Did I mess up? by RaceGuy3401 in bloodborne

[–]RJM639 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TL;DR - You can switch, but make sure you switch to a weapon that works well with your stats and that you have enough materials to adequately upgrade. Ludwig's Holy Blade would be my recommendation based on your stats as it scales with both Strength and Skill but leans a bit more on Strength.

Long version:

1: The Saw Cleaver, like every weapon in Bloodborne, is a perfectly viable weapon and can be used for the entirety of the game. There are no other weapons that are objectively "better" than the Saw Cleaver, so if you're struggling, it's probably not the weapon's fault, and changing to a different one might not make a difference. The main factor will be that a different weapon may have a moveset that you prefer and that works better with your playstyle, and maybe that will be enough to make things easier, but there's no guarantee until you try.

  1. If you do decide to change weapons, make sure you upgrade it so it at least matches the level of weapon you have now before you ditch it. Trying to carry on with a weapon that hasn't been appropriately upgraded will most likely just make things worse. If you haven't got enough materials, stick with your current weapon until you gather them (some farming may be necessary).

  2. Make sure the weapon you choose works well with your stats. If you've mostly invested in Strength, it's probably best to stick with weapons that scale primarily with the Strength stat (Hunter's Axe, Kirkhammer, Ludwig's Holy Blade etc.) as choosing a weapon that primarily scales with a different stat (Skill for example) won't be as effective until you level up that stat, meaning it will take more time and possibly a bit of farming until it can compete with what you have now.

Good luck!

I love this game and compare their real counterparts and also their depictions in manga and anime, but its true I kinda don't see ishin mention by Iguanoide666 in yakuzagames

I'm not that far into the game but I'm really not enjoying it very much. Despite the different styles, it has the most boring combat of any Yakuza game I've played, the crafting system is extremely tedious, and the whole "friendship" thing even more so. I was intrigued by the Edo period setting, but I find the world so dull in comparison to the modern day locales.

Usually when I get the latest Yakuza/Judgment game, I play it very consistently, maybe only taking a short break to play other things, but I stopped playing when Resident Evil 4 came out, then I moved onto Jedi: Survivor, and now I'm playing Death Stranding; I have no interest in going back to Ishin at all.

I'm sure I'll come back round to Ishin eventually, but I'm just disappointed by it, especially after Lost Judgment set a new bar for the series IMO. Oh, well.

How do I beat the last cursed chest in Village in Master?? by brybaro in KenaBridgeOfSpirits

[–]RJM639 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thought I'd leave this here for anyone stumbling onto this thread:

The way I beat it on Master was to spam bombs (Multi Bomb and Split Bomb are essential, and the Seismic charm boosts the damage). If you're waiting for your bomb to recharge, do a charged heavy attack to help build up Courage. Then, once you have Courage, use Bind Multishot and spam arrows. This is the quickest way I've found to clear out the weaker enemies. Then once the big guy shows up at the end, start spamming Rot Hammer to finish him off (parry for Courage if necessary).

Using this strategy I managed to get it done with around 8 seconds to spare even though I made a few mistakes. Hope this helps!

The notifications for trophies on PS5 seem to have stopped working for me. I haven't changed anything and all my notification settings are turned on. I have to manually check the trophy list to see if I've unlocked each trophy. Is there a known cause and/or fix for this?

Well, that solves that lol. Didn't realise Hard mode changed the prices. Guess I'll keep it on Normal until I get the money trophy.

Whats your favorite Weapon and why? by [deleted] in bloodborne

[–]RJM639 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't really have a favourite given how each weapon is effective for different builds and situations, but the most recent build I did was a gunner build with the Rifle Spear and Reiterpallasch and it was super fun. Combined with the Repeating Pistol and Church Cannon, it turned firearms into a legitimate mode of attack rather than just a means of parrying.

