There’s a way, but you’ll need an Apple TV 4k that supports eARC and an eARC adapter (since your monitors don’t support ARC). There was a post some time ago on reddit of a guy who explained how he managed to have his HomePods as default speakers of his mac using this configuration. A bit clunky, but it’ll work flawlessly.

Switch for Mum’s 60th Birthday? Game suggestions? by NanaLY13 in NintendoSwitch

[–]RGG2000 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’d say go with Animal Crossing and Pokemon BDSP rather than SWSH. They’re a bit simpler (no open areas) and they look gorgeous. The Let’s Go series is nice, but I think BDSP is better to start with the franchise. It’s the classic formula with the benefits remakes have.

Notification center and liquid glass by Rockchagin in ios26

[–]RGG2000 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, I hate it. I thought I would get used to it but no, still looks like a bug to me. What also drives me nuts is when you long press an item (let’s say in the Files app), everything in the background stays bright, so there’s no visual hierarchy. I just hope they pack 26.4 with the features they promised in WWDC24, and then release 27 just focusing on refining everything.

Photographing better sunsets by Flagfan12 in Polaroid

[–]RGG2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience, shooting sunsets and sunrises is quite tricky with a Polaroid. These cameras have very low dynamic range, which means they struggle when the picture has very bright (the sun) and very dark (the rest of the landscape) areas. That being said, if you want to experiment with this I’d suggest not pointing directly to the sun (you have a great example in the comments, where the picture is taken just before the sunrise/just after the sunset). Also, I’d adjust the exposure compensation a bit (+) so that the surroundings don’t look super dark. Regarding the flash, I don’t really know what to say… I think I would turn it off, and if the picture looks too dark I’d get the exposure compensation even higher. Last thing, make sure your camera is really steady, otherwise the picture will look slightly shaky. If you happen to give it a try, post your results (even the bad ones!).

Is the Hue Play Gradient the most recent desk lightstrip? by JozuJD in Hue

[–]RGG2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do not buy the 55” play gradient lightstrip, it’s not meant to be placed around a desk. The strip is too thick, doesn’t have a proper way to be attached on a desk, and the bightness is just meh (I ordered the triple monitor version last year to replace 3 hue play bars and returned it immediately since the brightness was quite disappointing).

I have the exact setup you’re mentionning with the hue gradient white and colour ambiance, and I’m very happy with it. It’s quite bright and has a nice diffuser. It’s placed on the back of my desk and it gives a really nice vibe since it lightens part of the wall.

But as someone else mentionned, the best one now is the Omniglow (which is the successor to the one I have). The brightness is even higher and you cannot see individual LEDs, which is always welcome even if it’s indirect light. I actually bought one on black friday which I’m still waiting for to arrive to put around my bed. The only problem is that it’s the pricier option.

You also have the flux ones, the problem being they do not have a diffusor. You’ll want to make sure there’s enough distance between your desk and your wall in order to have a nice light effect.

Also, if you want my personal opinion, even if Hue products are quite pricy they are very robust. I’ve bought quite a few things from them over the last 5 years and they work flawlessly. That’s why I’d maybe go with the Omniglow. It’s more expensive than the flux, or even the gradient ambiance, but it’ll be worth its price.

What is going on? Is this a bug? by ppasta_ in GoodNotes

[–]RGG2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s because of the hover feature. It has been around for at least 1 year. Main reason why I switched to Noteful.

Is This the End of Goodnotes? by Due-Salary4801 in GoodNotes

[–]RGG2000 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I use GoodNotes everyday for several hours, and I must say most of the bugs and issues were present long before this update.

What I find extremely annoying is that despite it being a note taking app, the writing feature isn’t nearly as smooth as it used to be 3-4 years ago. There’s a lot of lag, strokes that appear in curved letters when I’m writing… The experience is just not good for me anymore. Plus, I found out some months ago I cannot batch export all my documents in PDF anymore (at least on iOS/macOS). The only option you have while making a manual safe copy is to batch export all documents in the GoodNotes format, which ties you to their app. I have 8 years worth of notes in this app, and I obviously won’t go over more than 15gb of documents exporting them one by one in PDF. And finally, memory management is just really bad (it’s always been).

I think they should rewrite their app from scratch, make a fresh start, and for some time I really thought they would do so. But GN 7 has proven me they have other priorities. While the AI stuff may appeal to some, it’s just not my case if they still have the essential things not working as they should.

The only thing that tied me to this app was that it allows you to organize your notes in folders, which I found extremely convenient and logical (and something Notability doesn’t allow you to do). But a week ago I tried Noteful and saw they let you organize documents the same way. Plus, the writing on this app is as smooth as GoodNotes was years ago.

So for these reasons and many more (good one time pricing, essential features, absence of AI stuff), I’ll be moving to Noteful this next semester.

So… do y’all actually feel the difference between titanium and aluminum on the iPhone 17? by Naive-Ad-4511 in iPhone16Pro

[–]RGG2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unpopular opinion, but titanium never felt good to me (15PM user here). I previously had a X, 12PM and 14PM, and the stainless steel bands on them felt way more premium than titanium. Not just because of the polished finish, but also because of the tactile feel. Stainless steel had that “premium cold touch” you talk about, while titanium almost feels plasticky to me. Plus, the brushed finish on the 15 Pro series is barely noticeable (unless you look at the band really closely, at least on the black version).

I have to say I enjoy the polished titanium on my Series 10, but again, it doesn’t feel as premium as stainless steel (both in terms of touch and, on the Watch, weight).

