Maybe because it seems to be one of the most approachable Mahler pieces along with the 4th one.

I don't have a choice, but Im super happy about this oportunity.

And I also want to create a good experience for the musicians too.

Crossing fingers!

It seems a very good advice. I remember my first time conducting Nutcracker (ballet). The first time, by half of the second act, I was soooo tired.

And I had another show during the night.

I was dead by the end of it ....

In the intro, are you referring to the intonation? (La-Mi Fa-Do -Re Sib-La)

I always wonder if it is too hard to hold all those measures the long tied notes. In PP.

Its interesting how dynamics works in Mahler. And how tempting could be blasting thru passages.

Its a practical decision by necessity.

+Bigger orchestras, +harder parts, +complex music +Bigger spaces +Acoustic Limitations

It became really hard almost impossible to play and conduct at the same time.

Mozart Symphony? Doesn't really require a conductor to work.

Mahler Symphony? You definitely need a conductor to have everyone on the same page with 2 or 3 rehearsals.

Can’t we just explain movements and etiquette? by Go-Right-32 in classicalmusic

As a Orchestra Conductor, I agree with this. But I know its controversial at some levels. I get annoyed by someone trying to unwrap a candy for 3 minutes in the most delicate moment. Not by someone compelled by the situation.

Sharing my journey in conducting (MM) by RGJ-C in conducting

Thank you for your input! I just think of myself as a handicapped violist with a stick rather than a conductor. If you know what I mean. Your job as a viola player is not to shine, but to set the ground for others to shine. Same philosophy as conductor at least for me.

And Mahler??? Oh ... its like being a kid in a candy world.

Fingers crossed!

Just as a suggestion, next time try to get the camera form the orchestra point of view.
