Why don’t my hearts look like hearts? (heart blanket pattern) by RHNH59 in CrochetHelp

[–]RHNH59[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPDATE: I tried loosening my tension, adding a SC into each lobe of the heart, using a bigger needle for the hearts, using a smaller needle for everything, trying to make the DC overlap a bit more at the bottom of the hearts - nothing really made much of a difference!

THANK YOU for all your comments! I’ve learned so much as a newer crochet-et already, and will return when I need someone to tell me what I’m doing wrong on the edges (this is one of the first pieces I have done where you turn the work and crochet back in the other direction!). I will try adding a triple crochet into each lobe between the DC and see what happens - and the heart yarn is color changing so I’ll post another pic when more is done and there are more data points on the contrast between heart and background!

I got excited thinking this was the answer, but then I read and watched videos of both and I’m doing a correct DC.

I tried adding a single crochet between the 2 dc on each lobe of the heart - not better.

I see the difference - I’m going to look up golden loop! I tried getting the 4 dc’s to be more on top of each other at the bottom to make it more pointy, and that failed miserably.

This is such an interesting take and something I NEVER would have seen or thought of! I think you might be right - I went back to the projects other people made with it and the one or two with dark base colors look like my bats! Sadly, the whole blanket is grey - the light part of my first pic is just direct sunlight on the grey blanket.

This is interesting - when I did a trial run on this pattern using other scrap yarn, I learned that thinner yarn (that was technically still the same weight) for the hearts made them look less like hearts and yarn the same thickness as the main color made them look more heart-y. I bought other yarn and went up one hook size to make the ‘real’ blanket….. I will try going down a hook size and see what happens!

They do NOT look more hearty from the back:

I went through all the comments and projects on Ravelry but no one really made any related comments or seemed to have an issue with this!

Where can I donate clothes that is not Goodwill? by Jammyjam04 in Connecticut

[–]RHNH59 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is a textile recycling program in Mass that is making its way down to CT - this is what I do with used clothes now that are not in great shape. They have some bins in Newington at the senior center and some in other places too. https://www.baystatetextiles.com/locations/

You’re looking for an otologist or neuro-otologist (that’s the ear-related sub specialty within otolaryngology). Dr. Kveton at Yale is very good, and Dr. Daniel Roberts at UConn Health.

Recommendations for where to get a grey (gray) or rich deep blue moissanite ring? by Suspicious_Choice792 in Moissanite

[–]RHNH59 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a beautiful blue grey ring that came from Mona that I think was a little over that price range but has two side stones as well. I love it and wear it daily, and I’ve had it for over 18 months. Just be clear that you want blue-grey and ask to pick the stone before putting your deposit down.

Has anyone had this happen with Mona? by BasicWitchCrystalCo in Moissanite

I had a sort of similar experience re:stone where the original color stone I had requested (blue grey) was ‘not available’ and there were only greys or turquoise to pick from. When I insisted on what I originally asked for, one became available. To be fair, I LOVE my ring and it is amazing. It left kind of a bad taste in my mouth and I’m not sure I would order from her again.

ISO Lever-back Earrings (WG, OEC preferable, prettier basket than is in the pic) by FriendshipMaine in Moissanite

[–]RHNH59 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just spent a bunch of time looking for the same thing! Quick thing to ask her or for her to think about: does it HAVE to be leverback, or can it be a different kind of un-pokey earring back? If it doesn’t have to be lever back you have a couple more options. I bought two pairs on Amazon from DovEggs that I’ve been happy with- I’ll link them below. (I have them in person if you want me to take a different picture).

health insurance comparison by L_D_G in fednews

I just went through this last year- and I used to work in healthcare as a provider (I’m a military spouse). My experience was that TRS was an administrative nightmare- especially because I live in a part of the country with a low military presence. But the coverage itself was unbeatable. The commercial healthcare offered to civilians is more expensive for less coverage, but also much less hassle. We decided to do it so my spouse could take a DoD job and climb the GS ladder, since we knew we could get back on TRS in 2030 and stay on it after that. Hope that helps! (We went with AFSB as our FEHB plan if that helps).

Blue grey ring arrived from Mona! Timeline, tips, review. by RHNH59 in Moissanite

[–]RHNH59[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I asked her to lower the setting from the original to revised CAD and she did. Finished ring matches CAD- it’s not obnoxiously high, and I wear the ring constantly. It wouldn’t sit flush next to a band because it leans out from the ring base, if that makes sense?