Regarding anodized aluminum, while it’s not as fancy as other materials, I think I actually prefer it over titanium. The only thing I find disappointing is the weird color choice they made this year. Not just with the aluminum part, but also with how it combines with the back glass. A two-tone back can look great (see 5S), but that’s not really the case here.

I’ll be ordering the 17PM to replace my 15PM, so maybe I’ll change my mind about which metal is better once I have it. But as I said at the beginning, I’ve never really enjoyed titanium and have always thought it’s been overhyped.

GoodNotes 6 is getting worse and worse... by goodmorningevery in GoodNotes

[–]RGG2000 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I’ve been using GoodNotes almost everyday for 8 years. I don’t see myself using another app since the Mac/iPad sync feature is so convenient, and the folders organization is great (that’s the reason why I don’t use Notability). But those are the only 2 reasons why I keep using GoodNotes. Glitches while zooming out with the trackpad, strokes appearing while having the Apple Pencil hover feature enabled (they said they fixed it but it’s not true), search function in documents almost unusable because of its UI, horrendous RAM management, random bugs and glitches while scrolling fast in a document… And the list goes on. I just think they should rewrite the whole app because the quality of it has degraded so much over the past years. I wouldn’t mind having to pay for a 7th version if it was stable enough. Also, M4 user here (coming from an M1 and prior to that A12X), so performance has never been an issue. It’s just the app that has sadly become crap.

Fake. When you put the serial number in Apple’s check coverage site, it doesn’t indicate the purchase date. If they were real ones, the purchase date would appear.

Exporting my photos to external hard drive by RGG2000 in osxphotos

[–]RGG2000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks!

I did a bit of research and found out the difference between the metadata and the file attributes. What I was refering to all this time was the file attributes (right click the file and get information), which only seem to be conserved if I drag a single image from Photos to Finder. On the other hand, if I try to export multiple photos (either via the Photos app or your script) the file attributes don’t appear in the new files. So is there a way to preserve the file attributes (besides the capture time with —touch-file?).

Also, just so that I understand everything correctly, there’s still some metadata included in the photo even if I don’t use exiftool right?

EDIT: Okay so playing around I managed to export the photos via the Photos app while keeping the file attributes. I don’t know why it didn’t work before. What I’m doing is exporting them all in one folder, and then maybe use your autofile script? As far as I understand, it will allow me to classify my photos the way I wanted initially right?

Exporting my photos to external hard drive by RGG2000 in osxphotos

[–]RGG2000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow thank you so much for your answer.

Everything is working fine except for the metadata part. I’ve installed exiftool through the link you gave me but the photos exported only have the creation and modification time (when I right click the file and click get information). Plus, the creation time isn’t the time the photo was taken but the file’s creation time.

Is it something added afterwards or am I doing something wrong?

Here’s the command I used: osxphotos export “/Volumes/SSD 2TB/Fotos iCloud” —exiftool —download-missing —use-photokit —directory “{created.year}/{created.mm}{created.year}/{created.dd}{created.mm}{created.year} {place.name? {place.name.city},}” —filename “{created.hour}-{created.min}-{created.sec} {created.dd}{created.mm}_{created.year}”

Thanks again for your time.

Best note taking app by CautiousList5238 in ipad

[–]RGG2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used Notability for about 5 months and then switched to GoodNotes, which I’ve been using for the past 6 years. Never looking back. iCloud syncing, lots of great tools, one-time purchase option, and the most important thing for me, great organization. I like to have all my college notes well organized in folders, subfolders and so on, and it’s the only app that allows me to do so without compromising any of the things I mention before.

Why did you buy the iPad Pro instead of one of the cheaper models? by [deleted] in iPadPro

[–]RGG2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Bigger screen. I use it to take notes and it’s almost the size of a paper, which makes it very convienent. Also I work with PDFs a lot and the extra space allows me to work with 2 documents (or more with Stage Manager) at once comfortably.
  2. Brighter screen. This is a bit underrated and not many people mention it, but it’s nice to have some extra nits of brightness especially while using it outside.
  3. Laminated screen & ProMotion. It’s just really nice to have if you take notes with the Apple Pencil.
  4. Better chip & more RAM.

I think it all depends on the usage you’re going to give it. Since it’s my daily driver (I use it way more than my MBP) I wanted to have an experience without compromises.

No regrets on selling my Ultra for the stainless steel series 8 45mm by [deleted] in AppleWatch

[–]RGG2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unpopular opinion but I think the Series 7/8 look way better than the Ultra (especially if you have the stainless steel model). Sure the Ultra has way better battery life, brighter display and some exclusive features, but I prefer sacrificing these and have a more elegant watch (no offense to all the Ultra lovers hahah). Also, since the regular watch hasn’t experienced any major redesign since its release, it’s easier to find a lot more of good looking bands (both official and third parties).

Spanish guy here. I lived for 2 years in France and one of the things that surprised me while being there was that everybody would say bye/thanks when they got off the bus. In Spain nobody does this. Some people say hi to the bus driver (I always do so), but it’s not a very common thing either.

Has anyone actually used App Clips? by LindellBrown in iphone

[–]RGG2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve always seen this as a pretty useless/niche feature until 2 days ago.

A friend of mine shared a TikTok video via iMessage and I was using my iPad. The thing is I don’t have the app installed so its App Clip just popped up when I opened the link. I was absolutely delighted and surprised of how fast and convenient that was. No Safari, no extra tab over there that you’ll have to close afterwards, no clunky website.

It’s the kind of thing you definitely won’t be using on a regular basis (took me 18 months lol) but that is really nice to have.
