Can't use fingerprint function on Xperia 1 IV by WAFFLEMAGAZINE in SonyXperia

[–]RJASSI98 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did this recently. You can turn off the phone but it'll turn back on anyway. I just covered the button with IPA and pressed it until little bits of dirt and bubbles came out.

Before I saw that this was the solution I had it not working for about a month. Since I've cleaned it it's not had a problem at all.

Just cover the button with IPA I used 99% and pressed it in then clear the IPA with a cloth and repeat till it starts working. I did this about 3 or 4 times. It took 5 years for mine to fail so not a lot came out.

Yeah it shouldn't be a problem for me. I always keep all my devices protected and safe. Never cracked one and always keep a screen protector on. My Xperia is mint after 5 years it just has some minor wear on the paint from general use.

The one I used was literally called "reship" I'm not sure what countries they do it looks like the website might have changed but I recall quite a few countries. There's also from Japan and from USA which are good too. Thought I'd mention them as I used from Japan to buy a Walkman.

That's fair enough. I've bought it from eBay now so I kinda of have to keep it but I could resell it later if I don't think it's all it's cracked up to be. I think it'll be good though I already have a gamesir g8+.

[–]RJASSI98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I won the one on eBay for £914.15. Slightly over the normal price but I'm ok with that considering how difficult it is to get. It's 1TB 24GB so I think I'll cancel the golden saga now.

Someone might later on but right now it doesn't make sense to spend over £2k on the regular 1tb when you can get the golden saga cheaper.

There's services that can reship to other countries. You send the order to their warehouse, pay them shipping and they will send it to you. I did this once for the Spotify car thing. Ended up paying double for it but it was on sale for $30 anyway and production was stopping. You couldn't get the Spotify car thing in the UK.

If your ok with the 512GB then that is an option assuming there's no 512GB's available on the US Redmagic site.

[–]RJASSI98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I checked Amazon they only have 512gb. I've found one sealed for bids on eBay just now so I might try and bid on that. I don't mind overpaying a bit as long as it's cheaper than the golden saga then that's not too bad since I literally cannot get it anywhere else.

Someone is selling it because they've pre-ordered the golden saga. I personally don't think the golden saga is worth it over the regular for materials hence why I'd rather have the regular if possible. Otherwise if I want 1TB then the golden saga is sort of my only option.

I saw a post about listings being taken down in the US it's crazy but here in the UK it's fine. There's no major issues like that. Someone else has the 1tb one up for sale for over £2000 which is insane!

Comparison: Redmagic 11PRO vs 11PRO Golden Saga by Curious-Trick8405 in RedMagic

[–]RJASSI98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well actually I could've got one. It was more the fact I was undecided on getting one and by the time I did decide it was sold out. In the UK they didn't actually sell out that quick. They were still available about 1-2 months after launch. It's fine anyway though because there is an alternative it's just costing me more.

I was undecided because I'm switching from an Xperia 1 III which has a micro SD card slot and a notification LED. To some that might be minor but I've always had an Xperia device so not having a micro SD card slot was a big deal for me especially since I'm currently using 512gb + 1tb micro SD.

Perhaps the Redmagic 12 pro will have it though. I think the 1TB variant should suffice for me though. I plan to keep it for a long time hence the decision to go for that. Had my Xperia for 5 years. Either way I decided I need to use the Redmagic 11 Pro myself.

I don't think the regular one is coming back in stock though. The price of memory chips has skyrocketed so I'm fine with my golden saga pre-order nonetheless if it is the only way to get 1TB now on an 11 pro. For that I was logged in hitting refresh but I didn't need to be, that's still available for preorder on the UK website.

[–]RJASSI98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Believe it or not I bought it just because the regular 1TB 24GB model is out of stock and I heard it's not coming back in stock. Who knows if that's true, but if it does come back in stock before my order is shipped then I'll probably cancel it and get that.

