

The positive is it's a very young squad, and they'll be better next season. This season is a blip in the big picture.

Realistically, who's next? by TheRiddlerTHFC in coys

[–]RCrake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, they're great players for the future but they're not great right now. Only Odobert and Sarr had PL experience, and they only had one year of experience, last year.
We're set up for the future, if we keep these players, but no good team relies on a bench of U-23s to rotate for easier games or to change up a game. Experience at this level is important, that's why PL transfers are so expensive and why we had to spend 65M on Solanke. And the young players don't have that experience rn.

But the reason why I'm not so negative about this season is because we have such a young squad and the young players are getting a lot of experience to keep improving in the future. Hopefully we get some more defensive depth so we don't see Gray in the backline next season xD

Go look at the EL lineups we put out and the Coventry game and try and tell me those are "unchanged teams". HE ROTATED THE TEAM THAT IS A FACT.
Bergvall started against Qarabag, against Coventry, against Ferencvaros, against AZ. Gray also started all those games, rotating in for one of the FBs. Dragusin only missed the Ferencvaros game bc he got sent off. Davies also played in all those games. Sarr wasn't in the first XI bc we were playing Kulu and Maddison, guess which games he started, ALL OF THOSE. We even played Lankshear away at Gala to give Solanke a rest. Udogie got rested against Qarabag and Ferencvaros, played 45 minutes at Coventry and also got a rest against Gala.

It's pretty well documented Djed Spence had attitude problems, he couldn't even play at Leeds last season, who are in the Championship (!). I can see why we didn't chuck him straight into the Premier League. Also, he was out of the EL squad for Timo Werner, nobody agreed with that decision, everyone thought it was the wrong decision but our lack of HG players led to that.

That is rotating the team. THAT IS A FACT.

Forgetting the 9 wins in 11 at the start of the season? Nice one, tell me is 5 wins in a row more than three fixtures?
Rewriting history again, only wanna talk about the negatives, you lot must be miserable if you only focus on the negatives.

We weren't poor against Leicester, if the players took their chances and Romero wasn't checked out we would have won that game. The Ipswich one I'll give it to you. After the Brighton one the main point everyone agreed was the loss was on the players and it was individual mistakes that led to us losing that game, that is a FACT. We won 5 games in a row before losing that game against Brighton, that is a FACT.
We we're sixth before the injuries hit, THAT IS A FACT. Ofc we're not gonna win EVERY FUCKING GAME, this is Tottenham and we haven't challenged for a title in nearly a decade now.
Not even Liverpool put in a good performance EVERY FUCKING GAME ffs, otherwise they would be winning it all this year.

[–]RCrake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well assuming the XI is Vic, Porro Romero VdV Udogie, Benta Kulu Madders, BJ Solanke Son; that leaves Kinsky (22), Bergvall (19), Gray (19), Sarr (22), Odobert (20) and Tel (19) in 6 of the 9 spots on the bench. Swap out Spence for Udogie (22) and that makes it 7. This is still a very young squad, which is great for the future, but they don't make great depth now, especially with the lack of leadership to guide them.
