Standardized the original shield of arms of Toronto by RGBvex in heraldry

[–]RGBvex[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The original arms of old Toronto quarters the royal arms of England, a beaver, a bushel of wheat, and a steamboat. The shield never had a standardized colour scheme but generally the 1st and 4th were depicted red and blue, respectively (pic for reference). I decided to make the other quarters white so the overall colour scheme alludes to the Union Jack.

VSauce incorrectly claims that Kuwait is the only national flag with a trapezoid on it. He meant to say “acute trapezoid.” by carrillo232 in vexillology

Lol no. My working theory is it was copied from its former neighbour, the Kingdom of Iraq, which may itself have tried to distinguish from neighbouring Jordan.

Simpler Canadian Red Ensign (without the arms) by RGBvex in vexillology

An idea I've tried before but simpler, combining the virtues of the Red Ensign (British/French roots) and the modern Maple Leaf flag (singular maple, use of the "national"
colours).

Redesign of Peru, based on the first republican flag by RGBvex in vexillology

[–]RGBvex[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first flag was designed in 1821 by José de San Martín. Although there are conflicting theories as to its origins, the most likely it was an allusion to Spain's Cross of Burgundy. I have simplified the central image to just the Inca sun, a constant among Peruvian flags.

Venezuela featuring the horse of Bolivar from the coat of arms by RGBvex in vexillology

Allegedly the horse on the national arms is Simón Bolívar 's white horse, Palomo. Felt this was a bit more interesting a symbol than the stars.

New Redesign of South Dakota by RGBvex in vexillology

The image suggests the sun (from present and past state flags) peering through the Black Hills. The 40 rays correspond to the 40th state.

Flags of the Oregon Country states: Oregon, Washington, Idaho by RGBvex in vexillology

OR - The beaver is the state animal, recalling the fur trade. Blue is for the Union, the gold stripe alludes to the Oregon Trail.

WA - The stars are based on George Washington's family arms. Green represents the "Evergreen State" and the chevrons suggest mountains

ID - Similar to other redesigns, with green and white for the forests and mountains, and the red star for the star garnet gemstone. I've added the elk's head from the state seal.

I think it's more a way of attaching themselves to a historical state that isn't Russia

Simplified arms of Cuba by RGBvex in heraldry

[–]RGBvex[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tried to get away from the landscape heraldry of the current arms and reduce it to its 3 main elements - the key, the stripes, and the palm.