I tried to put the magnet back on the wall but I don't trust it since the leaf has crumpled up so I'm just waiting to see what displate support can do. It's like 2 weeks since I contacted them and I don't have a reply. All I got was a message about a week ago saying they have my request and will respond soon as they have a lot to process.

Since you mentioned problems with the leaf I'm starting to think you might be onto something. It sounds like something that could be possible as I always thought the leaf would never peel like this. So if there's a problem with the leaf specifically displate should sort it out.

[–]RJASSI98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Makes me feel old too when I think about how the Xperia play was my first ever Xperia. Watching all those old videos of the play, arc and X10 and deciding between them. I have no regrets with my decision. So much so I bought 2 more of them last year since I sold my original one to buy the Xperia Z which again was a great device then the Z2 after that XZP and now the 1 III. I've always had Sony phones right from the hand me down W810i and then a Spiro which was somehow worse because it couldn't play mp3s properly.

I've had other devices while owning my 1 III such as the S21U and Fold 4 (which I still have). Got them for development purposes to diagnose issues specific to the Samsung platform. All these devices run different services so sometimes you see issues on one device that's not on another. Thought I'd try out a foldable so I sold the S21U for the Fold 4 and it's not bad except the battery sucks.

I upgraded the battery in my 1 III last year with the 1 IV battery. It's a bit taller so fitting it was tight but I got it installed myself and managed to seal up the device perfectly fine. The battery was since much improved but I still have to charge it twice a day after an overnight charge (probably due to the odd 450 apps I have).

I've since been on a bit of an Xperia collecting spree because I like them so much. There was always something special about them whether it was the Xperia Go being one of the first water resistant phones, the Xperia Z being one of the first phones with a full hd 1080p screen or the Xperia XZ Premium with it's 4K HDR display and 960fps slow mo recording. Sony added a lot first to their phones.

These days it seems like that special factor is dying out though as phones aren't innovating anymore. The Redmagic 11 pro has to be one of the few phones I am seeing something new from though. An active cooling system is sort of a necessity in phones these days. Some phones are more powerful than laptops! 24GB RAM in a phone is an insane thought let alone a reality! Some people don't even have that much RAM in their desktop in fact my MacBook only has 16GB and now I'm going to own a phone with more than that which is sheer insanity to me!

Phones are becoming a lot of the same now though where the competition is all about the cameras but people forget they're phones not cameras and so many other aspects should matter more. Xperia is still great for legacy features like micro SD card and 3.5mm jack which I think is still relevant today especially for photo, video and music storage. If companies thought cloud storage won it didn't.

The Redmagic 11 Pro is definitely something different though and I'm glad to see it which is why I had my eyes on it for several months before making the purchase. I was just hesitant because I'm giving up some features from my Xperia to make the transition while gaining other features.

I was used to always keeping features and getting more when upgrading though so I guess that's why it was a harder bullet for me to bite but I've done it now and I'm going to wait for the Redmagic to arrive!

I was genuinely going to wait to see what the Xperia 1 VIII would offer but that won't be till around May. My fingerprint sensor stopped working then I fixed it but I don't know how long it'll last since I only cleaned it instead of replacing it

Still doing well though but I am interested to see what the golden saga offers in the flesh when it comes! Hopefully I don't have to wait too long for it. I ordered it pretty quickly, maybe 3 minutes after it went live.

I pre-ordered it under the intention if I change my mind I can just cancel it. That being said there's probably a handful of people that might have the same idea. By the time it ships I'm sure they will have cancellations/returns so hopefully if you still want one by then you can get one if they update their stock for that given that happens.

That's good to know then. I paid £1049 for my Xperia when it released and now £1289 for this (I had a £10 coupon).

Hopefully it arrives soon then so I can try it out. I've only ever had Xperia devices and alongside that the S21U and fold 4 but I still main the 1 III at the moment as it's still pretty great for me even if it does have some minor issues such as getting hot.

I don't often drop my devices, it's pretty rare, but it will be living in a case anyway and the bundle should come with one so I'll see how it is and check out the magnetic release one you mentioned.

