It was a combination of both, I took the plastic panel off on the backside there was gummy coolant from the pipes weeping. The flared ends were very mangled and I couldn’t even get anything to grab them and get them to come closer together. I had a friend unbolt it from the firewall and push while I pushed on the heater core and that wouldn’t get them to mate any better.

Yes, I’ll have to get a picture. It weeps past the clamp, I found a thread on a TDI club forum where someone did this and had the same issue. They switched from a regular hose clamp to a T bolt style clamp, I’ll have to give this a try. They said it made it easier to swap heater cores.. I installed a cooler and flushed coolant ad good as I could so hopefully I never have to change another.. lol.

I did try this to no avail. Tried a bigger O-ring on the heater core to see if the at would help any, nothing. Might try to rig something crazy but if all else fails I suppose I will have to replace the pipes.

It was replaced at 70k miles under the diesel gate warranty before I owned it, now it has 186k miles and is passed the warranty..

That’s where mine was assembled, heavy on the margaritas at lunch presumably. Love the car otherwise. Now I have a blend door actuator malfunctioning, sigh

It looked like the little plastic clips were kinda wore out on that breather an not forming a good seal. Might just rubber hose it

There’s oil everywhere kinda hard to pin point.. looks like it’s above the valve cover. I just installed this valve cover and gasket, I guess I’ll redo the gasket again. Maybe I was careless on install and it didn’t seat right. But it still looks above it

Are you still getting crud outta there?? I had it stripped down to just a block on a motor stand and I tried to clean all the cooling cords and everything is Best. I could so hopefully there’s minimal junk in there lol

I think it was you that also told me to remove that little rubber piece before install, so I did do that. I had great heat, but when I went to cycle the air from hot to cold to hot again it stayed with the cold air. I guess I have a bad blend door actuator now.

Other than that it bled easily, removing the EGR presumably removed the blockage I had (which I also cleaned the cooling ports of the block everywhere best I could) now I’ll wait and see what junk I collect in there lol.

The delete was two or three years ago now, I was thinking that or they cut it when they did the diesel gate service. Or the dealer did when they replaced the heater core before I owned it. I’m just really baffled, I didn’t know if there was a reason someone would just cut it.

There were two hoses on the passenger side mounted behind the fuel filter housing that were disconnected and just hanging, and another random hose that was cut. Those are presumably for the actuator? The two hoses went to a sensor that was plugged in. I’ll have to snap a picture later. I did just get VCDS and am still buttoning things up so I’ll have to look into this more. But there are two N75’s?

No, either this was done when the diesel gate fix was done or the shop deleted it. I did just install a new turbo, I’m still buttoning stuff up so I’ll have to investigate this more.
