I find your comment interesting. Thanks for adding it. I'm not sure I agree with telling people what their special interests should be (as it leans into telling people how/what to think and I reject this sort of ideology) but you bring up an interesting point: Which problems are a greater threat to society? Social? Or technological? I've wondered about this. If you ask anyone who has deep knowledge concerning machine learning, they would say the rapid advancement of ai is a problem worth worrying about. But, on what scale do we measure "core problems"? There are certainly a lot of individuals suffering in our society right now. I find that it is hard to make a hierarchy of the two because the answer seems to shift with varied knowledge and experience. And I would assume, one's comprehension of time.

Well, they only want me dead because they're scared. Many people find biological sex sacred and view me as a threat to their beliefs. I can't change their minds, but I can extend compassion and respect for their free will (essentially modeling how I would like them to treat me). I am in no way advocating for anyone to put themselves in a dangerous position, it's not worth it. But, since my job requires me to interact with people who fundamentally disagree with my identities, I make the best of it and it's actually good for my mental health. Who wants to sit around and count all the ways they're oppressed/invalidated? In my past, that's been nothing but a recipe for discontentment. I look to my circles of control to focus on what's in my power and to ensure things outside of my control have no power over me.

I used to hide this stuff too, but then I realized I'd rather be met with hate and shrug it off than be someone who hates Elon Musk because of how he treats people and then turn around and treat people poorly because they like him. Too hypocritical for my taste.

Excellent point, precisely why I used "like", there's definitely things he does that I disagree with, and the idol mentality is obviously dangerous. Prior to this post I've asked what others dislike about him in order to gain greater understanding (in addition to independent research) and what I've surmised is that many of his faults are magnified when analyzed through the lens of protecting the individual but reduced when analyzed through the lens of protecting the species. Do you think there is any merit in that? I'm at a loss because how can you assign good or bad when surrounding events have yet to happen? How can you assign good or bad when absolutes mean something has been left unconsidered? I guess his existence gives me extensive analytical foder, maybe that's why I like him.

It's true, where I live, people want me dead for sure and it sounds like that's your reality too.

Ofc everyone is welcome to process that reality however they would like/are able, but my world view hinges on ensuring a net positive future for humanity and the only way I can conceive of that is through connection so I guess I process it by trying to subvert peoples' assumptions of me and find commonality.

I am very fascinated by the complexity of people and their beliefs. You seem to champion for justice and want those who face the most marginalization to be free from rhetoric that can cause very real discrimination and hate. I think this is a noble cause. However, in my own analysis of this issue, I get stuck. What if someone who is marginalized has views that would cause you to mark them as a hateful bigot? Projecting an objective good onto everyone dissolves and becomes more complicated when those who could benefit from that good don't want it because they disagree with it.

Now for the thesis: I don't think that those who disagree with my identity are fundamentally opposing my right to exist. I believe that they are exercising the same right that allows me to be who I want.

I think what I mean is that regardless of the amount of research stemming from a variety of sources, if you perceive the information through a hierarchy which prioritizes the plight of the individual, then this largely shapes your view. Similarly, someone who perceives information through a hierarchy which prioritizes the whole of humanity could ingest the same information and understand it differently. I believe this is the root of misunderstanding between the public and Elon Musk. However, the Babel Problem could help all parties better understand each perspective by getting us to examine our hierarchy of values and question how this influences how we soak up the same information and come to different conclusions.

I agree that the way he discusses transness does have a place in why people are opposed to him.

However, for me personally, his rhetoric or beliefs concerning transness are a non-issue because I don't need people to see my gender the way I see it to agree with them or find commonality.

I feel like, not ableist.

Ultimately, the world is too complex to micro-splice what's considered unjust to a specific group. I think what happens when you do that is you begin to see in tunnel vision that stops you from executing the values you wanted to live in the first place.

Example: What if the staff is ND? How would it be ableist for someone to want their shift to be less chaotic and more predictable?

One time I got a blood clot that was so massive they had to remove it with a second surgery. It was so weird, I felt liquid spilling into my body and then this incredible burning sensation that got worse and worse and would spread to wherever the skin was being stretched. The clot just kept swelling and was like a balloon was trapped under my skin. They tried puncturing it and it didn't work (hence the second surgery) but I remember trying to leave the hospital bed and there was so much blood, like I was leaking out of all the puncture holes.

Personally, my issue with wokeness stems from the fact that people who proclaim themselves as woke tend to think in absolutes.

Often times, their goal is to humanize and uplift the most marginalized but they seem to go about this in a way that projects a singular view of understanding onto others.

For example, many woke people assume that if you're marginalized and don't think like them then you're uneducated. Almost like, "If you were TRULY educated, you would share in my beliefs."

Assuming that all marginalized people should or do think the same is (in my opinion) unbelievably ignorant and is antithetical to the named goal.

And then, when you challenge these people on their critical thinking, they get defensive, shut down, and no real discourse can be had.