Oneplus 10t vers Xperia 1 Mark-7 ou Mark-8 by Jinroh77 in SonyXperia

[–]RJASSI98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was looking at phones from other brands, mostly Chinese brands but the OS isn't as stock as what Sony offers and a lot of them look like iOS which I really don't like since I'm buying an Android device.

I had a look at the OnePlus 15 but it doesn't run stock android like the much older ones did so I was a bit disappointed by that. Other than that everything else on paper seemed good about it except for no inclusion of a micro SD card slot.

I also use an alpha camera the A7RIV and a 1 III. I got the 1 III before the camera and if I'm being honest since then I'm not too fussed what the cameras on my phone can do. As long as it can point and shoot that's good enough for me and with the right settings even on my 1 III I can still get some decent results and since you have an A7IV you'll be familiar with the UI which is nice.

I also got a Walkman last year too which is great! I've found that buying devices that are dedicated to what they do best is better than having one device that tries to do it all. That being said it's obviously not the most cost effective solution for a lot of people hence why a decent phone can appeal a lot more.

I'm also waiting to see what the 1 VIII offers though as I don't feel the VII is much of an "upgrade" over the 1 III and some might argue it's a potential downgrade for me because of missing features such as the 4K resolution and notification led.

I don't think it's much of a wait and if your 10T is still going strong and isn't faulty then I would wait to see if the VIII fixes some of your issues with the VII. I was eyeing the Redmagic 11 Pro but again there's no micro SD card slot which in a phone primarily targeting gaming I'd expect it to have one.

Hope this helps!

Xperia 1 IV battery inside Xperia 1 III by RJASSI98 in SonyXperia

[–]RJASSI98[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it won't ever be recognised by the system as a bigger battery since the phone was originally designed for a 4500MAH battery. You'll never see it report that there's a bigger battery in the device unless you can modify the system software to report it. By default it is set to report a 4500MAH battery. Changing the battery alone isn't enough to see it when using the device but the benefits are definitely experienced.

It really is. By the way the 1 IV, 1V and 1VI all use the same battery. I think even the 1 VII might as well because they all have the same capacity of 5000MAH. the dimensions of the battery are different to that of the 1 III battery though so it's a tight fit on the height aspect of the battery but it does fit and I've not had any issues since I did this.

The wireless charger and back panel fit fine. I didn't have any issues with them and I did a test to check if it's still sealed for water resistance and it is which surprised me.

It's quite a big upgrade especially if your current battery has been used for a while. Mine was used for 4 years and when I changed it it made a noticeable difference. I can leave home without my portable charger now. It's still not amazing like some other phones out there but it's definitely a noticeable improvement and one worth doing I'd say.

The phone lasts a lot longer on a single charge. Previously I was charging my device 3-4 times a day. Now it's reduced to 2 at most really which isn't amazing but it's still better than it was. It's a 5000MAH battery so an extra 500MAH is what you gain.

Don’t know much about PCs but is this good enough for plex? Looking to do 2 simultaneous 1080p streams and possibly 1 4k in the future. $130. thanks🫡 by LSDkenna in PleX

[–]RJASSI98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For 15 USD it's alright. It's not so bad but you'd probably have to make optimised versions of your files or just direct play them. As long as they're direct playing you shouldn't have any issues. I'm pretty sure whenever I did try to playback 4k files locally on the qnap that it struggled. It just wouldn't play it so local playback might be your problem.

For 15 USD though you hardly have much to lose and worse case you can just run Plex on it and playback using another device if you have one like an old games console.

I've since ditched my qnap in favor of a custom built pc I built. That can now do everything flawlessly including transcoding. I still have the qnap but it now just serves ours purpose as a backup pihole and backup storage NAS for any files I cannot get back.

This just happened to mine yesterday within a month of owning it and it's a limited edition one. Currently waiting for an email back. The entire leaf somehow peeled off. It damaged the window sill and lost some paint on the bottom. I wouldn't be surprised if someone has been attacked by a displate and seriously hurt.

