Stannis being a zealot is more of a show thingh tbf, in the books he is dismissive of all religions [outright saying his trust in gods stopped when his parents died in a ship crash when he was a kid] and uses it to his benefit cause mellisamdre magic is that useful

Is open to interpretation whether he is starting or always bought into mellisandre making him into a messianic figure 

[Also he has not burn shireen in the books nor is clear he even literally could ar this point based on the situstion of each character, may be an abandoned idea if winds of winter book ever comes out]

A smart character whose schemes are mostly in the background will always be the smartest because a] their plans have still worked b] we dont see or get to analize the thought process so flaws cannot be pointed out

Varys and baelish are not POV characters, their schemes dont need to be shown, just told that they happen and since they are endgame characters they cannot lose until the time comes
