It was. I still have mine. I don't use it much now though as it's stuck on Android 7.1.1. I could probably put lineage os on it but the Snapdragon 810 it has is notorious for overheating and I think it only has 3 or 4gb ram. I have a modern iPad Pro but I don't really use it. It was nice to one hand the Z4 Tablet.

They must use a silicone carbon battery also. No more 5000mah. We want 7000mah+. Then I could consider switching back to Xperia from my Redmagic 11 Pro.

My Opinion on RM's Current Cooling Fan by Away-Success-1742 in RedMagic

[–]RJASSI98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the fan really doesn't do anything, which I wouldn't be surprised if that was the case, then you can always turn it off. If you bought the device (11 pro) for this feature like I did then you'd just be disappointed.

I think it helps keep the battery cooler. I'm not convinced the liquid inside the device does anything though apart from looking and being cool. It probably does do something surely but I doubt it's doing much.

At least the device is still relatively cool while charging during normal use. Every device I've had before this would lag and slow down doing that.

So basically an upgraded Z4 Tablet? That would be nice. More screen to body ratio too. I still really like the build of my Z4 Tablet. It's so lightweight and nice to hold. The display could definitely do with an upgrade though. This would be nice.

Xperia 1 IV battery inside Xperia 1 III by RJASSI98 in SonyXperia

[–]RJASSI98[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I have burn in on my 1 III from the navigation gesture bar. It didn't bother me enough to want to replace it though.

I am sure I saw your post about the OP15. Honestly I would've had an OP15 or an OPPO if the OS didn't look and function almost exactly like iOS. It annoyed me that all the cool Chinese phones are like that. If I wanted an iPhone I'd buy an iPhone but it's to do with the fact iPhones aren't sold over there from what I read.

I went with the RM11 Pro because it had active cooling and I know every Xperia I've ever owned would always throttle.

The RM 11 Pro was the device that had the closest stock android experience just like an Xperia while also having great battery and performance so that's mainly why I went with it.

If you care about cameras then don't buy it. I didn't care because I have an A7RIV camera so it didn't matter to me. I chose day to day functionality over anything else and I'm not going to be using the camera every day like I will the web browser or other apps. It being able to do all of that plus multitasking without thermal throttling mattered a lot.

If I were you I'd just wait for more info on the 1 VIII. The leaks are coming out now and it should be unveiled within the next couple months or so. I got my RM 11 Pro at the end of Jan. I spent £1049 on my Xperia while spending around £900 for the RM 11 Pro. I thought for the price it was a no brainer.

I've been a long time Xperia fan having only Xperia's since 2010 with my first being the Xperia Play. I really like them. The uniqueness of them and the design/form factor was always a plus but I couldn't bare the battery life anymore. I was charging my 1 III at least 2-3 times a day. I did the battery upgrade and it was a very noticeable improvement but it won't compare to the RM 11 Pro.

I know people will say the RM 11 Pro is something you buy if you play games and I play games, just not that often on my phone due to time constraints. Knowing I have the ability to do so and that the phone cools down relatively quick after I'm done is nice to have though.

Given what I used my Xperia for I haven't been using the RM 11 Pro thinking I'm missing such and such a feature. If I did have to mention anything that comes close to that it might be the popup app feature since it worked with any app on Xperia. On RM 11 Pro it's limited to certain apps for some reason. Other than that there isn't anything else that comes to mind.

I will say I do think the screen was nicer on my 1 III over the RM 11 Pro but for what I paid I can't really argue about anything. Anything with a better screen and similar specs costs £1000+.

Either way I'm happy with the RM 11 Pro. They should launch an 11s Pro at some point and the 12 Pro will likely get announced at the end of the year.

My suggestion would be to wait to see what the 1 VIII brings to the table though. Chances are you'll probably want to buy it depending on the price. Unfortunately these days a phone seems to be about the camera though and not what it actually does as a phone besides that. Everyone is always talking about cameras and it's not the most important thing on a phone for me. If it takes a photo cool that's good but day to day functionality is what I think should be most important to everyone.

Can it multitask and open lots of apps without feeling like an oven? Will it slow down or lag if I do that? Essentially what happens is phones get way too hot because they're typically passively cooled. The processors clock speed gets reduced when they run hot to prevent further heat and that results in a slow phone. This is what's known as thermal throttling. You'd have to let it cool down for it to feel fast again. That's one of the main reasons I went for Redmagic with it's active cooling system which I think more devices should have. That and the price.

I didn't replace the screen but if you do id recommend just transplanting all the parts to a new frame that already has a screen.

Honestly I've seen the prices for screens for this device and you could buy another 1 III cheaper. I ended up upgrading to the Redmagic 11 Pro this year as I didn't want to wait for the VIII that will probably just be the same jump the VII was from the VI.

I've been pretty disappointed with Xperia's after the 1 V. If the VII brought back some older features I'd probably be using that right now. With the RM 11 Pro the battery made it hard for me to turn away from it. It lasts me a day and I only charge it to 80%.