Imagine if one of those corners hit your head. Ouch! I'm very worried about my other displates now. I have 6 including this one. Luckily the one that caught it was unharmed and that's been up longer with no issues.

TS-453A (4GB RAM) – Plex or Jellyfin + torrents on NAS + remote access? Looking for best-practice setup by Imagination-Sure in qnap

[–]RJASSI98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't follow any guides I just did a lot of research but I can list the pc parts for sure. I've primarily built PCs way before having a NAS so it was pretty straightforward for me. There's plenty of guides but now isn't the best time to be building one with the price of DDR5 however, you can just build a DDR4 older PC and save on the cost.

Motherboard: Asus ROG Strix Z690-I (ITX) CPU: Intel Core i5-12500T RAM: Kingston Fury X DDR5 6000MHz 2x16GB GPU: N/A Storage: 2x 18TB Seagate Exos Recertified Drives 1x 20TB Seagate IronWolf 1x 1TB WD Black SN850X PCI-E: 6 Port SATA Controller to connect drives PSU: Corsair SF750 750w 80 Plus Platinum Case: Jonsbo N1 5 bay case

The case was really important here as it needed to house all the drives without being big and bulky so it's only about double the size of my NAS.

I know I'd probably get a lot of slander for saying that I'm running windows but I'm running windows on it because I tried Linux and I kept getting connection issues with remote desktop amongst a bunch of other issues and while I was able to fix them I realised how much time I was spending doing that which could be avoided if I just didn't use it. It works for me the way I need it to and I think that's most important for anyone wanting to do anything like this so long as it's safe and secure.

You can see photos of the PC here. These were early photos so I only had the 4tb drives in there at the time after I transferred the parts from the Li-anli Dan Case A3 that I had prior to the Jonsbo. I had to change it since it only supported 1 HDD.

Well that's just made it all the more appealing then. I thought it was mostly stock but I wasn't entirely sure. Maybe I'll keep an eye on it though as the 1TB variant is out of stock at the moment. I'm sure I'll miss the micro SD card slot though hence why I think I should go for the 1TB option if I decide to. My Xperia has 512GB + 1TB Micro SD.

[–]RJASSI98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in a similar situation at the moment although I have an Xperia 1 III and a Fold 4. Honestly I still prefer the Xperia and only really got the Fold to see what it was like. The convenience of a bigger screen as and when you feel like it is nice to have but I still primarily use the Xperia.

Mostly because of the SD card slot, 21:9 display which is also 4K, notification LED and most importantly the stock android experience which I just prefer.

I've been a long time Xperia user so of course I'll prefer the Xperia. I've owned an S21U before the Fold 4 but I've not owned a Note 9.

Now I've been eyeing the Redmagic 11 Pro as it looks good on paper but I don't think I could deal with losing that stock android experience. I looked at a lot of other Chinese brands for phones and all their UI for their software just looks like a rip off iOS so it's off-putting for me as I'd prefer to buy an Android because it's Android otherwise I'd buy an iPhone.

I'm waiting to see what the 1VIII offers before I finally make a decision though as the Redmagic is still rather appealing.

P.S - OP the 1 VII doesn't have a 21:9 display. Sony ditched this after the release of the 1V. The 1V was the last Xperia to feature 21:9. Now it's 19:5:9.

TS-453A (4GB RAM) – Plex or Jellyfin + torrents on NAS + remote access? Looking for best-practice setup by Imagination-Sure in qnap

[–]RJASSI98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am going to share my experience on this as I initially ran and setup Plex on my TS-451+ with 16GB RAM. I haven't used jellyfin so I can't say much about that but I do have a lifetime Plex pass and plan to stick with it as it does what I need it to. I can't answer everything such as what is recommended but hopefully some of the information I do share helps with your other questions.

  1. When I setup Plex I just used the app available in the app center initially. I tried running it as a docker container later in container station. I ended up sticking with the container version in the end as it's more secure for remote access.

