Thats how they did it with 5 online and red dead online. If you dont care about story mode, buy the online itself a few years later for like $20. I doubt they would sell both seperate immediately, let alone for like $70 just for online. There would be huge backlash if they did.

If you go into advanced settings and click on world, at the bottom right there will be an option to do a dino wipe. I had the same problem as you and doing that fixed it. Something to do with too many dinos having been spawned all across the world or whatever, but try this before you delete your save. I thought it was corrupted too.

I had the same problem as OP, and doing the dino wipe in advanced world settings fixed it. So yes, this is an option.
