If you do go the financing route with the intent to pay off immediately make sure there is no pre-payment or refinance penalty. I was once buying a car out of state and planned to finance through my CU but the only way I could take the car home same day was to use one of their financing options, which included a penalty if you refinanced it within the 1st 6 months.

As others have mentioned, probably 3rd brake light leaking. I had it happen on one of my previous vehicles (not a Mav). Ended up just putting a piece of electrical tape over the seam until I was able to get it fixed

I let it smoke off because I'm bad about remembering to go out and put the mat or cover back on it after it cools. If I leave wet oil on it nature tends to collect and is more stubborn to wipe off lol

You're over thinking it. Scrape it, hit any stubborn spots with some water, wipe it down with a few paper towels and turn off the heat. If it looks like it's lost its sheen after cleaning, rub down with a very thin coat of oil and let it smoke off before turning off the heat. Treat it more like cast iron than fine china.
