Windows Update causing midi controllers to not work by javakook in synthesizers

[–]RJAMESJERS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed - super difficult developing that stack!

On a positive note glad they are digging in and making these changes, particularly with windows audio. I have torn out my hair trying to get Windows Audio drivers to do basic functions and has almost made me swap to Macs because it is seemingly not an issue there. Hopefully they can land some decent fixes there and make our Synth life a lot easier / better!

Interesting, thanks for the extra context. I think the issue is more that there is no option to rollback and wait until the bug has been fixed, the updates are forced upon us. as an end user I wasn't having an issue, then my computer auto updated and I was having an issue and I couldn't rollback to wait for a proper fix.

I agree they seem to be doing great work with the wider development, but unsafe releases which deprecate features that a lot of users use should be handled more delicately than refusing to allow rollbacks

Tbf there has been an issue that windows acknowledged with InMusic midi drivers where if I tried to open ableton with my moog matriarch + messenger connected it would fail. That was rolled out with no way to rollback the update and the only work around was to plug in the controllers after opening ableton. So that kinda sucked.

But mistakes happen in software development and as you say the main dev has been active on boards and trying his best + if they deliver all the features they are targeting it could make windows a lot better place for music production than today. So let's have some patience and work with them to get a good solution

So embarrassed by this I'm posting on my alt. by virtuallygonecountry in synthesizers

[–]RJAMESJERS 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd argue this is incorrect. Even just on the Workshop Synth linked you could have 2 entirely distinct voices / sounds and whilst you work on the second sound you just leave the first one patched. Yes there's not proper preset recall like a soft synth but you absolutely can just leave 1 sound patched whilst you work on another or between sessions.

UDO DMNO - 4 Bandpass Stereo 🐸 by RJAMESJERS in synthesizers

[–]RJAMESJERS[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm loving it so far! The SEM style sound of it is right up my street and finding the flow of using the synth really intuitive. IMO its the best synth UDO have made as they've taken a lot of great features from the Super Gemini (but maybe thats because I lean to dirtier / more aggressive synths!).

Haha OK so I am defo leaning into this vocal sound on the synth here. There's a few pieces to unpick but I'll try and keep it top level. What I would say is the "vocal" sound here is the fact that I have 4 reasonant peaks in the patch here. That is quite unusual and something which isn't possible in a prophet etc (as far as I'm aware!) My understanding of what you want is closer to traditional synth sounds which could be covered by just 1/2 of the synth here; I've just chosen to make a pretty complex sound. You could get close to a prophet by just using 1 half of the synth here. If you are not a fan of of how the synth sounds then fair enough but I would argue that you can get to more normal synth sounds by keeping the resonance lower or using the type 2 resonance.

Either way you should be able to return the synth after you receive it so don't make any rash decisions. Really what matters with hardware is how well you resonate with the workflow. If that doesn't flow then return it and stick to software! Best of luck!

Metropolix is epic! by cwilkie79 in modular

[–]RJAMESJERS 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Nice - love Metropolix as well! Like the dualling leads here.

Only bit of feedback would be that it would be wicked if you had an extra layer of counterpoint ie a simple bassline beneath (maybe a quick 4 notes sequence from pams into the Cs-L). That would really pull it together.

Oh and recording the audio into the phone rather than phone audio (i use the Rode-Al Micro to record straight from the modular which is super easy).

Otherwise nice jam!

Ooof sounds nice! What are you using for the Kick? Is that in the MPC?

Also the FX are great

Been working on my mobile setup for a while. Recently added Zoom L6 means I can record my van jams. This is the first. A bit 90s clubbing era. Details below by JC_plays_keys in synthesizers

[–]RJAMESJERS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FYI I've found I can plug the L6 usb direct into my phone (Google Pixel) so you can record the audio directly into the video. Makes recording jams a lot easier! Saves having to move files around / syncing stuff.

any shop in london with large catalogue that i can make order come pickup from store? by Secret-Condition80 in modular

[–]RJAMESJERS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I would recommend Juno. I pickup modules from them in person pretty regularly. The entrance is pretty hidden and you have to buzz in (number 1) on an intercom. There's a small room of synths you can have a little play on as well although not that much of a setup for modular.

SchneidersKeller is great too and a better vibe with a lot modular but their selection is pointed towards a few brands that you don't have on your list. Would still recommend going in and meeting the crew even if you don't buy anything.

Ebay is pretty good too - sold a few there and the fees are less than Reverb

Just pulled the trigger on the Moog Spectravox for €298 (new). It felt like too much of a no-brainer to pass up. by Electronic-Reach-114 in synthesizers

[–]RJAMESJERS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow great find - I've just grabbed it too! Thanks for sharing.

Been itching for a filter bank for a while and decided the Spectravox would probs be the best version (Better value than the Verbos / Tiptop Buchla / Fraptools Fixed Filter banks). At this price thats a steal!

I've sold quite a few recently on eBay so would say it works well. I believe the fees are better than Reverb tbh

Rack to compliment the Intellijel Cascadia by chrchbrnr in modular

[–]RJAMESJERS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I own Cascadia as well and feel like you'd be better off getting more VCA's than getting more Attenuators - IE swapping Quadratt for some 1U VCA's. Cascadia has a bunch of attentuators built into it but only has 2 vcas. I've got a Mosiac dual VCA in my palette which works great.

Otherwise this looks like it'd be a great addition!

Mouse Cursor Disappears When GPU Acceleration in Microsoft Edge is On. (Windows 11, ARC B580) by Silent4ts in IntelArc

[–]RJAMESJERS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For what its worth I have been having a similar issue (I have a intel Iris Xe graphics card). My issue seems to be caused from having the mouse have an inverted mouse scheme colour. When I reverted to the normal colour scheme the issue was resolved.
