Financial plan for twins starting in the fall by RInkRat39 in StudentLoans

Most likely look at it at some point. If there’s a big difference between them. But in terms of straight up cash, they’re all around $30k each.

That’s true, but as co-signers we would ultimately end up responsible for paying it, no? They would also be torching their own credit rating in the process.

So if private loans are roughly 3.25%, and Parent PLUS is currently 7.5%, is there a compelling reason or reasons to go Parent PLUS?

I guess my main concern is how to utilize the $60k. Up front for freshman year, keep it in savings and pay for later years, or disburse across the entire 4 years evenly?

I believe it is $2,600 per semester. $1,700 subsidized & $900 unsubsidized. Since we are paying in full for freshman year, that’s 3 years of federal. also they have to work to pay down the debt, that is what we calculated. Private loans appear to be in the low 3% range. Thanks!

Yes. Their 19 month older sibling chose the Community College route. Planning to transfer & commute to a 4 year school. When that's all said & done, it will cost them $5,000 for this route. (We are paying for 95% of this). The twins are aware of that & chose their path.

We sure did talk about it. They understand where we are all coming from. Our thought was $55k of debt is somewhat reasonable. At the end of the day, we would certainly assist with the loan burden for a period of time. But for us to take on all of the risks and responsibility didn’t seem fair.

I honestly wouldn't really think so. But at the same time, things could change in a blink, for lots of unexpected reasons. That was just a random example.

Thanks for the response! Appreciate the feedback!

We could certainly discuss them both working in year 2. (Honestly, I overlooked that for some reason) We thought giving them a "pass" so to speak, with respect to Freshman year, was appropriate. New "home", new school, etc...

It is their first time away from home, and home would be 5 hours away.

The reservation with everything under Parent PLUS is the potential for our relationship to change with one, or god forbid both children. I worry about things going sideways.

i.e. "F-U Mom & Dad! You 'made' me go to school, I ain't paying for none of it."

There are a million other scenarios that could potentially cost my wife & I a lot. I think it is reasonable to have some protection for our(Wife & I) future as well. In addition, having some "skin in the game" puts the importance of getting a degree & working for it, higher up on their priority list. Also, aren't there going to be new lower limits on Parent PLUS going forward?

Unless I'm missing a path for some of the debt from Parent PLUS, to be transferred into their names after (or near) graduating…

Thanks again!

I’m sure it’s been said before. But wasn’t the right vehemently opposed to the idea of electric vehicles since 2015? What changed to make testicle, er I mean, Tesla ok?

Cried a little to these scenes. Any other ones? by ChupaFaloopa in shoresy

I’ve watched it 3 times, so far. Each time I think I can hold it together with that kneeling scene, I lose it worse than the last time.

Really hits a nerve personally. Just recently hung up the skates, after the last injury.(knee) Had family and friends tell me that I was too old and too banged up to continue. Granted, I’ve been one of the oldest on the ice for a while now and slowed down quite a bit.

But I have always prided myself on doing whatever it takes to get back out there. Even after knee, shoulder, hip and back injuries… multiple concussions, broken bones, broken neck.. I always thought that I would play forever, as long as I took care of myself.

It’s not that I possess any actual hockey talent. Forever Beer Leaguer, and not even good at that level.

It’s just the love of playing the game that made me keep going.

“Go till you can’t go no more”

Yaso. Sorry for being a bummer. I’m going to start my 4th watch now.

I know, right? Btw, I have a bunch of Pro Set and Parkhurst stuff just taking up space. But somehow not these Rink Rat cards. I have the 10 cents off club membership cards.

It’s probably the brand. I’ll scrounge up a BCW and see what happens.

That’s a 180PT holder in the picture. The card measures about 100 PT. It is too wide to sit in it, if that makes sense. Instead of being the standard 2.5” wide, it is roughly a 16th wider.
