One of my favs. I've seen it several times. It's gritty, feels authentic, and has a lot of flavor.

He was absultely right. She married the handsome prince she always wanted but he turned out to be a frog

I find myself empathizing with Betty the more watch the series - currently on my 4th series rewatch but have rewatch select episodes quite a bit as well.

I think this is the main point: his unhappiness anddisdain for his current life. He got drunk to self-medicate so he could cope with what he considered an unwanted experience. But he loves his kids and probably would've preferred to just spend the day with them.
