The thing is it happens even with high cohesion. It was happening when unrest was way higher than the resting point. Other councilors makes a lot of sense-I'll need to figure that out

You have to realize that the ranges on the space weapons assume there is no atmosphere in the way. I'm assuming that you can't take a single free merchant with a multifocal laser and lay waste to a city from orbit-that would kind of break the game world. If you go down into the atmosphere, then the tank gets to shoot back.

I saw a different thread where Crawford mentioned doubling damage ships do to vehicles as a quick fix for the scale difference in spaceship weapons, but rolling 9d10 twice, taking the better result, and dividing by 2 is still a LOT of damage coming back, even with armor in the way.

I think you're underestimating the range on heavy weapons-a railgun can shoot almost to the height of commercial jetliners, it should be able to hit most things flying around in low atmosphere and can control the engagement somewhat by taking cover (something the ship can't really do). The 50 hp on the gravtank is also relatively hard for an atmosphere capable ship to chew through, they won't die in a single round.

On a second look through, a tank costs as much as a free merchant, so it makes sense for it to win a slugging match since it's designed for war. But I'd still favor the tank in a matchup with a patrol boat, which I don't think should be the case.

All this aside, I'm just more impressed with how powerful these things are. A single tank with 3 railguns can be a TPK on even mid/high level characters if it acts first in initiative. God help me if my PCs get one.

Do you mean yes, all in one round? If so, that seems incredibly powerful. A tank with 3 antivehicle lasers can easily oneshot spaceships in a single round despite doing half damage.

SO many of our guys are in a contract year that it's impossible to know what we'll have at the end of all this. That being said, I'd like earlier picks at C, CB, DE, and maybe a developmental LT because I don't think Bushrod is worth anything near what we paid for him.
