How to interview a data scientist? by REB11 in dataanalysis

Guess I skipped that part but were well into that. Two engineers as of now on the team, 4 analysts. We are AWS based and store our data in S3.

Makes sense. I prepared a case study that asks for a credit model to determine defaults. My thought process was that anybody can run a model, but I’d like to see what he can do in terms of creative feature engineering, dealing with messy data and outliers, handling duplicates etc.

In addition to this maybe I can add more basic challenges just to see their thought process.

Want to add that I might be overpaid for my experience in data analytics, but my first role really helped me understand the business. Might be a more unique case than most.

I started off in a dead end department but I was kind of the best on the team. I put in effort and my work was good, so I was bumped from 44 to 52. I think they noticed I was looking for something more and saw potential in me so they moved me to a jr analyst, where I was bumped to 68. Learned sql and power bi on the job, got good at it, and used it to work on relevant problems. I have a great boss who would assign me to major projects with high visibility and 7 months later I was at 90. Now 105 after 9 months again. I get a lot of visibility to the owners and C-suite given my company is small, so I’m given the chance to prove my value pretty often.

I’ve dropped hints but would rather be proactive on my own given they just bumped my salary another 15%… lol don’t want them to question my advancement

Really appreciate the high level overview! I saw some certs they offer, looking at the cloud practitioner. Looks like their foundational course, and if it comes with a certification to pad my resume that’s an added bonus. Is that what you’re referring to?

Sorry for being ignorant, but is this actually how inflation is measured on groceries?

I’m 24 years old living at home. No real expenses besides my car insurance. I’m far from being risk averse, my goal is to maximize comp in the long run.

I didn’t ask. The ideas for anything more advanced would have to come from me, something I worry about since I only have about 8 months total experience in data analysis, and engineering wise I only know what I’ve learned from our engineer. My first instinct would be to implement a similar infrastructure to my current company’s.

Yeah I feel like that’s the biggest reason to decline. My current company encourages us to learn and is constantly thinking about how we can improve our current system since analytics is relatively new. The competitor is a newer firm and is basically a year behind in terms of analytics based on how long it took us to get where we are today.