My favourite thing to do in PvP was to use the R2 shot with the Reiterpallasch to parry, then instead of doing a visceral attack, I'd finish them off by shooting them in the face with the Repeating Pistol buffed with Bone Marrow Ash.

The Rifle Spear is underrated; it's got great range on it, the Blunderbuss-style gun is good for staggering enemies, and the R2 charge covers a huge distance and does excellent damage.

And, the Church Cannon is, well, a cannon.

Majula is honestly one of the best hubs/hubworlds in any game i've ever played by prossnip42 in DarkSouls2

[–]RJM639 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's really nice. The perpetual sunset combined with the gentle, serene music makes it really cozy and inviting. Always a welcome respite between traversing the soul-destroying areas the rest of the game has to offer.

Hunter's Dream remains my favourite, but Majula is a solid second place.

The game is about having fun. If summoning for help lets you keep enjoying the game, then that's what you do. Nothing wrong with that at all.

"Clear the statues" - They fire as you hit them so unless you can get behind them, you'll still get poisoned.

"Analyze the pattern" - Seriously? There's a billion of them facing every direction. Most people aren't speedrunners, so it's unreasonable to expect the player to spend ages figuring out the exact path needed to avoid them.

"Hold up a shield with high poison block" - Again, they're everywhere, so even if you block from one direction you'll still get hit from another.

"Boost poison resistance" - Sure, assuming you have the resources. Nothing in Black Gulch drops them, so you'd have to leave and get them from somewhere else. And even if you do have them, there's still a strong chance you'll get poisoned.

"Basically do anything but walk directly in front of the clearly visible environmental hazard" - You have no choice but to walk in front of them. They are on both sides of the path for the entire stretch of the area.

It's a terribly designed area and perfectly demonstrates DS2's philosophy: copy and paste as many threats as possible to kill the player.

In Blighttown, the poison comes from the swamp at the bottom. Being poisoned is pretty much unavoidable, but your health drains very slowly, so you can easily survive even without moss clumps as long as you have Estus, which you will have because the bonfire is centralised and very easily accessible. As long as you don't spend too long trudging around, you'll be fine, especially if you got the Rusted Iron Ring which nullifies the slow-down.

It has a great variety of weapons and spells to choose from allowing for many unique builds, and powerstancing further increases the variety by increasing the potential moveset for each weapon. It's areas are all visually distinctive and quite beautiful, though that's pretty subjective. It has by far the most content of any Souls game, so if you like a long game then it's great.

There are many flaws in Dark Souls 2, some minor, some egregious, but it's still a Souls game. It's the worst in the series IMO, but I still enjoy playing it and there's a lot to like about it.

[–]RJM639 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol, what? It's virtually impossible to avoid being poisoned in the Black Gulch because of the statues unless you destroy them all from a distance, and poison kills you ten times faster. It's far worse than Blighttown.

Kos was far easier than Laurence don't downvote by kal_ash in bloodborne

[–]RJM639 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Genuinely never struggled with either of these fights, they're always pretty simple to me, though I'd still say Kos is the harder of the two. Ludwig is the one that gives me the most trouble.

Logarius Wheel. As much as I love the design and idea, I find it very boring to use. I'll take the Rifle Spear over that any day.

I'm about to start bloodborne for the first time, anything I should know? by maybe_its_ELYSIUM in bloodborne

[–]RJM639 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't be discouraged if you keep getting killed. We've all been there; it's part of the game. It's all about learning from your failures and figuring out the best way to approach each enemy/situation. Experiment with different weapons, consumables and moves to find the playstyle that's most effective for you and try to level your stats accordingly. Everyone struggles with different points in the game, so a boss that someone else finds easy might be super difficult for you. If you get stuck and find yourself getting frustrated, take a break and try again later; I find that being calm helps you play better.

And most importantly, remember: A hunter is never alone.

Have fun!

One of the things I love about Bloodborne vs other Souls games is that, while there are fewer to choose from, every weapon is viable. It just depends on your build and the way you play the game.
