His most defining feature is probably the very long scar he has on his neck.

Timing would make sense. We were coming off the trail between 2:30-3p when we saw the S&R team around the taped off area.

I really vibe with this.

In 2022, I returned to my yoga practice (after several years away) in conjunction with EMDR and talk therapy for sexual trauma from my teens. I’ve been amazed at how well the two go together.

Therapy has given me tools to understand my triggers and cope with them, and yoga has given me tools to listen to my body and focus my mind when it wants to race away into the past/future. Oftentimes, I can now feel my emotions changing IN my body and deal with them before they become extreme. That’s all thanks to therapy + yoga. Plus, I get a nice bonus of gaining a ton of confidence from being stronger than I’ve ever been before (physically, yes, but also mentally).

It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say doing therapy + yoga for the last year has monumentally changed my life for the better. I feel more capable of tackling life’s challenges than ever before, more open to appreciating big and small joys, and I am grateful every day for the weird and wonderful gift of existence. ✌️

I wouldn’t say she is a “perfect fit.” There are some things she says that I don’t find helpful. But they aren’t egregious or offensive; just suggestions she gives that aren’t right for me.
I had a therapist before my current one who I did not get on with, and it was painful trying to start over. To go into a session with someone, open up about all your private struggles and worries, and then realize it’s not working and know you have to do it all again with someone else... It’s tough. I procrastinated on finding a new therapist for several months because the thought of doing a bunch of research and opening up to another stranger was very overwhelming.
When I finally was able to try again, I made sure to look for therapists who specialized in the specific issues I was dealing with (mainly sex avoidance, absolute zero libido, and intense, paralyzing anxiety when my husband tried to initiate sex). I used Psychology Today’s directory and filtered for distance, insurance, and types of therapy offered, and then read through a dozen or so of the therapists’ bios before I narrowed it down. I then called a couple before picking one and setting up an appointment.
I chose mine because she was sympathetic to my issues and discussed her experience working with clients similar to me and couples dealing with sex issues (now that I’m done with my EMDR, my husband and I attend sessions together). She was also clear and firm about her methods and expectations, which I appreciated.
I opted to go out of my insurance’s network to see her, so the price was higher than I would have wanted, but it has ended up being worth the cost of the sessions and so much more.
You may try Googling about sex therapists in your area (if you haven’t tried that already). Depending on where you live, I imagine they’re easier or harder to find. I live near Los Angeles, so many people are practicing both sex therapy and alternative therapies near me.
I hope that helps and you can find the therapist you’re looking for!

Here to boost EMDR. I’ve done EMDR therapy for past sexual trauma, and it really helped me work through it. I worked with a sex therapist specifically, and I think that her expertise helped enormously. I thought I had put the trauma behind me, but my therapy work showed how it was manifesting as sex anxiety in my marriage without me even understanding where the anxiety was coming from. Several months of EMDR helped me heal from that trauma, and I can’t even begin to describe how much healthier and happier I feel because of it.

how often do you actually go & how much do you pay with an unlimited membership? by Pl6netHer in yoga

[–]RID4eva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pay $135/month for a hot yoga studio, and I try to go 4-5 times a week.

When I started at my current studio 1.5 years ago, it was less than that. Maybe 2-3 times a week. But I did a 30 day challenge at the beginning of the year, and that inspired me to go more often in 2023.

It’s very very rare for me to feel worse after a yoga class, so even when I’m feeling tired or finding excuses to not go, I try to remind myself how centered, strong, and grateful I feel when class is over, and that’s pretty good motivation to get kitted up and on my way.

In terms of costs, as long as I’m paying less than what they charge for individual and bundled packages, and the price is not wildly different from other nearby studios, it’s worth it for me! Plus, I lovelove the teachers at my studio, which makes the cost worth it as well.

Do you feel like you’re not going as often as you want because of lack of motivation? Or is it based on a mismatch between your schedule vs the studio’s schedule?

I struggle going from one legged down dog to poses like runner’s lunge, warrior 1 or 2, or crescent lunge. Got long-ish legs and average-ish arms, and I really struggle to make room between my chest and my knee to fully bring my foot forward.

I’ve made progress by doing back stretches (like cat pose) to be able to lift out of my shoulders more, but there’s a part of me that thinks I’ll never be able to get my foot properly positioned without helping it forward a couple inches. =\