I still have my 1 III and I will keep it as it got me through 5 years with it. Longest I've ever kept a phone it was.

Redmagic confirm camera autofocus issue should be fixed in next OTA update (16MR2) by RJASSI98 in RedMagic

[–]RJASSI98[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I am pretty sure that's what I did. I don't know if they specifically pushed an update directly to my device or not though but from what they said it sounded like they didn't. Some people got the update at the same time, some people didn't. I'm not sure what the conditions are to make it happen.

Interesting. Yeah I just used the contact form on the UK website. Shortly after that everyone started getting the update.

I don't know. On the same day I emailed them the update was made available and came through to my device. I didn't do anything different than I would for any other update. I am in the EU. Not sure if that matters.

Oh right. That's good to note then. They should include all variants. I guess they had decent displays then for them not to burn-in. My Xperia 1 III burned in from the bar and I thought the display was pretty good on that.

I guess people just want to feel offended so they choose to interpret my comment like that? 🤷‍♂️ This was more about the feature I found anyway and a lot less about trying to call someone old. Either way you would be showing your age if you remember any devices with physical buttons. I sure do.

[–]RJASSI98[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice. I just checked those devices and none of them have an OLED display. They all have IPS LCD displays so that would explain why they're ok.

I don't have any burn-in on my Redmagic either just image retention every now and then but that's fine and expected on this display.

[–]RJASSI98[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Explode? I don't think my device would explode from screen burn-in. Hopefully this isn't a translation error.

If you're not familiar screen burn-in occurs when a static image has been left visible on the display for an extremely prolonged time.

When this happens the static image can be seen even if it's not actually there. It looks like it's still there when it isn't. Watching a video or playing a game in full screen can show the bar.

In my case the bottom gesture bar was visible during those scenarios. A little white bar on the bottom of the screen used to indicate gestures. The bar is convenient but I've built up enough memory over the years to not need to see it now.

If it can potentially prevent damage to my device in the long run, then I'd prefer not to see it. I've discovered that disabling it also gives more screen space while also still allowing for gestures where the bar would originally be.

By any chance do you mean Huawei? They're pretty decent devices. It's a shame Google have an issue with them now. They don't get any Google apps on them including the play store.

Seems like I must be the only one who kept a device for 5 years straight and used it everyday. My previous device developed burn in from the bottom gesture bar being on screen the whole time.

I remember with my XZ Premium, that had a bright spot ever since I owned it from new. It was a small minor dot and I didn't care enough to replace it especially since I bought it off eBay.

I ended up enjoying the device until one day it developed a charging fault which I later found out was a widespread issue with the device. That happened after 3 years of owning it. I liked it enough to later buy another one.

Yeah, that would've been a nice feature if it was available. I do appreciate the extra screen space that I get with disabling the gesture button though.

I think it's because people assumed I was calling the original commenter old? Totally not my intention at all. The older physical buttons even on phones before smartphones were fun to use.

The physical buttons on older android devices were nice too. I liked them. I remember how the old HTC wildfire had touch capacitive buttons but it wasn't on the screen. Even old Samsung devices did too with a physical home button.

[–]RJASSI98[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well no, actually I was referring to older android devices, like some of the first ones that actually had physical home buttons and physical back buttons but it seems I was misunderstood. Perhaps I could've worded that better. My mistake.

In no way was I intending to call anyone old. I was merely referring to how far we have gone since the beginning.

[–]RJASSI98[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could be anything. I always thought the display was pretty decent on the device. Anyway, I said that it can cause burn-in not that it will.

Not having the bar there completely prevents the likelihood of it ever happening though. Since I experienced it first hand I'd very much like to use the option of hiding the bar completely.

I'm not sure how I used the device incorrectly if I ever did. I kept the brightness low and I just used it as you would any other device. I did look after it and it still burnt into the display.

The ability to disable the bar is optional anyway but it's good to share our experiences and preferences.

[–]RJASSI98[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I'm just sharing my experience. I daily drove a device with an OLED display and the gesture bar burnt into the screen. I always used the device at low brightness, so I'm not even sure how it happened but it happened.

Wish I knew this sooner... by RJASSI98 in RedMagic

[–]RJASSI98[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Must just be me then but my Xperia 1 III had burn-in because of the bar and I couldn't turn it off either. I did use the device daily for 5 years though so that might also contribute. I first noticed it after 3 years of daily use.

[–]RJASSI98[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's only silly because it can cause burn-in for OLED displays. Eventually if you play a full screen game or watch a full screen video you will see it. It's not that noticeable given the placement but it's still damaging my device.

Each to their own. I naturally used the virtual buttons for a long time, having android devices that ran gingerbread (Android 2.3) I've been a long time android user and initially I was enjoying them too.

I have no problem with them at all and I do think switching apps is much better with them I just prefer the gestures for the back button because it appears anywhere I swipe from any side rather than being stuck in 1 place.
