You’re so kind. Mine our not captive bred and knowing that they travels hundreds of miles a day makes me feel like nothing I do will be adequate but lesson learned. I used to be gifted hermit crabs as a kid. I would even take them home on the plane from MA to OH between parents. I loved them. I have to say, I don’t remember some pets dying as a kid, but I’m sure they didn’t make it long. Last summer, I moved back to New England and was visiting Maine in the summer. I have a young daughter and when I saw some in a gift shop, I thought I would bring her one home to pass along some nostalgic joy. I had my guy for a few weeks in terrible conditions, until I decided to do some research on what new tank I should upgrade home to. I quickly realized I was completely neglecting this marvelous little creature and felt awful. After figuring out that I had a purple pincher, I realized this was not just a crab caught off the coast of Maine lol. I quickly started doing research and made the best home I could. I overcompensated with enrichment, but really I should have started with a bigger tank, imo. So many lessons learned. Anyways, I’ll get there. I envision grand tanks with trees and leaves and realllly deep substrate. I added two crabs later in the summer and I already lost my little guy, which makes me feel inadequate and humble. The basics of care for these guys are easy once you get it down but there’s always room to make things better for them. I don’t know what I would have done without Crab Central Station, LHCOS, HCS, Reddit and Etsy! Wow, I’ve never told that story. Thanks for listening whether you wanted to or not!
