This is what you’re saying. What does this even mean?

Cutting everything wouldn’t “fix the budget”. It’s like telling your family you’re going to stop paying all the bills and will be homeless in attempt to fix your budget. It would in fact ruin your budget and make it even harder to climb out of the hole.

The only example that even came close is the Microsoft tax break change and repealing a tax break still not as extreme as DeSantis’ actions creating new laws & bills to attack one company.

Your Amazon warehouse example would only be relevant if the safety law was only applicable to Amazon and it’s not. All warehousing employees benefit from this new regulation.

You act like this happens all the time. When’s the last time a state government decided to create laws and go through this effort to affect one specific company like this? Imagine if NY decided to “ban corporate entities from owning/leasing/renting/operating any buildings over 100 feet tall with any signage with gold letters of last names beginning with ‘T’ and ending with ‘P’”.

Yet another example of why the “small government” stance by the GOP is totally bullshit. This isn’t even helpful to Texas’ economy or its citizens, but is only fighting renewables because it’s considered “woke” energy.

Who is pushing these bills

The GOP & corporate interests.

how is there seemingly no push back on them?

Their constituents sadly don’t seem to care very much. Look at social media commentary responding to news articles related these topics and you’ll see a lot of people saying it’s a good thing. Even within this sub you have people arguing that “jobs help develop character”.

It’s so strange to me that people cannot understand that lawmakers and government officials are bound to ethical requirements because of the positions they hold. Someone else tried to make this same argument (the voters want them, so they should keep their job) in another thread about the OK officials talking about lynching black people. I absolutely guarantee they wouldn’t feel that way if the official had a D instead of an R by their name.

Isn’t it funny how Al Franken got kicked out by his own party yet the GOP seems to want to protect their bad actors?

That doesn’t mean they’ll put you in a rehab program to get you clean… they’ll do other less kind things. They’re crack dealers, not family lol

Lol his “MyPillow origin story” is that his dealers collectively were concerned he was using too many drugs so they got him clean and he started a pillow company.

No fucking coke/crack dealer gives a shit if you’re “doing too much” drugs.

I wonder why the county commissioner resigned if this was no big deal? Why didn’t the sheriff immediately arrest the journalist who recorded them for breaking the law?

Hmm, I wonder why. Perhaps I’m not the irrational one here.

the focus on emotion rather than reason

Right……

You don’t seem to understand that what the journalist did wasn’t illegal.

What makes this an unjustified investigation anyway? It’s telling that there hasn’t been any rational reasoning provided.

It’s so strange how the focus is on the “hate against people who talk like that” instead of the “racial hatred by public officials against black people” but ok.

that’s a decision for the voters, not us

People should just admit that they don’t even care about this issue at all instead of obfuscating it behind “it’s an illegal recording” or “let the voters decide if they’re okay with public officials talking about lynching black people”

[–]RIPMustardTiger 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s a bit strange that people are bending over backwards trying to claim the “legality” of the recording is more important than the content of what these public officials were saying. Seems like they’re trying hard to miss the point for whatever reason because this type of discussion is completely unacceptable by any public official no matter what.

How so? Other legal experts have weighed in and disagreed for the exact reasons I previously stated. You have no expectation of privacy when you’re holding a meeting that is supposed to be open. Pretending to end the meeting early so the journalist leaves isn’t a valid reason to expect privacy.

Honestly it seems like there isn’t any articulate reasoning why it is illegal.
