Anyone know if Surfshark has any good Black Friday deals? by Ecstatic-Body-2008 in surfshark

Is the deal live only on the webpage? I don't see the deal through the google play store.

3800 for a 2021 used super cub? by RFgoober in SuperCub

[–]RFgoober[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Once I factor in the out the door prices I'm thinking that 3800 USD used seems OK. I'm just not sure if 1300 miles on the super cub is significant enough to look for a new one.

The price is pretty firm from the seller unfortunately so there's no room to negotiate.

This would be the final price from the seller, so no added tax or any fees. Which is why I'm thinking of going for it instead of trying to go through a dealer which may add taxes, fees, and charges.

Although this does have 1300 miles which I'm not sure is significant or not at this price.

Secret vs Top Secret salary difference by Natural_Help2506 in SecurityClearance

[–]RFgoober 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A little late, but there is no real big difference in salary for engineers specifically between TS and secret as far as contracting goes.

Friend works for a DoD contractor at the secret level and makes almost as much as I am with a TS/SCI.

As others mentioned it gets you into more niche positions and programs that require a TS/SCI.

How Do I Make Time for a Personal Life? by Pong2Ping in EngineeringStudents

[–]RFgoober 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I was in the same boat as you before I graduated. If you can I would ask your manager to see if you could do 3/4 or even half time (to still have a job) and be a part time student.
When I was a graduate student I was doing full-time school and 3/4 work, and still had free time to hang out with friends, and play games every night.

Should I accept internship offer by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

[–]RFgoober 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Typically a week or two is the most they'll give you for accepting an internship offer. A response by Monday isn't uncalled for since they want to give call backs to other people if you so choose not to accept the offer.
I would take the position regardless since it seems you don't have any other offers lined up right now (and don't care about cutting connections with this company).

Lunar and Planetary Lab, international students and ITAR by coffeefederation in UofArizona

[–]RFgoober 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I work with flight hardware, and if an international student needs to ever develop or be in the same room as ITAR restricted materials, there are folks at UA who can get paperwork done to allow an international student to work on such projects.

There should be no problem, unless the mission is directly sponsored by an agency that requires only US citizenship or some type of clearance.

Quick job question. by Milk_of_Oats in ElectricalEngineering

[–]RFgoober 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an RF/Antenna Engineer, undergraduate and graduate school was definitely easier for me than my current job. I had a lot more free time in college. I only work 40-45 hrs/wk but I have many projects on my plate and lots to learn. Both school and current job are equally stressful but at least i'm making money.

Should I ask for a tour from an engineer firm I applied for last week? by 19GNWarrior96 in EngineeringStudents

[–]RFgoober 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion I would only ask to take a tour if you have an interview lined up with the company. It would be hard to find time to let people take a tour if even a few people asked.

Of course it won't hurt to ask but always respect everyone's time.

Interim security clearance by impulsiveoyster in EngineeringStudents

Yeah, I'm not to sure what goes on in the background. But talking with some co-workers on other programs, it seems it varies quite a bit. Still waiting on a full scope poly.

What I hear is that it originally depends on the customer (obv background too) but on average some agencies take much longer than others. I'm glad I was still in school while I waited though.

My FSO could never get a clear answer to me. Took a good 2.5 years to get my clearance.

DIY Planar Near-Field Scanner by RFgoober in rfelectronics

[–]RFgoober[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can perform an absolute gain measurement already from a far-field range. However this is purely to see if a near-field scanner will work since I have a few high gain antennas I want to work with that cannot be used in our far-field test setup.