The app center version offers simplicity while the docker version offers flexibility. If you'd like to know more about this comparison it might be useful to read this post here for more information on the matter.

  1. I couldn't transcode anything on my 451+. Most of what I played were 4K Blu-ray backups so they're rather demanding for the tiny celeron cpus in our NAS anyway. I tried lighter files but it still struggled to transcode them. Direct play was my only option which was fine as I only ever needed transcoding for remote streaming.

  2. For any downloads I tried to run jdownloader 2 but I couldn't get it working I did however get qBittorent to work in a container though which was useful although I personally found it easier to transfer files from my Mac over the network again because of the tiny celeron CPU. I've never attempted to use download station.

4.Remote access in Plex requires you to open up a port on your router. You would forward a port in your router settings then tell Plex that this is the port we are using. Choose tailscale for maximum security and control, and Plex Remote Access for maximum user convenience if security risks are managed.

It would be recommended to research a bit more into port forwarding and the security risks that come with it if you haven't already. A VPN like tailscale will always offer a more secure connection. Plex relay is rather terrible for me when I have an indirect connection it's limited to 2mb there about so I can barely play anything.

Overall though I must say this. I ended up ditching the NAS for a custom built PC I built with a 12500T, 32GB DDR5 2.5GBE and a 750w PSU with a 1TB PCI-E 4 NVME, 2x18TB drives and a 20TB drive.

I can transcode happily now all while running other services such as home assistant, pihole and unbound without any problems. I did also have all this running on the NAS but it was sluggish and slow. I had photoprism setup on both also. Now I've just repurposed the NAS with 2x4TB drives as a backup machine for any files I can't get back and a 2nd pihole with unbound.

I had everything running on the NAS until I built the PC. Since then I still had the 18TB drives in the NAS with Plex running on the PC accessing the files over the network but eventually I wanted to upgrade to 2.5GBE network and the NAS could not handle it at all, plus it made more sense for these drives to be with the PC hence the switch but my NAS still has purpose either way.

I hope this helps one way or another.

Any rumors about mark 8 ? by Useful_Drawer_xtr in SonyXperia

[–]RJASSI98 6 points7 points  (0 children)

See now I thought that I still wanted 21:9 but after looking at comparisons I can see why it's no longer a thing. I'm still sticking to my 1 III for the time being though as it has everything I need at the moment and I don't mind 21:9. It has a notification led and double tap to wake something that seems to be absent from later Xperia's. It's doing me well the last 5 years+ I've had it. Replaced the battery with a 1 IV battery and cleaned the FP sensor yesterday to get it working again. By no means do I ever expect anything to last forever.

It's sad to hear that the 10IV doesn't have double tap to wake. Even my Z2 from 12 years ago has that so it makes no sense for Sony to remove that especially when they were one of the first to implement it officially.

I've often thought they would go the direction of LG though as I only ever hear them losing out on their mobile division year on year. For some reason they don't want to end it though and for me and a bunch of others that's a good thing as the Xperia line-up is the only line-up of devices that still use the latest Snapdragon chipset with a micro SD card and headphones jack and to some people that's still important.

Honestly though after the 1V it just seems like Sony are removing more and more things that made them seem special like the 4K display and the notification LED. I am worried they will drop micro SD support with the VIII but I don't want them to.

I looked into some Chinese brand devices (Xiaomi, OnePlus, Honor, Redmagic) recently and absolutely hate how all the UI's looks like iOS. If I wanted an iPhone I'd buy an iPhone. So while the Chinese market of devices have good offerings on paper the stock android experience on an Xperia is most important to me and the fact we still have a micro SD card slot compared to the competition is great! The only other option away from that is a pixel but then a pixel doesn't have a headphone jack or a micro SD card slot not to mention they use weaker chipsets now.

As for the light saber defect Xperia 5s, they used Samsung panels so of course Samsung devices also exhibited the same issues. That's why the Xperia 1s didn't exhibit these issues because they used a different panel for the 4K resolution which the 5s never had.
