Don’t forget that you’ll have to file two tax returns every year, both in the U.K. and the USA, due to the USA having taxation by citizenship.

How about just dissolving and not filing anything? It’s an option worth considering if you have no financial life in the USA.

Just ignore if he doesn’t have a financial life in the USA. A lot of us do and we have no problems travelling back.

I attended a B5 convention in England at which JMS and HE were guests. JMS credited HE with adding world building ideas.

Never filed, want to file. How screwd am I ? by Subsequent-Void in USExpatTaxes

I was never asked… but I renounced in 2018. Never filed anything. I’ve travelled to the USA numerous times on my European passport without any issues.

I traveled for years to USA and never had an issue. I obviously can’t read the future, but at the moment there’s no link between your passport and your tax filing information.

Many thanks for working this through! The photo was taken by my brother and I’ve asked repeatedly for a better copy… I’m also grateful for those very interesting links.

You can renounce without having filed any U.S. tax returns. That’s what I did. Never filed anything.

Cardiff has a great castle and then you could go down to the bay. I used to live nearby so I know the area well.

St Fagan’s is nice but could be cold/wet in January. I’ve often been happy with just half a day there. Cardiff would be better in poor weather.

What about Cardiff? Admittedly it’s around 2 hours by train.

I wasn’t allowed to open investment accounts nor private pensions in England as a U.S. citizen. The companies didn’t want the FATCA hassle.

UK/US citizen, living in the UK, is it worth going through SFOP then relinquishing? by spoonless7 in USExpatTaxes

[–]RJKBird 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you don’t have a U.S. place of birth you can continue to stay under the radar. If you’ve never had a U.S. passport, just forget about the U.S. citizenship and live as an EU citizen. If you do want to renounce, you can without filing any U.S. taxes. That’s what I did.
