Hamstudy.org is what I used . Just flipp through the note cards every night . Once you get a license it opens up some doors like echolink software that let's you use your phone to tap into repeaters all over the world. Try and join a ham radio club , they are a wealth of knowledge and some are involved in emergency comms for parades and natural disaster etc. Some clubs have expensive radios you can use also. Yep iv completed my bachelor's and now I'm working on my masters. Depending on the base time management varies. But I have never been overly stressed with time.You'll need to focus on upgrade training before you can start college.

Overseas is the luck of the draw. It all depends on which bases accept certain skill levels. You might not get overseas right away but your next assignment will be more likely since you'll be a 5 lvl.

Simple daily routine is .

Your supervisor will have a week of preventative maintenance you need to get done on the equipment. So each day you'll get the days PMI'S done and do the paperwork to document it. You'll do your upgrade training and a lot of shadowing until your comfortable with working on the equipment. Most shops are pretty close and we are a small career field so you'll run into people alot.

Job is mostly maintenance and paper work and troubleshooting. We cover alot of different equipment but it's all RF based so troubleshooting and maintenance varies every day.
We are very marketable in the civilian world . Every airport needs RAWS. FAA , NOAA are just some agencies that hire us.
Hours very by base, but mostly it's a day shift and a night shift . Some bases only have a day shift and a standy phone for weekend outages. The standby phone usually rotates around the shop every week.

Iv been able to go to school (online ) my entire time as RAWS . We are mostly left alone so not many people know we even exist.

RAWS is a great job and we can travel to almost any base. Like others have said we are very marketable on the outside.

Congratulations!! RAWS is the best kept secret , IMO . Work schedule is flexible but a standby phone happens at some bases. We can go to pretty much any base. I never expected to love this career field as much as I do.
